[font=Calibri][size=10][color=black]The noise of fur shuffling made her attention divert back to Coal's now moving form. With the sun beginning to peek over the small mountain she felt her breath run cold but she didn't say anything just stared with a blank expression looking to the male for direction. Obviously she was more or less useless and had nowhere to go. That much was obvious. Clover's ears flattened and she barely moved her leg but pain shot up again through the tender muscles. She cursed under her breath and looked for more herbs with just her eyes, knowing the silence was dragging on.

Coal's eyes looked her over as he pondered in his head what he should do with her. It was obvious she was too injured to be an asset to the pack, but if Coal waited until she recovered who knows what they would have to fight off. The bear was only the beginning, and humans would probably be searching for their dog/wolf hybrids. Coal stood up, his lean muscles sore.
"Well, how you feeling?" he asked, his voice plain and straightforward. -

[font=Calibri][size=10][color=black]Turning her attention towards him wrinkled her nose as her icy blue eyes peered up at him "Dandy, just dandy," she murmured a bit bitterly. Watching get to his feet she longed to do the same. With her broken leg still outstretched propped herself in a sitting position. Clenching her jaw rose her back legs and two front legs with a slow tender painful manor. -
The corners of Coal's mouth turned downwards into a frown. "Someone's in a happy mood today." he muttered, purposely loud enough for her to hear. Not that he was a bundle of sunshine, but Coal figured that two bitter canines wouldn't get much done. His eyes flicked over to where she was struggling to get up and still maintain a cool disposition. "It's obvious you're in pain, why try to hide it?" he growled flatly.

[font=Calibri][size=10][color=black]Narrowing her eyes and she stood on three legs slightly wobbly Clover growled in an almost irritated manor "Because, if I allow myself the ability to show off my pain it allows me to drown. I prefer to swim," the icy blued eyed female turned her head away and back to the bushes with her ears flatten. After a few moments as she looked for the herb breathed out heavily knowing that he was the one who was still with her. "Sorry," she said a bit more maturely and slightly awkward. -
Coal shrugged but said nothing, sniffing the air distractedly. He wasn't trying to be rude, but a new scent had flooded the area; an unknown aroma that wasn't one Coal was too familiar with. It smelled like artificial herbs, unnatural and bitter. The jet black fur on Coal's back started to rise as he felt uneasiness clawing at his heart. His ears perked up and he stood rigid, trying to locate where the scent was coming from. Coal might not have been familiar with it, but every bone in his body was telling him it was trouble. Aside from the scent, nothing else seemed out of place. A gentle rustle of leaves here and there, and the occasional woodpecker; the sounds of the forest waking up. Still, Coal knew something was wrong.

[font=Calibri][size=10][color=black]A sudden gust of air made Clover sit still as the scent drifted her way and she glanced over only to see Coal's ebony fur stand on end. "You smell it too," she said factly as her ears pricked forward and her eyes bored through the green thrush. Deep down she knew it was no good but where would they go? Clover barely shifted uneasily, now itching to get out of the area. She never belonged to anyone and that was how she liked it. -
Coal only nodded in response, trying to identify the scent. He fixed his emerald gaze on Clover. "We need to get going. I'm not sure to where, but it isn't safe here," he said rather hurriedly. The wheels in his head were turning, trying to map out the safest place in these woods. Coal knew most of the forest like the back of his paw, he had lived there long enough to know, however there were still some areas that had been unexplored by his pack and therefore a mystery to him. Suddenly, he realized that Clover would not be as agile as she once was due to her injury. A cold sense of dread washed over him as he saw just how difficult their situation was.

[font=Calibri][size=10][color=black]She gave a stiff nod and knew that if they fell back it would be her fault. Clover could see the dread in his deep eyes and biting the inside of her maw, moved pitifully for her pride wasn't going to allow her to be at fault. "Lead the way," she barked quickly icy blue eyes penetrating the thrush. Ears flat and determination flat on her face would drag herself with only her front paws if she had to. -
Coal's ears twitched with interest, mainly because Clover had refused to become a bother because of her injury. With a grunt he nodded and raised his muzzle, locating the source of the scent. Turning in the opposite direction, he started padding onto a narrow path that was barely wide enough for one wolf. The tree created a shady canopy overhead, causing the path to look rather gloomy with its dim lighting, but Coal didn't mind. "Let's go," he said, taking the lead and only going a tiny bit slower than his usual pace. Somewhere in the back of his mind he was unconsciously challenging Clover, as if seeing how she could keep up and how long it would take for her to ask to slow down, if she did at all that is. He didn't do so with bad intentions, it was merely the natural instinct of a wolf.

[font=Calibri][size=10][color=black]She followed but as she saw the gloom laying over the path like a dark cloud she only showed the slightest bit of hesitance. Slowly did she make her way behind Coal who seemingly moved much faster. Not saying a word but narrowing her eyes picked up the pace with her three legged walking. Unstable, in pain and soon to be sore she only fell behind about the length of half a wolf but it was tiresome. Icy blue eyes slightly worried refused to give in and pushed forward. -
Coal continued to walk with a determined pace, not eager to have to face any humans. His green eyes darted back and forth from bush to bush anxiously. He could hear Clover following behind him, and he wondered if he should slow down. Sure, he wanted to get as far away from the danger as soon as possible, but a wolf that was too tired to move would be no help in case the humans caught up. Coal's paws decreased in speed, but he was still padding along the path fairly quickly. Ears alert, Coal could tell that prey was thriving in this area of the forest, and he suddenly realized he was hungry.

[font=Calibri][size=10][color=black]Getting tired quickly felt a rush of relief as she saw him slow down, thankful for his kindness even if it wasn't intended. Icy blue eyes alert but most of her focus on keeping her balance and hobbling. She ignored the smell of prey but she was getting awfully hungry. Shaking her head just the slightest pursued, quiet and trying to keep the strength she had left. -
After a while of walking down the path, Coal sniffed the air again, wondering how far away the humans, or whatever the scent was, were. As he had predicted, the scent was fading, being replaced by that of squirrels and robins. He veered of the path next a large oak tree that towered over them. There was a crook at the bottom of the tree where its overgrown roots made a small nest. It would have been cozy if the surrounding area wasn't so gloomy. "We'll take a break here," he told Clover, glancing back at her for the first time since they had started on the path.

[font=Calibri][size=10][color=black]She nodded stiffly wobbling past him to lean against the tree. Her icy eyes watching him as she did so as her tongue lolled out and her coat slightly wet from sweat. The sweat created through exhaustion and pain. Ears flat drifted her eyes away as she laid down next to the oak finally letting her muscles relax. Keeping her broken in the same position as it always had been. Clover didn't say anything mainly because she felt no need too, plus what was there to say?
