the sun was high in the sky and fat, puffy white clouds were drifting lazily through the cerulean depths. birds flitted from branch to branch, their harmonic songs echoing off of the massive lake nearby. mice and rivervoles and all sorts of land prey skittered and scampered across the muddy lakebed, snacking on roots and insects. a dragonfly landed momentarily before taking off again. the summer day was busy and noisy in almost a peaceful way, the world in perfect harmony with all its living things. that was when somebody ruined the song with a brutal, bloody note.

"gotcha!" eccentricvelocity yowled triumphantly as she snapped the neck of a plump brown bunny. another clean catch for the natural-born hunter. more prey for me, less for thunderclan, she thought proudly. even though the small calico she-cat wasn't actually on thunderclan territory, there was always that tiny chance that the rabbit would have wandered over there... right? "see?" she murmured to herself, glancing over her shoulder with lazily narrowed green eyes. "i didn't need any of you."

eccentricvelocity had been forced to leave thunderclan when she became pregnant with a rogue's kits as an apprentice. of course, technically, her name was eccentricpaw back then, but she'd changed it. a scared, weak she-cat left to fend for herself, driven crazy with the loss of her clan, eccentricvelocity had once believed that having a warrior name would protect her and her kits.

plenty of others still attacked, and she still had a miscarriage.

she'd learn to survive alone though. and life was good. sometimes, though, thoughts of petritchor still haunted her. if i ever get my paws on him, he'll see that i'm not the same weak girl who couldn't fight... eccentricvelocity's claws slid out and sank into the rabbit's limp body, staining it with blood.

    [/fancypost]

  • "You're ruining that rabbit." Out of seemingly nowhere, a sleek smoke-tortie tom emerged from a bush. He fought the urge to snicker at the she-cat as he realized who it was, but managed to keep a cool face. "It's disrespectful, seeing as it died for you. Scoot it this way, so that I can show you how to manage fresh-kill." Smiling arrogantly, the tom fixed his deep olive green eyes on the she-cat standing before him. "C'mon, do an old friend a favor."

  • [fancypost bgcolor=#000000; bordercolor=#ffffff; borderwidth=1px; overflow: auto; height: 480px; width: 460px; background:url('http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg574/swirlehkid/bgyay-4.jpg')]

spinning around to face the voice that had addressed her, a wave of panic struck eccentricvelocity. that arrogant, too-cool-for-school voice was familiar, too familiar...

eccentricvelocity stared at the tom before her, mouth clamped shut, not trusting herself to speak. standing in front of the small she-cat was petritchor. "what are you doing here?" she snarled coldly, surprised by how steady her voice was. if only she could say the same for her paws, which were trembling violently. Heart beating quickly, vision pulsing, eccentricvelocity fought off the urge to allow every fur on her body to stand on end.

as the silence dragged on for a good five minutes, she quietly added, "you're not one to talk about respect, petritchor."

ooc: yay, you made it! 8D dis be an awtum fwed bubby

    [/fancypost]

  • Petritchor chuckled softly, raising one brow. "Really, Eccentricpaw? That isn't what you thought last time you met me." Circling her slowly with a sly smile, he ran his tail across her muzzle. "Need I refresh your memory?"

Taking on the polite, boyish charm that he'd used to trick Eccentricvelocity into trusting him last time, Petritchor plopped down in front of her and grinned a seemingly genuine smile. "Something about... best thing that ever happened to you?"

  • [fancypost bgcolor=#000000; bordercolor=#ffffff; borderwidth=1px; overflow: auto; height: 480px; width: 460px; background:url('http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg574/swirlehkid/bgyay-4.jpg')]

swallowing hard, eccentricvelocity faced the tom with a cold gleam in her eyes. "it's eccentricvelocity now. and you tricked me," she snarled, curling her lip. "a-an-an-and you, you u-used me!" panic overwhelmed her. she was the same cat. still too weak to fight the tom.

    [/fancypost]

  • "You aren't the only one who's changed, Eccentricvelocity," said Petritchor in a sweet, genuine voice... or so it seemed. Really, his mind was spinning out more plots. Cruel, maybe, but he played hearts like a violinist played the violin. "I was wrong, and I wouldn't do that type of thing ever again." Narrowing his eyes slightly, wondering if it was too early, he asked, "So how are our kits?"

  • [fancypost bgcolor=#000000; bordercolor=#ffffff; borderwidth=1px; overflow: auto; height: 480px; width: 460px; background:url('http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg574/swirlehkid/bgyay-4.jpg')]

    [fancypost bgcolor=#000000; bordercolor=#000000; borderwidth=1px; overflow: auto; height: 240px; width: 220px; background:url('http://i50.tinypic.com/33dw9it.png')]

it was a believable act, but eccentricvelocity wasn't ready to trust petritchor again quite yet. she hated him, right? so why was her stomach getting butterflies, her heart thumping wildly. fear, surely, she thought, but in her heart the she-cat knew that that was a lie.

steadying herself, she snapped, "it was a miscarriage." you failed, but that, too, was a lie. because everybody knew that he didn't want the kits.

    [/fancypost]

  • Petritchor eyed her, not letting any of his feelings be revealed. "What a loss." Jaws parted slightly, he started panting a bit. "Well, putting the past behind us, I'm starving. What did you catch for me?"

  • [fancypost bgcolor=#000000; bordercolor=#ffffff; borderwidth=1px; overflow: auto; height: 480px; width: 460px; background:url('http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg574/swirlehkid/bgyay-4.jpg')]

    [fancypost bgcolor=#000000; bordercolor=#000000; borderwidth=1px; overflow: auto; height: 240px; width: 220px; background:url('http://i50.tinypic.com/33dw9it.png')]

fury surged through her. the nerve of him! what right does he have to be- eccentricvelocity opened her mouth to snarl out every insult her 8-moon-old mouth knew, but was surprised when she said, "we can share the rabbit." the instant the words left her mouth, the calico regretted them. what am i doing? i hate him!

    [/fancypost]

  • "Thanks!" Petritchor purred warmly, eyes bright. Everything was going just how he'd wanted it to. Leaning down to tear out a mouthful of the warm meat, his green gaze flickered up to lock with hers. "I missed you," he muttered as he chewed. It was just the type of lie that she-cats would go for.

  • [fancypost bgcolor=#000000; bordercolor=#ffffff; borderwidth=1px; overflow: auto; height: 480px; width: 460px; background:url('http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg574/swirlehkid/bgyay-4.jpg')]

    [fancypost bgcolor=#000000; bordercolor=#000000; borderwidth=1px; overflow: auto; height: 240px; width: 220px; background:url('http://i50.tinypic.com/33dw9it.png')]

pain stung at eccentricvelocity's chest, her eyes threatened to flood with tears. because in that moment, as their eyes locked, she knew that she didn't stand a chance. this was going to end up just like last time— she was falling for him. but maybe this time he really was different. and, after a moment of pondering this thought, she whispered back to him. "i missed you too."

    [/fancypost]

  • Smiling slightly, Petritchor ate just less than his fair share of the rabbit. He left only enough to prove, in this delusional she-cat's mind, that he wouldn't take from her again. Sitting up and swiping his tongue over his mouth, the tom waited patiently for Eccentricvelocity to finish. When she'd swallowed her last bite, he asked, "Do you want to go do something? I know a really great place on the other side of the lake."

  • [fancypost bgcolor=#000000; bordercolor=#ffffff; borderwidth=1px; overflow: auto; height: 480px; width: 460px; background:url('http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg574/swirlehkid/bgyay-4.jpg')]

    [fancypost bgcolor=#000000; bordercolor=#000000; borderwidth=1px; overflow: auto; height: 240px; width: 220px; background:url('http://i50.tinypic.com/33dw9it.png')]

"sure. but it'll be late by the time we trek down there and back, and my den is big. you could stay there for the night if you wante—" the words came tumbling out too quickly for her to hold them in. humiliated, and disgusted at herself for trusting him again, eccentricvelocity studeied her shuffling paws as her coat grew hot with embarrassment.

    [/fancypost]

  • "Yes, that would be quite nice," he purred, letting the emotionless mask over his face slip to show joy. "Follow me!" And with that, Petritchor was off running. Unlike his smaller, stockier companion, the tom was sleek and fit. It wasn't long before he was panting, though, from the pace he was going. "It's a bit muggy out, eh? Perhaps we should walk in the lake, to cool our pads..." A mischievous gleam in his eyes, Petritchor leapt forward without warning, aiming to lock his paws around the she-cat's neck and force her into the water.

  • [fancypost bgcolor=#000000; bordercolor=#ffffff; borderwidth=1px; overflow: auto; height: 480px; width: 460px; background:url('http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg574/swirlehkid/bgyay-4.jpg')]

    [fancypost bgcolor=#000000; bordercolor=#000000; borderwidth=1px; overflow: auto; height: 240px; width: 220px; background:url('http://i50.tinypic.com/33dw9it.png')]

"ack!" came eccentricvelocity's scream of shock as the cold water engulfed her. petritchor had his front legs locked around her neck, and the two were tumbling deeper into the water. "l-let go!" she screeched in terror, fighting to keep her head above water. panic enveloped eccentricvelocity. "help!" she cried out, terrified as she rolled and sloshed, mouth filling with water. "i can't swim!"

    [/fancypost]

  • Petritchor stared at her silently, not moving a muscle, for a moment before raising one eyebrow. "Try standing." The water was only up to his belly.

  • [fancypost bgcolor=#000000; bordercolor=#ffffff; borderwidth=1px; overflow: auto; height: 480px; width: 460px; background:url('http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg574/swirlehkid/bgyay-4.jpg')]

    [fancypost bgcolor=#000000; bordercolor=#000000; borderwidth=1px; overflow: auto; height: 240px; width: 220px; background:url('http://i50.tinypic.com/33dw9it.png')]

after wallowing around for another few heartbeats, eccentricvelocity stood up on shaking legs. "you could've warned me," she grumbled, embarrassed. without waiting for a reply, she shook the beads of icy water out of her coat and began walking towards the other side of the lake.

    [/fancypost]

  • Petritchor followed Eccentricvelocity, bantering playfully. The moons that he'd known her, back when she lived in ThunderClan, had given him an advantage. The handsome tom still remembered her likes and dislikes.

Finally, he pulled ahead and dashed towards a small cluster of aspens. "Here we are!" Petritchor announced, waving his tail around. "Welcome to my home."

The two found themselves facing a massive hollowed-out oak tree in the center of all the aspens. Width-wise, it was at least five foxlengths in each direction and had to be a couple of hundred years old. Inviting her inside his den, Petritchor began giving a "tour" of sorts. The floor had a small dip where he kept prey. A small shelf on the wall, all three edges turned up slightly, was stuffed to the brim with moss and feathers, pressed down where he'd slept. There were two more shelves like these. One was also full of bedding, and the final one- much deeper than the others- was full of water that he'd gathered using moss. Extra bedding stuffed the floor, and turned up areas, acting like half-walls, covered the floor, making room-like areas.

  • [fancypost bgcolor=#000000; bordercolor=#ffffff; borderwidth=1px; overflow: auto; height: 480px; width: 460px; background:url('http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/gg574/swirlehkid/bgyay-4.jpg')]

    [fancypost bgcolor=#000000; bordercolor=#000000; borderwidth=1px; overflow: auto; height: 240px; width: 220px; background:url('http://i50.tinypic.com/33dw9it.png')]

"oh, petritchor... this is amazing!" eccentricvelocity gasped, taking in the cozy surroundings. in comparison, her underground hideaway seemed barbaric, more like a prison than a home.

    [/fancypost]

  • Without a word, the tom signaled for her to follow him. "Yes, I am lucky to have such a comfortable den. Many do not get such luxuries. But that isn't what I brought you here for. Without hesitation, Petritchor twined his tail with Eccentricvelocity's, thankful for the lack of stars that was hiding his sly smile. Everything was falling into place perfectly...

"I hope you can still climb!" he purred, leaping up his tree until he was at the highest branch that would support his weight. The maze of the aspens' branches mixed with it, and it was almost like a balcony. Very romantic, he thought with a chuckle.
