Dusk hesitated, but then nodded. She shifted a little, then closed her eyes.

Slate watched her for a moment... He felt a sudden dread well up in his chest. How could she be safe with him? He bit his lip, stress making its way in his head again. He stood, walking over to the window, his usual place to stand when he was bothered.
-
Dusk's breathing lightened and evened as she finally slipped into sleep.
-
Slate eyed out of the hospital, glancing back to Dusk every now and then. He turned, looking at the door from where he stood. For all he knew, they could be tracking them down right now. He walked towards the door, each step tore his life from him more with each foot. He opened the door, glancing back at Dusk—How could he live with himself knowing he would put her in danger. But how could he live without her? He bumped into something— someone as he walked through the doorway. He saw the nurse, "Oh, sorry .." he muttered, stepping aside.
--
"Where are you going? Are you sure you don't want a room?" She asked.
--
"No thank you. I will be back shortly." He lied, keeping his wings close to his back though they were hidden by his grey hoodie. -
Dusk was unaware that he had left. Her sleep was peaceful at first, then she started having flashbacks of their recent trip to the School. She whined quietly.
-
The nurse came in with a tray of food. She lightly tapped Dusk on the shoulder.
--
Slate paused outside the hospital doors. He gritted his teeth, unfurling his wings, not caring about the people walking by. He took flight, not sure where he was going.
