Maidenpaw nodded, padding with a light pace back towards camp. She was glad she finally had company...and maybe a friend.

Drowningpaw followed, tail flicking happily.
-
Maidenpaw purred and trotted back, depositing the prey on the fresh-kill pile.
-
Drowningpaw did the same, spitting feathers out of his mouth and wrinkling his nose in distaste.
-
"Seems to me you don't like birds," Maidenpaw remarked.
-
"Just their feathers," the blue tabby replied, gray eyes crossed to look at a feather perched stubbornly on his snout.
-
Maidenpaw swatted at the feather, making it fall to the ground. "Glad you're not a ThunderClan cat? They eat birds on a daily basis," meowed Maidenpaw.
-
Drowningpaw stuck his tongue out at the idea.
"Thanks," he meowed in reference to the dispatching of the feather. "I can't imagine that. Must be disgusting. No wonder they smell so bad." -
Maidenpaw laughed, "You're right."
-
He smirked.
-
"So, who's your mentor?" questioned Maidenpaw.
-
He shrugged.
"I don't have one. I just tag along on other apprentices' training sessions, if they'll let me." -
"Me too," Maidenpaw meowed almost wistfully. "I just wish someone would actually care for apprentices like us."
-
Drowningpaw shrugged.
"I can take care of myself," he meowed, flicking his tail. -
"Me too," Maidenpaw meowed, "It's just other cats laugh at me for not having a mentor. T-They say I'm too weak for any cat to take me as an apprentice."
-
Drowningpaw shook his head.
"I think you're plenty strong enough," he meowed. "Cats just want to drag others down so they can be on top." -
"I know," Maidenpaw meowed, "But I'm just wondering if what they're saying is true."
-
"`Course it's not," the tom meowed. "You're a pretty good hunter, aren't you?"
-
"I suppose," Maidenpaw said doubtfully. "Are you?"
-
"You tell me," he meowed, flopping onto his back and stretching. [b]"You just saw me at work.''
