  • Riena pulled away from the tree she was stripping of bark when her teeth began to ache. She stood still for a few moments before swiftly reminding herself to keep moving, before the cold stole her away. Riena moved like a feather, weaving through the shadowed forest like a ghost. She knew this place so well, she could walk around with her eyes closed and know where she was. Dead, worn grass began to change greener, and so Riena knew she was almost to the very edge of the territory, where prey was the easiest to find.

Sophie remained oblivious to Riva, she was still looking at the animal perched on her head.

  • Senneke caught the slightest scent of a squirrel, though faint, trailing away into the fog. She quietly crept through the undergrowth, careful not to crunch any leaves or snap any twigs.

  • Riva trotted out of the church she sniffed the air. Raising her head high and closing her eyes.

Delo followed his sister outside trying not to be noticed.

  • Drabble yawned and stretched, then stood up.

Riena glanced around and waved her tail. The first snow would be soon.

  • Nakia, a calm and alert young vixen, nosed the ground in search of food. Her fur was mottled with variating hues of copper, like the colors of fall leaves. She had a skinny build, especially with the chilly weather and lack of food. Here and there, she would find a few tasty grubs or a wild strawberry to eat, but after fruitlessly turning over leaves and bark from the ground, she lifted her head, hoping to see the shadows of the crows. Their sighting brought her comfort, and Nakia was disappointed that there weren't as many up and about. But she was sure they must be flying far to find their own food.

The vixen made her way back near the church, slinking over quietly over to a few of the other foxes and giving a nod in greeting.

  • Delo looked at Nakia and then quickly returned his glance back to the ground. He padded into the church and sat down watching the entrance.

Riva scented a rabbit and followed it. She came upon it in a small bog and quickly piunced on it she lifted each paw out high so then wouldn't become glued to the muddy ground.

  • Senneke growled when the faded squirrel scent brought her to it, fresh and half eaten. She caught the scent of the trespasser and the fur rose along her spine. She turned around at the snarl of the badger, its small, beady eyes glinting at her.

  • Sophie continued to bounce around the church, forgetting about the potential meal on her head. After she grew (more) hungry from this, she slinked away in search of something edible, that wouldn't leave her shunned. She paused when an all too familiar smell reached her.

  • The badger lunged at Senneke, its jaws snapping at her face. She snarled, backing away just as its jaws closed in on empty air. She slid underneath the badger's stomach, slicing through the soft underbelly and spraying fresh blood on the forest floor. As she got on all four paws again, the badger turned around, grabbing her flank and throwing her sideways into a tree, dazing her.

  • Sophie was just in time to see Senneke fly past her into a tree. She had a mini panic attack, before turning back to the badger. "Go away!" She shouted, despite knowing that the animal didn't understand her, and crouched down defensively.

  • Senneke stumbled as she got up just as the badger charged toward Sophie. She snarled and leapt on top of its back, tearing out clumps of fur as it swung wildly back and forth. She finally let go and landed clumsily back on the ground. Without waiting, the badger swung its claws across her head, knocking her down again. The badger turned away from her and lumbered over to Sophie, its jaws parted.

  • Sophie waited for a moment before charging. She made a graceful leap over the badger then landed carefully behind it. "Senneke! If you are still alive, do something." She called, then took a few steps backwards away from the badger, still keeping an eye on it.

  • Senneke forced herself to her paws again, blood trickling into her eye. She bared her teeth and grabbed hold of the badger's hindleg, her teeth piercing its flesh. The badger yowled and turned its attention back to her, attempting to bite into her neck, but she released its leg just in time to avoid its jaws. Before she made her next attack, it rammed into her soft underbelly with its jaws, pain seething through her. She slashed at its eyes, forcing the badger to release its grip. It stared at her for a moment before turning around and slashing a huge paw at Sophie's head.

  • The world flashed white, painfully bright white. Sophie pulled away as quick as she could, still feeling dazed. Her crown was searing with pain for a few more moments until it ebbed away into a dull ache. She stood up strait, not wanting to show any sign of pain. She bore her teeth at the animal, though she highly doubted that would work to scare it away. Still, Sophie always tried to avoid fights, even after being injured.

  • Senneke pushed herself painfully back up, growling at the badger, who was preparing another blow to Sophie. It turned back to her and tried to ram her, but stumbled and fell to the ground and let out a moan. The badger smelled of fear as it looked from Senneke to Sophie, then at its bad leg before giving in to defeat, grabbing its half eaten prey as swiftly as possible before limping quickly off into the forest to leave their territory.
