I would be his apprentice! :3
-
All right. Accepted. Should we start now, in this thread? Oh, and what's your cat's name?
-
My cat's name is Emberpaw.
-
Dashingsoul bounded through the forest, legs carrying him towards the clearing where his new apprentice would be waiting. He was excited. He had been grateful to RiverClan for accepting him, after dangerous events forced him to leave RadiantClan, the clan of his birth. He slowed as he neared the clearing. He walked with poise towards the area where Emberpaw sat. He knew he would have to set a bit of decorum at their first meeting, though inside he was bursting with anticipation.
He reached his new apprentice.
"Greetings, Emberpaw."
-
The pretty, pale ginger she-cat turned around and replied, "Hey Dashingsoul! What are we going to do today?" she aske excitedly.
-
"Today, we will be hunting. The first and most important skill in a warrior's arsenal. From hunting comes all the skills of fighting. Follow me."
Dashingsoul began to walk. He gradually sped up to a trot, keeping a medium pace so his apprentice would be working, but able to keep up. He stopped deeper into the forest where some grasses grew.
"Keep still, I smell a vole. Slowly adopt my position. Any sudden moves, and we'll lose the catch."
Dashingsoul crouched into the grass, legs ready to release their coiled energy. His front paws prepared to strike. -
Ivypaw matched his stance, but went at a very slow pace, terrified that she would make a noise.
-
"Relax. Take a deep breath. Your muscles will seize up if you're tense. Whenever you're ready, pounce. I don't think this vole is going anywhere for awhile. It looks like it's found a nice clump of berries."
Dashingsoul resumed a watchful gaze at the vole, ready to warn his apprentice if it decided to move.OOC: Don't you mean Emberpaw, not Ivypaw? And I'm in for the night. We can pick this up whenever. I'll be on and offline all through tomorrow. I plan to be pretty active.
-
OCC: Yeah, sorry, Ivypaw is my other cat. And alright, same here.
-
OOC: Good morning.
-
OCC: Morning! :3
Emberpaw took a deep breath and relaxed. She was light on her toes, as she edged closer to the vole. She spotted it, and pounced. Emberpaw held it down with her paws as it squirmed and squealed, and then she bit down on its neck and killed it. -
"Well done, Emberpaw, well done! You can eat some of that now if you want. You've earned it. Now, I believe the next important thing for a RiverClan cat would be fishing. Follow me."
He began to walk towards the river that ran through their territory, scouting for a good place to fish from.
-
The small she-cat buried her catch for later, and followed Dashingsoul to the river.
-
Dashingsoul found a patch of soft reeds which would offer plenty of stable footing. He dug his back paws into the dirt.
"Now. The nice thing about fish is they're harder to scare off. Just wait until one swims by, and..."
Dashingsoul lashed out with his front paw and caught a fish. It flopped around on land for a few seconds before Dashingsoul killed it with a hard bat to the head.
"Timing's a bit tricky. It's best to move just before the fish reaches your position. Give it a try," he said, backing off a bit to let his apprentice use his space. -
Emberpaw reluctantly padded up to the water. She waited a couple moments, and a small fish swam across her line of sight. She slowly lifted her paw, and hit the water, but her timing was late. When she brought her paw back, the fish was gone.
-
"That's okay. Here, come up close and watch me again."
He walked back up next to Emberpaw, nudging her gently to one side. He prepared to strike. A fish began to swim along. He struck, missed, lost his balance and fell into the river. A few moments later he emerged, shivering and spitting out water.
"Grrr. It's cold this morning. Sorry about that. Don't do what I just did. I leaned too far forward. Now, watch my timing."
He waited for another fish. When it was about half a foot away, he struck. The fish had no time to swim away, and was caught.
"Take that one down, or it will flop back into the water. When you're ready to try catching again, go ahead." -
Emberpaw quickly pounced onto the fish, and bit the top of its head hard, and held it down as it slowly bled out. When it stopped flopping, she returned to the shore, and waited for another fish. As one swam by, she didn't hesitate. She raked her paw through the water, and slapped it out. It was hooked under her claws, and became stuck. She slammed it down on the ground, and killed it the same way that she did with he other fish.
-
"Good. Much better. Now, for obvious reasons, a warrior is no mere hunter. We must always be prepared to defend our clan. I will now teach you fighting. To avoid...the same dousing I just received, we should probably move away from the river. Let's go back to the clearing. It should give us some room."
Dashingsoul waited for a moment. He decided to test his apprentice's speed. He took off at full blast for the clearing, which was still only a relatively short distance away. He looked behind him occasionally to make sure Emberpaw was keeping pace.
-
Emberpaw kept a steady pace with her warrior. Her tiny body allowed her to quickly dive under objects in order to keep up with him.
