Streampaw walked through the grass towards a fence that they kept the horses behind. He climbed up one of the poles and stares at the horses grazing and snoozing, unaware of his presence. But there was someone else there. The grass behid him crunched under paws as he turned around on the pole to meet his mentor.

Shimmerpool followed the scent of her apprentice out of camp, towards the barn where huge animals sometimes stood around grazing. There she found Streampaw sitting up on the fence, watching the horses go about their business.
"Think you could take them?" she joked, stopping below him and looking up with a grin.
-
Streampaw purred as he thought of the concept of him beating up a horse. "Only if you were there to help me!" He replied. Streampaw jumped down from the fence post and landed beside his mentor. "How have you been doing since the flood?" He asked, concerned.
-
Shimmerpool laughed. "Wouldn't that make a great elder's tale! The day Shimmerpool and Streampaw took down a horse. The Clan feasted for days." She grinned at the thought. Although there was no doubt in her mind that a horse would easily win in a fight against a couple cats, the thought was still entertaining.
"Oh, I've been alright." the silver tabby answered, flicking her tail. "...To be honest, I'm a little worried about my friend. I haven't seen her since the flood."
-
Streampaw giggled as he daydreamed of the tale. What would horse taste like? Suddenly he was jolted out of his daydream by Shimmerpools reply. "Really?" Streampaw asked, worried. "Well, I hope she's ok. Who is she?"
-
"Her name was Vulpineheart." Her face twisted in a frown. "I think she might have jumped in the floodwater to save someone, and been swept away. I hope she's alright." What would she do if Vulpineheart wasn't alright? Shimmerpool couldn't help but think it was somewhat her fault.
-
Streampaw felt a pang if sympathy for Shimmerpool as he listened to her story. "Don't worry, I'm sure she'll be found." He said, rubbing up against her body. "I hope we do." He mumbled softly. He walked ahead of his mentor and sat down looking at his paws.
-
"Well...Worrying about it now won't bring her home any sooner." Shimmerpool perked up a bit. She had more immediate things to worry about, like training her apprentice. "You're about ready to become a warrior, so let's have one last assessment. Head out and catch as much prey as you can, then meet me back here at sunhigh." she glanced at the sun, about halfway between the horizon and its highest point. "I'll be watching to see how you do. Ready?"
-
Streampaw dropped into takeoff position. "Do I get bonus point is if bring back a Shadowclan cat?" He asked jokingly, not waiting for a reply. He took off towards the forest at full speed, silver fur shining in the sunlight. He reached the edge of the trees and stopped to sniff. His nose picked up nothing except his own excitment. He forced himslef to calm down and sensitivly wandered forward, searching for prey. Suddenly, the scent of mouse reached his nostrals and he stopped dead in his tracks. He crouched into a hunters position and crept towards the smell. A twig cracked under his paws as he lifted off the ground, alerting his prey. The mouse scrambled out from under a leaf and ran for cover. Streampaw's claws landed on the mouse's tail and quickly killed it with a bite to the neck. He looked around, hoping that Shimmerpool had not noticed the crack, but knowing that she probably had. He sighed as he dug a small hole to bury te mouse in so he could retreve it later.
-
Shimmerpool laughed. "Find a ThunderClan cat, they taste better!" she called after him as he raced off. The deputy gave her apprentice a few minute's head start, then padded out after him, following his scent. For a bit she lost his trail, but caught up with him just as he gave the mouse the killing bite. Shimmerpool smiled to herself, but stayed silent. He wasn't supposed to know she was there.
-
Streampaw pushed the last of the dirt over the small mouse and started to search for more prey. He wandered around, sniffing the air and perking his ears. A second mouse scent bounced up to him. He took it in and determined it's direction, creeping towards it. A mouse, slightly larger than the last, was also on the hunt, looking for grains. Streampaw stalked it for a while, slowly getting closer one paw length at a time. Finally, he took off the ground and landed ontop of his new prey. His weight on the mouse broke it's tiny spine and Streampaw glowed inside. "Yessss" He purred, pleased this kill had been better than the last one. He started to dig the new hole, heart bursting with pride.
-
Shimmerpool followed her apprentice silently, keeping a sharp lookout for anything that would give away her position. Usually the out-of-shape she-cat wasn't very good at stealth at all. For her apprentice's sake, she did her best to watch silently. It took a lot of concentration to just stay hidden. Streampaw, on the other had, was doing fantastically. At this rate he could be a warrior very soon.
-
Streampaw smiled as he buried his prize and sniffed the air. 'Maybe I should get some fish.' He thought, wanting to show he could catch prey both on land and in water. He wandered around until he found a stream, not very big, but big enough to hold some fish. He sat over the water, making sure not to ast his shadow upon the water. Quick as a snake, Streampaws paw shot out and broke the waters surface. Unfortunaly, his paw came back up empty. "Mouse-dung!" He muttered under his breath. He moved upstream a few tail lengths and tried again. His paw connected with a small fish and Streampaw scooped it out of the water onto the stream bank. He killed it with a bite and savored the flavor in his mouth. He dug the third hole as he looked to the sky. "Hmmm..." He mumbled. "Time for one quick kill."
-
So maybe he wasn't perfect, but then again who was? Streampaw was ready to become a warrior. Perhaps even a little overdue. Maybe she would watch just one more kill. Then a battle assessment...And then a ceremony. She would have mentored her first apprentice into a warrior.
-
Streampaw pushed the fish into the hole and covered it with soil. "Ok, look for something impressive..." He mumbled, sniffing his way back into the forest. The sun was close to the middle of the sky. 'I guess there wasn't enough time.' Streampaw thought sadly, hanging his head. He trudged back and dug up his fish. He headed toward his first mouse when a smell other than fish faintly approched his nose. Streampaw set the fish down and started hunting the new animal, a vole. He spotted the vole and dropped into a crouch. He crept closer to his prey and got a good look at it. This poor vole had lost his eyes in a fight and was blind. Streampaw gasped inwardly as he looked on in horror. He tried to kill the vole quickly, but couldn't bring himself to kill the defenceless vole. He sighed and purposly stepped on a twig, creating an loud crack. The vole, hearing the twig, ran off into the bush. Streampaw sighed once again and retrieved his fish. He then collected his other prey and went to the meeting place, three kills in his jaws. He layer them out in an flat patch of grass, wondering if he was going to get in trouble for letting the blind vole go.
-
Shimmerpool was already waiting for him at the meeting spot, grooming her silky silver fur carefully. Luckily for Streampaw, she had returned to the meeting spot before he found the vole, and hadn't witnessed his act of mercy. She looked up as he approached and offered an encouraging smile. "Well done." the deputy purred, nodding to the prey he caught. "That will feed the Clan nicely tonight."
"Alright, now for the battle assessment." Shimmerpool stood up, shaking out her silver pelt. "Come attack me, and give it your all."
-
Streampaw breathed a sigh of relief when Shimmerpool didn't mention the blind vole. His relieved face turned into one of pride as his mentor praised his kills. "Thank you." Streampaw purred. He had nearly forgoten about the battle assesment until Shimmerpool told him it was time. He crouched in a battle pose and slowly drifted to the left, then bounced to the right and swung a sheathed claw towards Shimmerpool.
-
Shimmerpool jumped backwards, lashing her own paw out as she did so. She tried to hook one of Streampaw's legs to unbalance him. Her move was slow though; the deputy had gotten better at fighting as she trained Streampaw, but she was still drastically out of shape.
-
Ooc: Sorry about the wait. Final exams and such. :P
Streampaw quickly sidestepped Shimmerpools paw and jumped onto her backside. He tried to sink his teeth into the back of her neck - not enough to hurt, just enough to be felt.
-
(OOC: Yeah, I got them too. XP No problem!)
Shimmerpool felt Streampaw's weight on her back, followed by his teeth in her fur. The deputy dropped to the ground and rolled over, hoping to smother the apprentice below her. Then she jumped to her feet again and pranced away, out of reach. Already she was out of breath; this assessment wouldn't go on much longer.
