Nightowl nodded both in agreement with Earthpaw and in acknowledgement of Frostleopard, but her eyes were on Ragingfire, confusion in their depths. She understood Ragingfire's anger, but not what brought it on. Why was he ranting now about something that had existed for quite some time now? It made no sense.
-
Ragingfire stared across the border moodily, sheathing and unsheathing his claws. It wasn't that he hadn't ranted about it a million times, but that he felt partially guilty for the whole affair.
-
Earthpaw quietly padded toward the Fourtrees border. She looked around and saw that everything was doing good so far. "Everything's clear. Let's go back to camp." Earthpaw walked back toward the camp.
Out!
-
Whispersong was about to retort that the apprentice shouldn't be the one to give her, a warrior or any other is the patrol orders, but shook her head and didn't say anything about it. Apprentices would be apprentices.
-
Ragingfire nodded and started to head back slowly. His expression was stony, like a mask. He tried to stay near Nightowl. He wanted to talk to her, even if the idea was embaressing.
-
Nightowl turned smartly, glad to leave the stench of the Thunderpath behind. She didn't even mind Ragingfire's proximity to her for a while, but eventually when her head cleared she became very conscious of his presence beside her.
-
Ragingfire saw Nightowl slowly notice his presence. "Nightowl, can I talk to you privately?" he asked, hoping she couldn't see or hear the butterflies bumping along his stomach.
-
Nightowl wasn't prepared for this question. "Um . . . yes," she finally answered, shooting him a puzzled glance. She stopped walking, allowing the others to get ahead. Finally they were all alone. She turned to him, watching him, equal portions curiosity and dread in her emerald gaze.
-
Ragingfire looked into her eyes with his golden ones and bit his tongue. Now that they were alone, it was all he could do to not blubber like an idiot. "Do... Do you want to come hunting?" he asked, the first thing that came to his mind. For that he was grateful. Hunting was friendly, and not in any way romantic. Well, not too much... Eep!
-
Nightowl breathed out in a whoosh, realizing just now that she had been holding it. That wasn't so bad. "Yeah. Sure." She turned her back on him and began to taste the air for prey.
-
Ragingfire gave silent thanks to Starclan and walked off in the opposite direction, listening intently for the scruffle of paws on the forest floor. He tried to keep his pawsteps light and silent.
-
Nightowl quickly and gracefully brought down a sparrow. She turned to bury it, and saw Ragingfire a little ways off, stalking something she could not see. Enraptured, the she-cat continued to watch, hidden from his view.
-
The silver tabby glanced over at the two, and decided to leave them alone. With a flick of her tail as a sign of departure, Whispersong headed back to the camp.
ooc; Out. :)
-
Ragingfire watched a mouse. He stalked it carefully, checking for any twigs to step on. He got within range, pouncing and dispatching it with a swift bite.
-
Nightowl turned away before he could spot her watching him, starting to dig a hole so that their freshkill wouldn't be stolen by other predators.
-
It was only when he started to look for Nightowl he realized that eyes had just stopped watching him. He shrugged it off and headed toward her scent, dropping the catch into the hole she dug.
-
Nightowl kicked the dirt back over the rodent and the bird before padding off in search of more prey.
-
Ragingfire went to hunt again.
-
Nightowl easily killed a vole and returned to bury it with the other freshkill. Seeing Ragingfire slink off to hunt once again, the black she-cat decided to speak, not caring if she scared away his prey. "Ragingfire," she called, "I know you didn't ask me to hunt because you felt the Clan was in imminent danger of starving." Nightowl was tired of beating around the bush, but she didn't want to admit her feelings first in case he rejected her.
