  • Flamepool stopped and gazed at Shadowpaw. She walked over and ran her tail along his flank. "Cheer up." She meowed softly. "I'm sure you'll get a new mentor. Until then I can train you with Winterpaw.."

  • Flamepool smiled at her apprentices face. He seemed to like the idea of training with Shadowpaw.

  • Shadowpaw smiled.
    "Really?" he meowed.

  • Shadowpaw purred and flicked his tail.

  • Flamepool purred. "Let's get back to training shall we?" Then she stood up, and started to head back towards the river. She looked back to make sure the apprentices were following.

  • Shadowpaw padded next to Streampaw. He smiled at Flamepool.

  • Shadowpaw yawned, his eyes closing as he did. He felt a chill and he froze, looking around. Stormtail? he thought. He saw Stormtail's outline in some ferns. His eyes were kind.

  • Flamepool stopped at the river and turned around to see the startled apprentice. " Is something wrong?" She asked Shadowpaw.

  • "I told you it wasn't your fault. People will trust you and you will grow to be a great warrior, but you must let the past stay in the past." Shadowpaw stared at Stormtail as he spoke.
"No, I can't let it go! It was my fault." he cried. Stormtail padded forward and laid his tail on Shadowpaw's flank.
"It'll be okay." Shadowpaw bowed his head and cried.

  • Stormtail stared into Shadowpaw's eyes.
"You must look forward and be all you can be." Shadowpaw looked at Flamepool and saw she was confused. Stormtail licked between Shadowpaw's ears and disappeared. Shadowpaw wiped his face with his white paw and half smiled.

  • Shadowpaw shook his head.
"Uh, no. It wasn't you guys. I, uh, was remembering my mentor. Talking about it must have triggered the memories." he meowed.

  • Flamepool nodded. She stared into the river. "Now show me how you fish." She ordered the apprentices.

  • She crouched by the river, not letting her shadow cross over. A flash of silver caught her eyes. She swiped, sending out a good sized fish, followed by the sparkles of water. She jumped onto it, biting its head, and it stopped moving. She laughed a bit. "When I first did this, I smashed the whole fish!"
