  • He dropped the mouse in the freshkill pile and slowly walked over to Dapplenight.
"Mind if I sit here, or have you had enough of me yet?" he asked, half joking, half serious.

  • Dapplenight looked at him, even more surprised than earlier, but just nodded, sitting down on the ground.
    "Feel free," She replied lightly.

  • "Thanks," he said, then sat down and looked at her.
She's so pretty. he thought to himself.

  • Dapplenight glanced at him as she noticed him looking at her, and looked down at her paws, still confused at why so many cats said he was bad-tempered.

  • He was naturally going to say "Because I had to." but that wasn't the full reason. "Because..." he couldn't get it out. He has never been so nice to someone, and sometimes it felt unnatural. He could easily tell her "Because I had to." or "Because I thought I could teach you how to really hunt, but your hopeless." but he actually, unlike everyone else, liked her. "Because you caught my eye." he said, not making eye contact with her.

  • Dapplenight shifted slightly, suddenly feeling even more shy than normal. She hadn't expected him to say that.
"Oh," She said simply, at loss for anything else to say as she glanced at him. he seemed different from the other cats, maybe because he'd been the one to approach her. But there was something else as well.

  • Halfheart stayed quiet, feeling his heart drop. She doesn't feel the same way about me. he cried to himself.
"I better go," he said, beginning to stand up.

  • Dapplenight looked at him, somehow feeling kind of sad that he was going. "Oh... Okay, then," She said quietly, failing to completely hide the hint of disappointment from her voice.

  • He stopped when he heard the slight disappointment in her voice. He desperately wanted to know what she thought of him, but didn't know how to get it out of her.

  • Dapplenight opened her mouth as he stopped, to say something else, but she didn't know what to say. "Maybe... Maybe we could hunting together again some time?" She suggested.

  • "Yeah," he said, looking back at her. "But... I need to know something." he said, "I like you..." he admitted, "But... Do you... Do you like me?"

  • Dapplenight's eyes widened as she took a moment to actually process what he'd said, and she realized that she did, in fact, like him. A lot. "I-I... Yes, I do," She replied quietly, stammering a little.

  • He stood there for a moment, then let out a shakey sigh of relief. And that one she-cat said I'd never get a mate. he thought to himself.
