The seventeen-year-old girl sat curled up in the corner of the cage, away from the other slaves as she watched the people passing through the market, wondering if she'd ever get free of this iron trap. Her tangled brown hair fell over her violet blue eyes, hiding them form view as she shifted position. The chains around her wrists clinked as she moved, digging in until they drew blood, but she was used to it.
No one would buy her.

A young man, probably somewhere near nineteen years of age, looked over the slaves that were cramped in the cage. His pale green eyes wandered over the cage a few times. His long dark brown hair was pulled back into a short ponytail with the exception of a few strands that hung in his face. He had his arms crossed over his chest and his expression gave away his concentration. His eyes found a slave girl that was curled up apart from the others. "Her. I want that one over there," he said to whoever was selling the slaves while pointing out the girl.
-
The man selling the slaves nodded. "That one's $100, Sir," He said, in an annoyingly cheerful voice as the girl looked up at the man who'd pointed her out. She shifted slightly, ignoring the chains as they scraped against her wrists again.
-
He seemed to scowl slightly at the amount of money, but he didn't complain. He fished in his pocket for a moment before pulling out a roll of money which was the required amount. He handed it to the man after a moment. "Here you go." he said to the man.
-
"Thank you very much, Sir," The man said, taking the money and stuffing it into his pocket before opening the cage and taking hold of the right girl's chains. He tugged on them, and she was yanked to her feet, before he led her out of the cage and held out the chains to her new owner.
-
He nodded before he watched the man take the money, picking out the slave girl that he'd pointed out earlier. He took the chains as the man held them out to him, though he didn't yank on them as hard as the man had. "Come on," he said to the slave girl before he started walking.
-
She started walking as well, picking up her pace so that the chains wouldn't be pulled taut and dig in more. She didn't say anything, just glanced around for a moment before fixing her eyes ahead of her and followed.
-
He kept walking not looking at the slave girl. "Sorry, it'll be a bit of a walk," he said after a moment. He continued walking, remembering the route to his place or, to be more accurate, his father's place.
-
The girl didn't reply, used to staying silent. It was how they'd taught her, after all. She found herself feeling different emotions - Some relief, to be finally out of the cage and away from the slave seller, but some nervousness as she tried to think where they'd be going next.
-
After a long while of walking they came up to a large ranch. There was a large field that contained a couple of horses, a large stable, and a big house a little further away. He walked through the ranch gates and started to head towards a small looking house off the side. He opened the door and walked inside.
-
She glanced around as she walked, her dark eyes wide with curiosity. She hesitated as he walked inside the small house, before stepping inside.
-
The young man glanced back at her, chuckling softly at her wide-eyed look. He waited patiently inside the house when she hesitated. When she finally walked in he shut the door behind her. He walked into the small living room, towards the couch. He then placed her chains gently onto the couch. "Sit. I'll be back," he said before disappearing into another room.
-
She sat down, glancing around as the scars on her back stung with slight pain. She shifted her position a little, before turning back to glance around again.
-
He came back into the room carrying a pair of bolt cutters. "First things first: we'll need to get those chains off you," he said as he knelt down beside her.
-
She blinked, slightly surprised, but held her wrists still so that the chains wouldn't move around.
-
He began cutting into the chains carefully as she held out her wrists. "My father doesn't like his slaves to be... uncomfortable." He glanced up at the girl and smiled. [b]"I'm Liam."
-
She watched him cut into the chains, not looking up as she chose that moment to speak. "I'm Callika," She murmured, her voice carrying a faint foreign accent.
-
Liam nodded as she told him her name. He finished cutting into the chains and set them aside. He set the bolt cutters down and walked into the kitchen before coming out with some bread and water. He sat down next to Callika on the couch and handed her the bread and water. [B]"Here."
-
"Thanks you," Callika said quietly, taking the bread and water and hesitantly taking a sip of the water.
-
Liam nodded before gazing out the window. [b]"Usually my father sends me out to collect slaves and I bring them here so they can recover. Though don't expect that you won't be working."
