    black and ember set down the kits so they could run around a bit and play. the three kits began exploring imediately. They went about 15 foxlengths from the group, peeking into hollow trunks and shoving their noses into huge clumps of grass

    the three kits were the closest to hawk and rush and far from the group of spirit riley and their parents

    Spirit skidded to a stop behind Riley and panted to catch his breath. He noticed Rush, the hair on his neck rising rapidly. He bared his teeth and growled. "You leave us then come back!? Whats the matter with you!?" He lashed his tail, still behind Riley.

    Hawk dashed to Rush's side. He stopped and his own fur bristled. "Calm down."
