    Okay so my favorite is elimination but a problem like this can be easier with substitution.


    First, use the smallest and simplest equation: -x + y = 7
    First, you get either y or x by itself. To avoid getting distracted by a negative variable (letter whatever you wish to call it)
    we find y:


    - add x on both sides: -x + x = 0 and 7 + x which will leave you with y = 7 +x


    Substitute that in for why in your second equation okay?


    So: 2x - 2y = -18. We know y = 7 + x. Substitute (7 + x) in for every "y" you see in your second equation.


    - 2x - 2y = -18 changes to 2x - 2(7+x)= -18


    Then you solve for "x".



    Pausing to make sure you got all that.

    2x - 2(7+x)= -18 which equals 2x -14 -2x = -18
    combine the 'x' variables so it's -14 = -18 which means there are no solutions, right?

    my school is stupid, it's the advanced math and science stupid hellhole and they force all these math and science classes on us at a young age and it sucks xDD

    Almost. When you combine the "x" variables you end up with 4x - 14 = 18 you see?


    Now get x by itself.




    XD wow splash. But usually for standard classes, you don't take algebra 1 until your ninth grade year. Currently taking college courses and shit. I wish I had my old classes -_-
