DAWN- Black she-cat with white tail
Stars filled the wide-open moors; lighting up the world with their large glows. Flashes of various colors shot through the bushes, gleaming and glancing everywhere around the clearing as if they were trying to look for something in particular, but the cost was clear. Sighing, one of the cats: a bright yellow tom stepped out and flicked his tail in signal for the others to follow. Every single cat sprang from the bushes and trailed behind the large tom, prepared for what was in store. The cats were off to a dangerous battle where blood would be shed, and there would be no mercy.
The cats confidently strode through the clearing, feeling all their senses become alert for any sneak attacks, but everywhere seemed to be empty with lurking enemies. They came to a hill and simply climbed up it, only to be looking down at the place they have longed to go. Down below them was a steep slope filled with holes that were used as dens, which cats slept peacefully in; unaware of the attack that was about to strike. The yellow tom pointed his gaze at a small jet black she-cat and meowed to her, "Silentpaw, I need you to stay up here in case something goes wrong. If that happens, I'll send someone to tell you to go fetch a patrol back at camp." Silentpaw slightly nodded in understandment and said, "Okay Thunderclap, I won't let you down!"
Thunderclap turned toward the other cats. "Follow me down quietly and carefully." He ordered as he began to stalk down the slope; every one of his intincts ready for battle! The others were also very confident; their eyes glistening in anticipation. Everything was silent until a warning yowl was sounded. "I see intruders! There's no time to waste, get up; attack!" At the very moment of the last word Thunderclap and his patrol sprang into action, slashing at every cat they could get their claws on! The war was raging, and very visciously as cats fought from left to right. Thunderclap pounced right into a dark brown tabby tom, pinning him down with his sharp claws dug into the warrior's shoulders. "Thunderclap, why have you come here!" The brown tabby hissed, staring into Thunderclap's eyes with his deep blue gaze.
For a moment Thunderclap stared back and fastened his claws tighter, not letting go and growling, "We're taking back our territory Wingedsoul! This land belongs to us, not Dashclan!" Wingedsoul rolled his eyes. "This land is ours now! You know, just because your clan's called Desireclan; doesn't mean they'll actually get everything they desire!" Thunderclap let a growl escape from his lungs then snarled, "Nobody threatens my clan like that or treats them with such little respect!" The yellow warrior dug his claws deeper into Wingedsoul's flesh and watched the blood drops escape from between his claws. He saw fear into the Dashclan deputy's eyes before they slowly closed, and didn't re-open.
Thunderclap slowly stepped away, only to take a quick glance to reasure that the warrior was dead before searching for another victim. But as he was trying to find one, a beautiful ginger she-cat raced up to him and said, "Graystorm is badly injured, and she may not be able to continue the fight." He voice was full with concern and worry. Graystorm and her were sisters and shared a wonderful bond: Thunderclap could tell that she was scared of losing her sister in a battle for their territory. Thunderclap immedietly said, "Canarysong, we must retreat. Far too many of our warriors are injured and there's no time to spare. We must find another way to take back our territory without any bloodshedding. Take Graystorm and lead her back to our temperary camp and I'll gather up the rest."
Canarysong nodded and raced back toward where her sister continued to fight even though her shoulder had a huge gash on it where scarlet blood dripped down to the ground. He made sure that they had got out of the battle safetly before calling out, "Desireclan, retreat! Quickly, we'll find another way to avenge our territory, but right now we must get our injured to safety so retreat!" The cats instantly began racing out; knowing that their wise deputy was never wrong. They headed toward a gloomy forest where their camp was being held for now. Once his clanmates were all on their way, Thunderclap fell in behind them.
Camp was just in the middle of the forest. They used trees for sleeping on, but their wasn't enough room and it got far too cold at night for the kits to even stand. But this is all they could find after Dashclan had driven them out of their territory, even though Dashclan had their own. Now that enemy clan had two territories and they were more powerful than any other clan in the area. Thunderclap peered inside an old fox den that the medicine cat used as a place to store herbs and heal the sick and injured. Inside a snow white tom with black spots was patching up Graystorm's wound. Thunderclap stared blankly at them before the white tom turned to face him. "Hello Thunderclap." He greeted. "Who else appears to be injured?"
"Nobody really Owlsight, but Winddrift has blood dripping from his ear and Nightlight's limping." He answered, curiously twitching his tail. Owlsight dipped his head and meowed, "I'll go see to them." And in a few heartbeats the young medicine cat was gone. Thunderclap sighed, wondering if they'd ever get their territory back, but then the sight of Wingedsoul's fear in his eyes blinded the Desireclan deputy. Words echoed in Thunderclap's ears, "Once the battle is won, another one will come. But this one full of hurt and betral, and only one who will rise above all can prevail." Pain shot through Thunderclap's soul as the words echoed in his mind. Then a flash of fire burned through, and a large gray tom walked strait through without getting burned. Once the battle is won, another one will come."
"Hey Jay!" A tan tom with a brown patch that ringed around his eye walked towards a dark gray tabby. The tabby's tail shot up as he ran into the streets greet his friend. "Hello Scrap." He meowed in a calm tone. Scrap sat down and carefully rested his tail on top of his paws and began to groom it. "How are things going at the farm?" Jay asked; his eyes wide in curiousity. "Oh, things are wonderful!" Scrap exclaimed. "There are tons of mice to catch, it's as if they prey runs towards me!" "Then what are you doing on the streets?" Jay interrupted. "I just came to find you. Besides, I got a bit bored." Scrap's eyes flickered towards shadows in the distance.
Jay saw Scrap's gaze and stared directly at the same shadows. "Quick!" He hissed. "It's my father and his rouge crew, you better go!" Jay remembered last time he and his friend got caught; it wasn't pretty. His father attacked Scrap, which is terrible because Scrap isn't the strongest cat. In fact, he wouldn't survive one night in the wilderness by himself. Scrap smelled like fear and he dove into a nearby silver cylinder, that humans call trash cans. Jay glared back at the trash can before stepping towards a massive white tom that had a scar across his eye. The tom strode fiercly through the city; and when he reached Jay he grabbed his scruff and threw him against the wall of a human building.
Jay gasped hardly as if he wasn't breathing and he looked helplessly at his father. The white tom swiped his paw at the tash can, tipping it over and watched as Scap slid out. "I should've known!" He growled, pinning Scrap down and gritting his teeth. Scrap squealed and struggled to break free from the larger cat's grip, but nothing seemed to work. "Pl-please don't hurt me!" Scrap screeched, and to Jay it was horrifying. Jay was about to get up and run towards his friend but a call rose in the air. "Callè!" It was Dawn, a black she-cat part of Callè's crew. Callè turned around to look at Dawn but still held the kit down. Dawn seemed angry, and she hissed into Callè's ear. "Callè, he's just a kit and not worth the time! Let him go and we'll kill the bigger victims." Her voice was steady, but not soothing.
Callè released his grip from Scrap and said, "Just this once kit. You got lucky!" He turned around and headed towards the rest of his group, and totally forgot sbout his son. Jay finally was able to get to his paws and raced toward Scrap, hoping that he was okay. "Jay, yo-your father l-left with-without you." Scrap said, stuttering all over. Jay cocked his head and muttered, "That's wierd. He never leaves me out of his sight." Scrap nodded and suggested, "We can roam around the city freely!" Jay nodded, "Finally! Hopefully he doesn't find me anytime soon." Jay was never really fond of his father. It turns out that he abandoned him as a kit, then later on found him again and constently abused him. Callè was turned into a cold-blooded murderer that held Jay captive his enire life.
"I hope he never finds you!" Scrap stated, quickly getting up and shaking garbadge off his pelt. Jay raced across the street, looking back to make sure that Scrap was following; and indeed he was. The two talked and laughed and explored for a while until a huge field opened up in front of them. They both sat in front of the field for a while until Scrap pawed Jay and yowled, "You're it!" He scampered into the field, prancing on wild flowers as he tried to get away from the gray tabby. But Jay was close on his tail, laughing and kept chasing him until finally his paw hooked Scrap's back paw. They both fell down and laughed until they ran out if breath. Jay's gaze flickered towards large trees and he gasped in awe. "Look Scrap, it's the forest!"
Scrap seemed to have chills surged through him before he repeated, "The forest. Bu-but remember what those city cats said about th-the..." He trailed off before continuing, "Night-Walkers." Jay stared at Scrap as if he was insane and meowed, "Well yeah, but you know how city cats are always spreading rumors. They were just trying to scare us that's all!" Scrap seemed unsure about what to think. "We should go explore the forest!" Jay suggested. "No!" Scrap yowled as soon as Jay finished his scentence. "Those Night-Walkers aren't real." Jay began to grow annoyed from Scrap's theory. "You don't know that!" Scrap hissed. "Night-Walkers... Th-they are cats who stalk through the forests, waiting for the easiest kill. They fight for the fun of it, and they drink other's blood!" Jay blinked, speechless. "Wow..." He repeated. "I wish that I could be so furocious!" Scrap shook his head. "You don't get the point! Night-Walkers are deadly, and there's no way you're getting me into that forest!"
Several minutes later; Jay had Scrap's tail clamped between his jaws and he pulled the tan tom through the openings in between the trees. The forest was darker than it seemed, but Jay wasn't scared for one moment unlike Scrap who was whispering, "Night-Walkers don't get me! Night-Walkers don't get me!" Jay rolled his eyes and coninued padding in the unfamiliar territory. Suddenly birds stopped chirping and mice ducked into their burrows. Something was coming. The forest grew so quiet that Jay knew something was wrong; but Scrap hardly even noticed. Pelts of orange black and gray shot through the bushes and flung on Scrap, tustling with him as they rolled around the forest floor. Jay let go of his tail and tried to save his friend without getting hurt but an orange tabby tom pounced into his side, and Jay instantly turned around; slapping his paw at the tom.
A gray tom's claw reached Scrap's eyes, leaving blood to ooze out of the scratch. Scrap yowled in pain and screamed, "NIGHT-WALKERS!!!" He was about to cry but then Jay left the orange tabby laying on the ground, splattered with blood and pulled the black she-cat and gray tom off of Scrap. Scrap layed on the ground, covered in his own blood and was a stiff as a dead mouse. "We-we're terribly sorry." The she-cat appologized. "We thought you might have been part of an enemy clan." Jay had a confused look on his face as well as Scrap. "Clans?" Jay muttered. The gray and black cats both nodded. The gray tom stood up and nudged the smaller orange tom. "You okay Triumphpaw?" He asked. The orange tom jumped to his feet and yowled, "Am I? That was awesome!" Jay focused on the she-cat for a moment and she asked, "So, where do you come from?" Scrap stood up and hissed, "Why should we tell you, you Night-Walker! You almost killed us!" The she-cat laughed, "Night-Walker? We're not Night-Walkers, that's just a rumor!" Jay gave Scrap a quick glance and said, "Told 'ya!"
Scrap growled softly then replied, "I'm from a farm not far from here, and my friend travels around almost everywhere." The she-cat nodded and meowed, "We're from Desireclan! I'm Lightnight and he is Stormrace. We're both warriors. And that is Triumphpaw, an apprentice of our clan." Jay cocked his head. "Clan? Warriors? Apprentices? And you all have wierd names!" He was obviously confused. They all giggled. "Wierd names? They seem normal to us! What are your names?" Stormrace asked. "I'm Jay and this is Scrap!" Jay meowed, looking up at the cats in awe. "Cool." The she-cat meowed. "We'll take you back to our camp where you can learn more about us and listen to our stories!" She began leading the way towards the middle of the woods.
Jay gradualy followed and Scrap hissed, "You're actually going to follow them? But you don't know them!" "Well we'll get to know them." Jay's voice was calm. "They seem interesting..." He trailed off as the others began picking up speed and going faster than Jay had ever seen any cat run! He picked up his pace, trying to impress the older cats as he caught up to them. Scrap was so slow comparing to all of them, and he was way behind! He struggled to catch up; only to run out of breath quickly.
They all reached some trees where countless cats sat on trees and talked to eachother. Jay smiled, knowing that this is where their camp was! He looked around at everyone who was staring at him and blushed. "I'll take you both to Faithstar." Stormrace said, and walked toward a small rock where a light gray she-cat with deep sapphire eyes layed down and groomed herself. She looked up and greeted the tom. "Hello Stromrace." Then she glanced at Jay and Scrap. "Who are these two?" Stormrace just said, "It's alright Faithstar, they're not from anither clan."
Jay nodded and meowed, "I'm Jay." "And I'm leaving!" Scrap yowled and walked away then sat down just a little beyond the camp. "He's always like this, he'll come around!" Jay assured her. Faithstar nodded, "Well do you plan on staying for a day or two?" Jay nodded. "Yes please." He said. "Well we're glad to have you." She stood up and called, "Warrior cats, young kits, and the elderly. Please rise up and join me for a clan meeting!"
The full moon rose above even the highest clouds. It was a cold snowy night, and nobody thought that Leaf-bare would come so soon! Even Thunderclap was caught off guard by the cold frost that made him shiver. He walked next to Faithstar as they were on their way to the gathering. Owlsight walked next to Lionroar and behind them was Canarysong, Silentpaw, and Ashpaw. They all were silent as they made their way to ShiningStones. They arrived to see four stones that shone as brightly as the stars, the Riptideclan leader sat on the first one, his tail layed on his paws. He had silky white fur with a brown muzzle. Next to him layed a black tom with yellow eyes, he was leader of Ambitionclan.
Faithstar took her place on the next rock and Thunderclap couldn't help but notice that Dashclan wasn't here. Had they been badly injured from the battle that had occured? Or did they not feel like coming because they'd know that we'd ask for our territory back? The Desireclan deputy just couldn't find the answers. He slowly trailed toward Faithstar and sat in front of her stone. He sighed and glanced at every face of the cats who came to attend the special meeting. Their pelts were well groomed and they were rather plump. Everything was just unfortunant for Desireclan who had very little food and no place to stay.
A yowl rose above the trees as cats pelted through the clearing, taking their places next to other cats and their leader; a red tabby tom leapt on the final stone and flicked his tail in signal to start. The Ambitionclan leader stepped foward. He was going first. "Ambitionclan is doing well." He stated. "We have plenty of food, and two new warriors, Tigerchase and Mellowfang!" "Tigerchase! Mellowfang! Tigerchase! Mellowfang!" Everyone cheered as a dark brown tabby tom and a gray she-cat held their heads up proudly. The black tom turned to the Dashclan leader and said, "Pheonixstar, why don't you go next?" The red tabby tom nodded "Thank you Soulstar." He meowed and stood up, announcing "Dashclan has plenty of prey, and we are very. Healthy. But just a half-moon ago Desireclan striked an attack on our camp and our deputy, Wingedsoul was murdered."
All cats muttered their farewells to Wingedsoul in Starclan. "And our new deputy is Shadowskies!" Everyone chanted his name before Faithstar stepped foward. "I wish Wingedsoul good luck in Starclan." She murmured. "Desireclan is alright. We've been catching enough prey to go around and we now shelter ourselves beneath the trees." She then sat down, not wanting to say more. The Riptideclan leader, Rushstar stood up, his white fur shone in the moonlight. "The rivers have frozen up and we have not been able to catch fish." He announced. "So Riptideclan is now putting in their time to train to catch rabbits. We also have two new apprenrices, Spiritpaw and Snowpaw!" "Spiritpaw! Snowpaw!" The loud cheers filled the clearing.
All leaders began to jump off their rocks. The gathering was over. Thunderclap stood up and walked around, trying to gather up his clan. Once they were all together and began heading back to camp, Thunderclap spotted Faithstar and Rushstar together. They were chatting and then Rushstar pressed his muzzle against Faithstar's and murmered something that Thunderclap couldn't catch. What is going on between them? He thought, but just slid past them and acted like he didn't hear or see anything! He raced through the bushes to catch up with his clan and thought about what he had just seen. Was Faithstar breaking the warrior code? He couldn't imagine Faithstar, his own sister breaking the warrior code! It wasn't like her, and he wanted to find out more.
A few minutes later Faithstar caught up to them. Thunderclap tried not to make eye contact with her as they walked. "Help!" A scream was sounded and Thunderclap raced toward it, his clan following behind. He came to a ton of cats who had collars and bells. They were attacking a cat, and Thunderclap reconized the tan fur. Scrap! Scrap and Jay came into the clan just three days ago and Jay was a natural survivor, unlike Scrap who sat next to the freshkill pile and talked to his prey all day. Thunderclap batted at a black and white tom, and he flung him into a tree. The rest of the clan cats swung into action, clawing and biting and pinning down the city cats who soon enough fled toward their own territory.
Scrap had a giant scar on his eye and tons of other scratches, including a torn ear! Thunderclap grabbed his scruff and hurried back to camp. Scrap needed to get to Owlsight! They reached the trees that they used for shelter and the deputy brought Srap into the fox den, where Owlsight sat and sorted herbs. He turned to see Scrap and gasped, "We better get you fixed up!" He grabbed cobwebs as Scrap groaned, he was obviously hurting. Thunderclap carefully placed Scrap in a nearby nest and raced out, pounding into Faithstar. They both flung back and quickly got up. Faithstar shook dirt off her pelt and said, "Sorry Thunderclap, I wasn't paying much attention." He nodded as she left and for the first time ever, he noticed that his leader reeked of fish.
It's been half a moon since Desireclan had taken in Scrap and Jay. They offered full apprenticeship to the two cats and Jay seemed to like the idea of that, but Scrap wasn't fond if these cats. He had been less fiesty towards them after they rescued him from those mouse-brained city cats, but Scrap still didn't want anything to do with them! He paced around the clearing at night, hoping that Jay wasn't to accept their offer. Scrap belonged in a barn, not a forest! And there is no way he'd leave Jay here in the clan alone with these wild cats.
Scrap sighed and layed down on the ground, scooping up dirt in his paw and then dropping it. "Hey." A dark shadow casted over Scrap and he looked up to see Jay. "Go away!" He hissed and buried his nose under his paws. Jay shook his head then said, "I want to know why your so... Grumpy." His voice was calm as he glared at Scrap who was now coughing up grass. "Jay." Scrap began. "We don't belong in these woods, you have your father who is probably looking for you and I have my life as a mouse catcher in my barn!"
Jay look blankly at his friend and meowed, "But we can't go back now." "Why not?!" Scrap interrupted, his eyes glistened in misunderstandment. "I-I," Jay stuttered, "I accepted their offer." Scrap had a flash of anger in his gaze as he turned and sat down away from Jay. Why? He asked himself. Why would Jay say yes when he knows that I can't stand the forest? Scrap didn't seem to understand what Jay was doing but he didn't like it.
The tom sighed deeply and whispered, "I guess I'll try..." He turned to see Jay smile and exclaim, "Thanks! Trust me Scrap you'll begin to be a great warrior!" Ever since Jay and him came Jay had been learning everything about warriors, their code, and everything else! And of course, Scrap listened a bit to get the point so training couldn't be too hard... Right? Scrap was going to do this to make Jay happy, but he was unaware that he was not allow to back down...
Scrap curled up in the cold snow and closed his eyes. He was freezing and shivering to death, but there wasn't anything he could do about the weather. It's not like he could just make the snow disapear or anything, so Scrap just covered his tail over his paws and settled his breathing. He imagined that he was back at the farm, chasing chickens and racing the herding dog. Things were different here though, it was much colder and there was no shelter!
Scrap was told that this was just a temperary camp and that their old camp had cozy warm dens and it wasn't completely covered in trees. It was a ravine, a pretty big one too! There was plenty dens and even a nursery for the little kits. Scrap just wished that he had been in that camp instead of this one... Soon enough he found himself dozing off and dreaming sweet dreams about his past.
"Warrior cats, young kits, and the elderly. Please rise up and join me for a clan meeting!" Faithstar stood on a rock and shouted out as loud as possible. Scrap opened his eyes and noticed that the clan was having a meeting, and he quickly ran to join them. Jay seemed excited for something, but Scrap couldn't tell what; then he remembered last night. This must be the ceremony for them becoming apprentices. Scrap settled himself next to Jay, who was smiling like this was the best thing that had ever happened.
"All of you know that these two young toms have been staying with us for almost a moon now, and they have asked for apprenticeship." Her gaze flickered toward Jay and she mewoed, "Jay, your skills have been shown throughout the time you have spent with us and you have such enthusiasm that cheers everyone in the clan up. You will now be known as Jaypaw. Winddrift, your speed is outstanding and you are ready for your first apprentice so you will mentor Jaypaw."
A white tom with silver eyes stood up and touched noses with Jaypaw. Jaypaw smiled, he was an apprentice! "Scrap." Faithstar said, gazing at Scrap with her sharp blue eyes. "You are proud and won't let any cat stand in your way, not many clan cats have that quality. You will now be known as Scrappaw. Fierystorm, you will mentor Scrappaw. You are great in battle and I know that you will be able to pass on these traits to Scrappaw. Fierystorm, an orange tabby with unusual electric blue eyes pressed his nose against Scrappaw's. Scrappaw wanted to pull away but he knew that if he did that he would not be respectful at his own ceremony!
Once the meeting was over, the two apprentices' mentors walked towards them. "We're going to take you out to show you the territory." Winddrift meowed. Fierystorm nodded and said, "Come Scrappaw, Jaypaw. and while we're out there we're going to teach you two how to position yourself while hunting." The large tom sprinted out of camp and led the way through the woods.
They came to a small stream that was frozen in an open area. "This is the stream." Winddrift explained. "It's water runs throughout our territory to Riptideclan's. What do you smell?" Jaypaw and Scrappaw both lifted their noses in the air and Jaypaw said, "I smell a fishy scent mixed with cats." Winddrift nodded. "That what Riptideclan smells like, they live on that side of the border." He pointed his tail strait ahead.
"They live in open fields." Scrappaw pointed out as he stared into their territory. "Yes. Don't get to close to their borders though, their fish smell will kill any cat who steps too close to it!" Fierystorm joked then turned to his apprentice. "Scrappaw, I'm going to quiz you and we'll see how well you remember what you've learned so far." Scrappaw was unsure. Were they doubting his memory? Did they think he wasn't good enough to teach? But he just nodded and waited for the first question.
"Where is the Riptideclan border?" Fierystorm asked. Scrappaw knew this one instantly. "Just right down there, in front of us." He answered. "Very good." Fierystorm replied. "What do Riptideclan smell like?" This was an easy one. "Fish." Scrappaw said, covering his nose at the disguisting odor coming from the other side of the river. Fierystorm nodded, "And how do you catch fish? "Scoop them with my paws." He answered, then noticed that Fierystorm never even told them that! "I didn't tell you how." Fierystorm said, as if he read Scrappaw's mind. "I was testing to see how you instincitively know the ways of the wild, and you just passed."
What? Scrappaw cocked his head. He never knew he had it in him! When he actually thinks about things, Scrappaw could guess how to do everything in the clan. He smiled and Jaypaw whispered, "Good job Scrappaw! I never knew that you would guess that!" He pranced along, following the older cats and Scrappaw quickly followed.
They learned a few other things about the other clans. Scrappaw and Jaypaw found out that Ambitionclan hunt at night and they are the most feared clan, along with Dashclan who have the strength of a lion and the speed of a cheetah! Now it was about sunset and they were about to learn their hutning crouch! Scrappaw got into position and thought to himself about what would scare the prey away. He noticed that his tail was strait up and that prey would see it and scurry back into their dens, so he placed his tail on the ground, but not touching it so that prey wouldn't hear it being dragged.
"Very good." Fierystorm praised. Jaypaw tried to copy Scrappaw but there was always something wrong with his crouch! It was either his tail was strait up or strait down, or he stepped on a leaf or something else that was comepletely mouse-brained! "Don't give up." Winddrift said, trying to help Jaypaw get it right this time. Finally he was in the correct position and began stalking around. "I think that's enough training for today!" Fierystorm said and nodded to Scrappaw who had almost caught a squirrel. Winddrift nodded and said, "Tomorrow we'll teach you battle moves." They all began to make thier way back to camp, and once they arrived, Winddrift said, "You both deserve to have first pick of freshkill from the pile."
They nodded and Jaypaw grabbed a rabbit. They layed down to eat it and watched three small tom kits pouncing on a ball of moss. Their mother, a white she-cat with gray and white patches came toward them and said, "Okay, which one of you kits put thorns in my nest!" She said it like she wasn't angry, but in a playful mood. The brown kit said, "It was Pridekit!" A tortishell kit hissed, "It wasn't me! It was Piercekit!" The orange kit stared at Pridekit. "No, it was Pinekit! He blames everything on us!" He yowled. The brown tom stuck out his tongue at his brothers. "Well I think it was all three of you!" The white she-cat purred and began licking her kits.
Jaypaw and Scrappaw laughed as they watched the kits try to avoid their mother's grooming. Scrappaw began to warm up to these cats by the minute, but still felt as if there was something wrong with them. He didn't want to completely trust the clan cats until he gathered every single bit of information about their lives.
"What!" Rushstar hurried out of a hole in a rock which was his den. He scampered toward a red tabby tom. "Mistygloom is dead?!?!" This was all so confusing, and Rushstar didn't think he could handle it at all! "Afraid so." The red tom meowed, placing the dead body of a gray tom on he ground." "H-how could this happen!? Parrotwing, he didn't even have an apprentice; what is Starclan thinking?!" Parrotwing made a clicking noise with his tongue. "We were out on patrol and he tagged along to pick catmint. But suddenly a patrol of city cats attacked and they murdered Mistygloom."
Rushstar's eyes were full of grief and he repeated, "He didn't even have an apprentice...." Parrotwing finally understood, and meowed "I know, but we'll get a new medicine cat eventually. We just have to wait for Starclan's signal." Rushstar slowly shook his head. "No." He murmered. "Starclan is turning on us! They killed Mistygloom, no worst, they killed him while a sickness is spreading around camp!" "Calm down!" Parrotwing ordered. "Starclan would never turn on us, even if it meant death to them!" The warrior began walking away. "I'll go get Rainisprint." He suggested. "You'd probably want to speak with her." Rushstar sighed and padded to his den, his head hung low and his tail drooping.
The Riptideclan leader flopped in his nest, his pelt shivering of coldness from the chilly air. Leaf-bare was getting worst, and it brought death to their medicine cat! Rushstar glared up at a long furred blue she-cat who brought in some moss and a small mouse. "Hello." She greeted him with a nudge and dropped the mouse and moss in front of him. "Thanks." Rushstar nodded to her and bent down to eat the mouse. "I thought we could share!" She quickly added, staring down at Rushstar with longing eyes. Rushstar lifted his head. "Er... Sure." He said and passed her the mouse. "You take the first bite."
She nodded, her head lowering down towards the prey. She took a quick bite and passed it to Rushstar. Rushstar sighed and bit into the mouse, it's delicious taste made his mouth water. They finished it and they she-cat buried the remains. "Look, Rainisprint..." Rushstar sighed. "You're a great cat and all, you really are! But... we should just be friends, that's all. And plus you are deputy!" He pointed out. Rainisprint slightly nodded, her expressions seemed to grow sad. "That's fine." She lied then turned toward the enterance. "I better send out the patrols." Then in a matter of seconds she was gone.
Rushstar sighed, happy that she understood. He padded out of the den, only to see Parrotwing jump out from the side of the rock. "Rushstar, what are you doing!?" He hissed. "Can't you see that Rainisprint loves you?" Rushstar rolled his eyes. "No she doesn't, and quit eavesdropping!" "Yes she does, it's so obvious!" Parrotwing pointed out. "The way she always talks fast when she's around you, and how she follows you around like a dog to it's twoleg! And also, have you noticed that she gives you anything you want?" Rushstar froze. Maybe he's right... He thought. No, he can't! I have a mate! A mate who is in another clan.... Oh no! Rushstar just remembered something. I have to meet her at moonhigh, and it's moonhigh! He began running out of camp without saying a word.
Rushstar raced across the river and headed towards ShiningStones. On one of the stones sat a light gray she-cat, who was patiently waiting. Good, she's still here! He thought and jumped out of the bushes. "Faithstar!" He called, running towards the rocks. "Rushstar!" She replied, giving his ear a swift lick and asking, "What took you so long?" Rushstar glanced at her then lowered his head. "Mistygloom... Mistygloom's dead." Faithstar blinked. "Rushstar I'm so sorry. Maybe it was a sign from Starclan."
Rushstar seemed to shift a little and he closed his eyes. "Actually Faithstar, I've been meaning to tell you something..." "What, what is it?" Faithstar asked, her eyes glowed in curiosity. "I don...... I don't believe in Starclan." Faithstar's jaw dropped in shock from what he said. "B-but you're a leader! And they gave you your nine lives!" Rushstar shook his head. "I didn't recieve my nine lives, I just pretended to." Faithstar calmed down and said, "It's fine I guess.... It's your belief and I got a little worked-up." "It's okay." Rushstar meowed. "I understand. I'm probably the only leader who doesn't believe in Starclan..."
Faithstar nodded. "But you don't need Starclan to help you lead your clan." She pointed out. "You do that perfectly on your own." They sat quietly for a few seconds before Faithstar jumped off the stones and ran saying, "Try to catch me!" "It's on!" Rushstar called as he raced after her.
They laughed and played for a while, but innocent playing turned into something that never should've happened.
