  • A pure white apprentice sat alone by the river, his head tilted to the stars. He was going mad, he was almost sure of it. Feeling that he was alone, he began to speak.
"What is it you want me to do? Why do you keep making me lose all that I care about? Co you all want me to end myself?" Peregrinepaw swore he saw one of the stars nod.
"Why? I've lost everything I care about! My mate, my mother, my second mother, the respect the clan let me have, and now my daughter!" There were tears in his eyes.
"Why do you all keep doing this to me?! All I ever wanted was to grow into a warrior, have a mate and give five beautiful kittens to the world, and live a good life.
He continued on, "Why do all of you make me keep suffering?! I can't tell the one I love the horrible thing that will happen to her, I don't have anyone who still believes in me! I can't do this anymore! I can't!" Peregrinepaw was finally having that one thought in the back of his mind being considered.

    Suicide.

  • "Peregrinepaw? What are you doing out so late?" Ryko asked quietly. The apprentice seemed angry, and he held a right to be so. He'd lived a hard life, but it still had a ways to go. He still had his whole life as a warrior ahead of him. "You okay?"

  • "Peregrinpaw!" Had the apprentice gone insane? After his daughter's death, the apprentice had been acting oddly. "Get out!" Ryko's screech echoed across the territory. The maine coon bounded as fast as possible for the river, and plunged into its depths. Paws churning, he attempted to swim for the apprentice.

Water began to fill his mouth, and it wasn't long before he began to feel like he was going to vomit. Urging himself forward, he neared the apprentice. No, I can't lose him.

  • Peregrinepaw let his body rest at the depths of river.,

  • Ryko churned his paws harder against the current. "Peregrinepaw!" Ryko plunged his head underwater, able to see the blurry shape of the white apprentice resting silently. [i]Am I too late?[/i

The reaper began swimming downwards, and within moments, he attempted to grab Peregrinepaw's scruff.

  • Peregrinepaw Peregrinepaw felt his scruff being grabbed, he writhe in his mentor's grip.

  • No, no, no! Ryko clutched the apprentice tighter. Are you trying to kill yourself? That's when it hit the reaper. Peregrinepaw was trying to commit suicide. No! Ryko launched himself from the bottom of the river, hoping the apprentice would fall limp in his grasp. No, he couldn't die. He just couldn't.

  • Good. With Peregrinepaw moving around less, Ryko became more certain that he'd be able to reach the rivers banks. Within moments, his dark head popped up out of the water, and he was able to feel the edge's slippery pebbles under his paws.

The wet reaper hauled himself ashore, taking careful strides to keep from slipping, before placing his apprentice down carefully at the base of a stump. Tired and worn, but no medicine cat, Ryko gave the white apprentice a moment to revive himself while Ryko lapped at his fur.
