Emma walked quickly down the paved sidewalk, tears streaming down her face. She couldn't believe what she had witnessed- her boyfriend with her best friend. She shook her head, sitting down on a bench in front of her house. She crossed her arms, looking at the ground just as thunder rolled in the distance. A storm was on its way, and fast. Rain began to fall, a thin drizzle at first, but it thickened into an all-out downpour. This added to her pain even more. She buried her face in her hands, sobbing.

Ryder walked his hood low over his head as he walked home. His guitar case was still slung over his back and he could hear the plop of the rain hitting it. He noticed a girl sitting on a bench sobbing. He sat down beside her waiting for the bus. He turned to her and took off his windbreaker and laid it over her head gently before singing softly, hoping to cheer the girl up.

Emma lifted her head, make-up smeared under her eyes. She blinked at the boy with her teary blue eyes, sniffling. Her blond hair fell in her face as she said, "Oh, uh, thanks..." She wiped her eyes and gave a small smile. She asked softly, "Who are you?"
-
"I'm Ryder." He said with a warm smile. "Or AKA the owner of the windbreaker and the wicked awesome sexy man voice," he joked wiggling his eyebrows playfully, but blushing a bit as he did so.
-
Emma chuckled, smiling at him. Taking out a tissue from her purse and wiping away her runny make-up she said, "I'm Emma. AKA the girl bawling over stupid reasons." She smiled, moving her hair away from her face. She put out her hand and shook his, blushing softly.
-
He returned the handshake and gave her a dazzling warm smile. "I'm sure you weren't crying over something stupid, because if it really was stupid you wouldn't have been crying." He reassured her gently his blue eyes twinkling.
-
Emma smiled. "I guess... I just witnessed my boyfriend with my best friend... It's complicated..." She crossed her arms, looking down. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't be bothering you with my problem..."
-
"Nah. Helping a crying girl in the rain is what good stories are made of." He joked with her nudging her with a smile.
-
Emma giggled, nudging him back. "So, what's your story Ryder? You must have some reason to be at the bus stop."
-
"I'm heading home. What about you where are you going from here?" He asked
-
Emma said, "Oh, no, I'm not going anywhere. I literally live right behind us." She pointed to the house behind her.
-
"Well...why were you crying in the rain when you could have had the comfort of your bedroom. And destroying everything your ex ever gave you." He said with a smile. "Because only a sucky boyfriend could make a girl cry like that. And he probably didn't deserve you to begin with." He added in explanation with a warm look in his eyes as he met her eyes.
-
Emma shrugged. "I dunno... I guess seeing his pictures would only hurt me more..." She sighed.
-
He nudged her. "So..what did he do to you?" He asked softly the rain still pitter-pattering down on them.
-
Emma scratched her neck. "He cheated on me with my BFF... I saw him kiss her in the parking lot. I knew it was a mistake to take him back!" She slammed a fist onto the bench angrily.
-
"So you broke up before that?" He asked softly a warm look on his face as he listened intently.
-
Emma nodded. "I thought we could still work. Obviously not..." She looked at the ground with a sad sigh.
-
He touched her arm gently. He rubbed her arm soothingly. "I don't know what he was thinking giving up a girl like you. Obviously he is an idiot and doesn't deserve anymore of your tears." He said softly.
-
Emma looked at him, blushing. "R-Really?"
-
"Really," he said softly with a gentle smile and a nod.
