Swiftkit padded over to Chimerapaw shyly. She was a more laid back-cat at the moment and did not normally start conversations, instead she tended to wait for someone to talk to her. But she had decided a little while earlier that that would need to change, today she would be the one to start a conversation. She would always be a quieter, more laid-back cat but she needed to work on her shyness. So she walked over to the Thunderclan medicine cat and meowed, "h-hi Chimerapaw. What are you d-doing?"
Cottonkit was humming herself a little tune.
It wasn't complex, it consisted of a few sharps here and there, but that was about the end of its complexity - however, it was very catchy.
And she couldn't get the stupid thing out of her head. Hm hm hmmm. Hm hm hmmm. ARRGH.
The she-kit dropped to her side and groaned, her tail flicking half-heartedly. When she saw Swiftkit walking past, she had the idea that maybe they could play and the endless humming inside of her head would stop. Yes! Ideas! Wonderful!
Instantly perking up, the white kit followed Swiftkit. She walked over to where Chimerapaw was - and then she began to talk to him!
Oh that's low, she thought, her ears drooping a bit. But, this momentary despair didn't last long. Cottonkit sat right next to Swiftkit, her guilt-making intensity almost radiating off of her.
"Hello, Chimerapaw! Lovely weather we're having, eh?" she said after Swiftkit's stammering fit.
Snowkit hopped over to Chimerapaw with a smile on his face as he saw the Medicine Cat. The kit was nearly six moons old and he really wanted to be Chimerapaw's apprentice, not just a regular old warrior apprentice. The red tabby tom-kit had shown a lot of interest recently having training sessions with Chimerapaw and what not. "Hi Chimerapaw, how's it going," he asked formally as if they'd known each other forever, which in Snowkit's life it had been about two thirds of his life.
"Lovely weather," Chimerapaw purred. "So, Cottonkit, Swiftkit, Snowkit...Do you guys want to learn some herbs?"
"Sure," Snowkit agreed. "What herbs are you going to teach us about today?" He was very excited they were goign to be doing some work, but other kits being allowed to come along made him jealous and very upset.
"Poppy seeds," Chimerapaw mewed. He took out the said seeds from a dock leaf he was carrying. "This is for going to sleep so that they don't feel any wounds. Willow bark is used for less painful things." The red tabby's tail flicked to the gray bark.
"Oh, I see. Was it the stuff you gave um, what's her name, I forget when she had hurt her paw?" Snowkit asked remembering when he ahd been there before and some she-cat came in passed out with a hurt paw.
A dilute calico trotted out fo the nursery. Halcyonkit noticed a gathering of other kits around Chimerapaw. She hesitantly padded over. "Hi, what's going on?" she asked curiously. None of the kits looked hurt, so why would they be hanging around with the medicine cat?
"Hm." Cottonkit looked at the little black seeds and tilted her head. "Okay, so you'd use these for big wounds, like say... a fox bite? And willow bark for a scratch or something?" she asked, flicking her tail and smiling.
"I'm teaching herbs to anyone that wants to learn," Chimerapaw explained with a smile. The red tabby nodded at Snowkit. "That's right." At Cottonkit, he mewed, "Poppy is used for painful things or anyone that had trouble sleeping."
Cottonkit nodded. "Alright, I think I've got it." she grinned at the medicine cat.
Swiftkit nodded and meowed, "yep, that makes seance. What do you use for coughs and illnesses? Aren't borage and catmint some of the herbs you use for those?" Swiftkit found this interesting, she really liked the idea of being a medicine cat.
"oh. Cool, so it's okay if I stick around here?" Halcyonkit asked. These kits looked like they knew what they were doing. It did look interesting. She had smelled borage leaves before, being given to pregnant queens and nursing queens. "She-cats eat borage leaves too, right?" she asked.
"Yeah, queens in labor have borage to help them produce milk," Snowkit told the other kits trying to prove that he knew more then them. "Can't poppy seeds also be used when you fall out of a tree or something like that so if you have to perform surgery it won't hurt the patient?"
Swiftkit nodded, she confidence growing by the second. [b]"But borage also helps with fevers, it cools you down. Feverflew also helps with this. Oh, and I know that juniper berries help a stomach ach."/b]
"I had honey when I had a sore throat once. It helped." Cottonkit said, flicking her tail to try to prove that she knew just as much as the other kits.
Swiftkit smiled and meowed, "you can also add honey to fowl-tasting herbs that need to be eaten. You know, so kits will eat them."
"Mouse blood, too." Cottonkit said. "But that's for anyone. My mom had to eat bitter herbs once, and mouse blood was put on them to help keep 'em down." she frowned a little. "But... that's all I know." she blinked.
"I guess that's why I'm here though. I want to learn more." she grinned.
"I think that's why we're all here," Snowkit teased as he usually was the jokester of the group.
