  • Snake didn't fall asleep, instead he could sense something close by. He twitched his ear in the direction he thought it was, but then only saw a squirrel that had snapped a twig. He sighed, then scented something else in the air. It definitely wasn't a squirrel this time. Snake held his breath, making sure not to make any noise. Soon he heard low growling coming from the bushes. As it crept closer he could see the yellow eyes if an animal. The brown tabby tom stood up but wouldn't move, he couldn't leave his friends. The growling became louder and the huge dog leaped at Snake, jaws open and aimed for his throat. Snake dodged to the side, making the dog hit it's head on the boulder. The huge animal shook it off and aimed for Snake again, snarling and snapping. Snake felt a searing pain in his leg and felt blood flow onto the forest floor. He turned and swiped long, sharp claws at the canines face, making a long scratch that oozed blood. The dog howled in pain and grabbed Snake, throwing him against a tree. The tom was winded slightly but quickly recovered, jumping on the dogs back and digging in his claws.

  • Immediately Snow called to Snake,"Get your furry butt up that tree, now! Tell everyone to get in the eagles nest! It's the safest place. I'll handle the dog." Then she jumped on top of the dog and clawed at its ears.

  • Mess was snapped awake by the snarling of the dog. She hopped up and looked over the edge of the nest just in time to see Snake slam against the tree. The calico's eye's were wide with terror and she yowled, leaping without thinking over to a nearby pine tree, where she started ripping pine cones off the branches and hurling them with all her strength at the dog. She screeched and threw some pine cones in the bushes behind the dog, hoping to make it think there were more cats in the woods. "CLIMB SNAKE!! CLIMB!!!"

  • Alice noticed immediately and tried to climb higher but she could not reach the next branch. She fell out of the tree and onto the dog. She was snatched up by its powerful jaws and was thrown many tree lengths away.

  • Even though Snake had a broken leg, he ignored the pain, leaping on top of the dog and sinking his teeth into it's neck. He knew that he couldn't kill the canine, but he could at least injure it badly. He heard the dog yelp with pain and try to shake him off. The dark brown tabby tom held on tightly, tasting the salty flavour of blood pour into his mouth and trying not to gag. The dog eventually shook him off and ran into the trees, whimpering and shaking blood droplets everywhere. Snake growled and got up, padding over to the others and dragging his broken leg.

  • Snake shook his head. "I'm fine, it's nothing." He insisted, even though it burned and throbbed horribly. You could tell that it was broken by looking at the twisted and limp part of where his paw was.

  • "It's not fine. It's broken. But if you insist." Said Snow. "Anyone else hurt?"

  • Snake growled. "Fine, but I don't know what heals a broken leg?" he looked at Mess. "Do you know? I mean Hoodlum is very good with herbs, wouldn't he have taught you some?" he asked her, licking her cheek gently.

  • Alice faintly heard Snow but she could not move out of the bush she was underneath. She felt pain everywhere and she groaned.

  • "Ahem, I'm a cat who's good with herbs!" She said with a lot of sarcasm. Then Snow pricked her ears and dashed off. Then found Alice on the ground.

  • Mess stared down at Snake's mangled leg and shivered, her eyes wide with fear. Shock held her in place, frozen in the tree nest. Her fur was on end, and her breathing was fast and shallow.

Hoodlum rubbed his paw over his left ear. It was ringing and tingling, and that only happened when Mess was in trouble. He nodded his goodbye to Arcy and pelted to the barn. "Stumpster? Where are you?" He didn't see his brother anywhere.

Stumpster flicked his left ear worriedly, knowing that Hoodlum must be feeling it too. The little fox chirped at the tom. It didn't take Stumpster long to win over the little creature. Its youth made it trusting, and giving it food hadn't hurt either. The big tom twitched his tail to encourage the kit to follow him and started back toward the barn. It followed him nervously, but seemed willing to believe that the tom wouldn't take it some where that wasn't okay.

  • Snake grunted whith effort, but was strong enough to hold himself up and hide most of the pain from his expression.

Arcy raced back to the barn beside Hoodlum, confused, but worried. She sensed something was wrong.

  • "Wait here. I'll be back." Said Snow. She ran to her den and grabbed some chervil and ran back to Alice
