  • Woodkit gulped, thinking of his mother who was never very good with herbs. He thought of her taking poppy seeds and putting him to sleep. It made him sad to think about but that's what happened. He made a mental note to tell his mother all about what he learned today so he could inform her about these things he was sure she didn't know.

"What about deathberries? I've heard that often cat's eat them on accident and it kills them. How can a tiny little berry kill a big cat like us?"

He inquired, truly worrying about his mother now. What if she jsut happened along a little red berry that looked so tempting to eat? Mommy. he thought.

[align=center][size=8][font=times new roman][color=white]Capricornkit nodded at Woodkit's question. It was a good question, like he had thought, one he had not thought of. He blinked at Cloverleaf's answer, shocked of how the poppy seeds could effect the kits so..horribly, "Are the poppy seeds too strong for them?" the black kit spoke aloud, not actually meaning to. He closed his mouth after, blinking those dull, green eyes of his. It was horrible to think kits could die in the womb, and that could kill the mother. It was..a horrible answer, not in the way the answer was put in the wrong way, but the thought of how a tiny seed could affect a lot of kittens, and especially a full grown cat so greatly.

At Woodkit's question, Capricornkit tilted his head, "I think the juices are what contain the poison, though I've never heard of anyone in Hawkclan eating one by accident."
  • Applepaw blinked, looking at the Medicine Cat with round eyes. She does know she's talking to Kits, right? Applepaw flicked her ears, wondering if it was ok for the Kits to hear such things. At least she'd explained, and not just said 'oh, cause the kits will die and so will the mother'. That would have been awful... Applepaw realized she had stood up, and placing her bottom on the ground, looked around. None of the youngsters seemed too devastated, and besides, death was part of life, she guessed, but still...

  • Catkit gasped for breath her long line of herbs in her brain, "Borage, Burdock, catnip, cobwebs, Coltsfoot, Dock, Dried Oak Leaf, Goldenrod, Honey, Horsetail, Juniper, Lavender, Marigold, Mousebile, Poppy, Rush, Stinging nettle, Thyme, Traveling herbs, watermint, wild Garlic," She added the two unused herbs, "Yew- or Deathberries-, and Nightshade." Being the oldest of the two sisters in her half deceased family she had to give her mother herbs to give birth to Zebrakit, thankfully she did nothing wrong. really while her mother had Zebrakit in her belly she taught Catkit most of the herbs shee had known as a kit.

  • "Because," she began to answer Woodkits' question. "Poppyseeds are used to sooth pain and make cats go to sleep. If the effects of the seeds are powerful enough, they could not only put the queen to sleep for a while, but also make her kits go to sleep inside the womb aswell. But they probably will never awake, unlike their mother," Cloverleaf explained, taking in a breath. "And if the queen gives birth to the dead kits, it can make her very ill, and maybe even kill her."

"Thats true. Bokenheat nearly died from sorow and pain until she found me." Peregrinekit inquired.

  • Corona glanced towards Woodkit, putting her words together to answer his question. "Deathberries are an extremely poisonous red berries, therefore, there might be no cure within the Deathberry poison. All parts are extremely poisonous. Because the toxin causes convulsions and paralysis." The grey-blue she-cat mewed with confidence. Her tail wrapped around her paws, hoping she didn't scare the kits. She used an extremely soft voice, honey-like and overwhelming. Corona glanced up at Cloverleaf with her sharp yellow eyes.

"Here are some herbs I know. My mum taught me a bit before she died: Thyme, Mouse bile, Tansy, Watermint, Catnip, Wild garlic, Yarrow, Horsetail, Lavender, Juniper berries, Marigold, Cobwebs, Comfrey, Dock, and Coltsfoot." Mewed Corona. She thought about some other herbs then added some, including the herbs that she had heard Cloverleaf explain while coming into camp. "Yew, Deathberries, Nightshade, Chervil, and Borage leaves.

  • Applepaw added, feeling proud that she knew the fact, "And if someone eats a Deathberry, also known as Deadly Night Shade, they must immediately eat some kind of herb to make them throw up the poisons, like Yew or Yarrow." Now that she'd said it, she wasn't sure if she was correct. She added in her head: Or Snakeroot...

  • Cloverleaf smirked a bit at the disgust and fear on the kits' faces. If they were freaked out by that, then she would never be able to get to the part of the lesson she wanted to go to.
Then, at their questions of deathberries, her smirk became even bigger. Man, these kits were a little demented, weren't they? When she was a kit, all she thought about was chasing butterflies and playing with her littermates. Not the effects of Herbs and berries.
"Well, their is a posion in the berries that his very dangerous to cats. But, as far as I know, it only effects cats." she told them, glancing at a chirping bird that was picking at the ground for worms at the edge of the camp. "Watch this," getting to her paws, the calico turned around and walked into the medicine cat den. After a few moments, she walked out of the den with a bundled-up leaf in her mouth. Slowly, she walked over to the bird, putting down the leaf a few feet away from the bird. When placed on the ground, the leaf opened to reveal a small pile of red berries. It took the bird a while to notice the red food, but when it did it stopped pecking at the ground and fluttered over to it. It pecked at one of the small berries for a few seconds before it picked it up in it's beck and gobbled it down.
After consuming the berry, the bird noticed the cats. Quickly, it flapped it's wings and flew off.
"See," Cloverleaf meowed to the kits as she sat back down. "It didn't hurt that bird at all."
Then, she glanced at the one kit whom had asked about the poppy seeds, and nodded.

  • Chasingkit watched as the bird flew off, completely unharmed. 'So, something in the berries possess a harmful toxin to cats? That's why you have to use yarrow to get it out, right? I wonder . . .' She murmured, completely forgetting about the other kits around her. This was way too cool to even think about the others. The more she thought about it, the more she wanted to know. What was that toxin in the berry that made them so harmful to cats and cats only? It was surprising, but what was more surprising was that cats sometimes were stupid enough to eat them sometimes. Giving off a slight smirk, Chasingkit delved deeper into her thoughts, gazing off into the distance as she spaced out, forgetting all about the lesson for just a few moments. And then finally, she snapped back into reality, as if something had scared her out of her fantasy world.

  • Applepaw watched the bird fly away in amazement, unaware that Deathberries only harmed felines only seconds before. She made a Mental Note of the lesson, determined to use the knowledge some time in the future. She looked back to Cloverleaf, and wondered how the Medicine Cat had figured that neat little trick out... Ignoring the questions produced rapidly in her head, Applepaw curled her tail around her paws and glanced over the herbs before Cloverleaf once again. The ones she recognized, but didn't know the names of, seemed to be mocking her. Applepaw's ears flattened, and she looked up to Cloverleaf for anything the she-cat had to say. Finally, she asked, "If some cat catches that bird as prey, will it be harmful to eat?"

[align=center][size=8][font=times new roman][color=white]Capricornkit watched Cloverleaf disappear into the Medicine cat den before she came out with the bundled up leaf. He blinked curiously. What was she hiding in that leaf? It had been obvious to the others, probably, but the kit was still curious and unsure. He couldn't read minds, so he had no idea what was up the medicine cat's sleeve.

He watched her set it down a few feet from the bird, his eyes instantly planting on the bird to see what happened. The red berries..death berries. As the bird ate one, his eyes widened. That wasn't fair! How come the bird didn't die unlike the cats? It just wasn't fair to the small tom-kit. He gave a frowned, displeased to see the bird unaffected, rolling his shoulders, "Lucky bird," he mumbled, turning back to look at Cloverleaf, "So, it only affects cats," he echoed softly.

"So the only cure is yarrow and yew? Is there a way to make yourself immune to the toxins?"
  • Willowkit smiled as she saw Cloverleaf teach them. She really liked it here, being taught about medicine and herbs. This was her dream, and she enjoyed every bit of it. She hoped she could do it forever, and become Cloverleaf's apprentice.

  • Peregrinekit's tail twitched excitedly. He watched the bird go to the sky in awe.

  • Woodkit glanced at Applepaw. "You would think not because I don't ever eat the intestines of an animal. I only eat the actual meat, so I wouldn't think it'd be harmful for a cat to eat that bird." the lilac tom answered back. He had wanted an answer from Cloverleaf but i guess as long as the answer was right, it didn't matter, did it?

Green eyes passed over every cat until he came back to Cloverleaf. "Have you ever had to give a cat Yew or Yarrow or Snakeroot to get the poison out of them?"

  • Corona shifted her weight slightly to get comfortable on her paws and gaze up at Cloverleaf as she preformed the neat trick. She wondered how she'd got that trick from. Flickering her white tipped tail, her paws shuffled slightly as her bright yellow eyes glowed with excitement, awaiting a question or anything else. Corona noted this and pasted it on the side of the remembrance part of her brain. She was glad that she had such good memory. The she-cat sat tall, tilting her head to the side while the sun shown on her pelt. Why did it did such harmful effects to cats? She didn't really know how to answer that question, but probably her mother would. Corona smiled as she ignored all of the other kits and apprentices and paid attention to Cloverleaf. She then nodded to Capricornkit.

  • Catkit nodded, "So it can only affect Twolegs and cats?" The tall blue calico she-kit was very happy and joyce but as if she could read a mind, she walked up to Cloverleaf, "Why are they all talking about Deathberries? Juniper and spear mint tastes so much better."
When Cloverleaf went to get the Deathberries, Zebrakit quickly dashed out of the way and into the corner where she could still watch her big sister.

Peregrinekit looked at him. "Why do you have to be a snob?" he asked distortedly.

  • "We're not sure about twolegs, but it could possibly kill them." Mewed Corona. The grey-blue she-cat was very smart for a newly made apprentice such as her. She puffed her white flecked chest out while one of her dainty paws were up and in the air as she watched Cloverleaf once more. Corona was totally focused, and would hope to be more than just a warrior in HawkClan. She could, if she really and actually could. But it would take time to do so. Corona flickered her tail and watched with curious and focused yellow eyes.
