• Dawnpaw trotted quietly through the undergrowth in the Deep Forest. Her tail was lifted just level with her body as not to drag it. She placed every pawstep carefully, and didn't make a sound. She finally reached the little clearing she'd been serching for so she turned and waited to hear the crashing sound that signified Phantompaw's approch. She hoped he'd gotten better...if not then they'd have a long way to go.

  •

Following close in her footsteps was the faithful Phantompaw, who's gait was, of course, accompanied with many stumbles and crashes. It was such a contrast to Dawnpaw's well placed steps, which were silent, or indeed very close to it. He grinned at her as she turned around."Ah, here we are again. Hunting.", he meowed, sighing."Shall we get started?" Opening his jaws to take in the scents, his glands managed to detect a fresh scent on the edges of his senses, but it was hard to tell exactly what it was. He mindlessly began stalking towards this 'thing'. His sight caught it a little late, and Phantompaw was surprised that the rabbit hadn't run away. The ginger tabby quickly ducked behind a tree in a flash of orange, breathing as lightly as he could manage. He might need Dawnpaw's help on this...he'd heard that rabbits were, in fact, the hardest land prey to catch.

  • Dawnpaw sighed, shaking her head and stifling a giggle when Phantompaw finally crashed into the clearing. She watched him silently, hoping he'd scent the rabbit before it saw him. Luckily, he did. She crept around on its other side, lifting her tail high above the bush and flicking it so Phantompaw knew to move in. If he did a good job, he'd chase it right into her paws.

  • Phantompaw nodded to her, slowly as not to scare off the prey, and began closing in. His paws moved with surprising grace ( we are talking about Phantompaw, here ) as he sprinted towards the rabbit. It spurred to alert and its eyes were glazed with terror; the thing ran directly into Dawnpaw's path.

  • Dawnpaw lunged at the Rabbit, her teeth sinking into it's neck. She felt it go limp in her jaws, dropping it to gape at Phantompaw. "Where did all that non-clumsiness come from!" she purred excitedly, picking up the rabbit and bringing it over to him.

  • Only a few seconds and the catch was theirs. He watched her as she dropped it on the earth and promptly commented on his grace."Heheh, don't look at me. It just happened.", he laughed, giving her a humorously dubious look. He was glad it happened. Phantompaw was skeptical on the idea, but maybe he was learning to shake off his klutziness... that would be the day."Shall we continue?" The ginger apprentice scraped a hole in the ground and nosed the pale rabbit into it. CAWCAwCawcaw... The young brute started a bit as the chatter of a bird reached his apricot hued ears; for a moment he was frozen. Why? It sounded so ominous... and then his eyes widened with fear and his ears simultaneously flipped onto the back his head. A massive shadow loomed over him, with gleaming, beady eyes. A badger. Sh**. "RUN!" The words were out and he was off, legs twisting in franticness as he tried to sprint away. There was no way they could win this battle. No way... he hoped Dawnpaw was at his heels. A sick feeling rose in his stomach. What if he'd just left her there to fend for herself? What if she was trapped? But against his will, he kept running. Survival nstinct, oh, it was a strong thing.

OOC | Hope you don't mind if I bring a random badger in xD.

  • OOC: Don't mind at all ;D I'm gonna make him fight for her, hehe

Dawnpaw's eyes widened as a badger lumbered into the clearing. She started to pelt after Phantompaw, but a large paw slammed into her chest. The force of the badger's blow sent her flying back into a tree, knocking the air from her lungs. She struggled to her paws, seeing the giant thing lumbering towards her, baring long sharp teeth. "Phatnompaw!" she screeched loudly, her ears pinning back on her head. She was sure she was going to die...goodbye Phantompaw...hello Starclan.

  • OOC | heheh, aw, poor Phantom, has to fight a badger all by himself :D Okay, which is better: Phantomwind, Phantomtrill, Phantomwhine, or Phantomshriek? ( I'm having trouble deciding what to name him, as you can tell x3 )

BIC | His paws tangled endlessly until he finally halted to a complete stop to sort out his mess of legs. Then he heard her scream."N-NO!", he wailed, flipping around to view the scene he had left behind, expecting to see Dawnpaw's limp body tattered and torn... but not yet. There was still time; the ginger tabby sped towards the beast, claws extending. This energy, it was all produced by anger. He lept onto its back before it had time to turn from Dawnpaw, and he instantly began clawing at its face."Dawnpaw! Run!" The brute shook back and forth, to and fro, side to side, all in effort to shake off this nuisance that was Phantompaw.

  • OOC: Maybe...it depends on how Dawnpaw feels about this -confers with Dawnpaw-

Dawnpaw shook with fear as the Badger got closer, she knew any attack from her on it wouldn't help. She sqeezed her eyes shut, waiting for the intense pain. Insted there was a roar from the beast and a yowl for her to run. She snapped her eyes open to see Phantompaw, her clumsy, akward little Phantompaw, clawing the beast like a warrior...for her. She ran, but not towards camp and not very quickly. She ran towards the Badger, clawing its sides so Phantompaw could get off without the badgers large teeth being a threat to him.

"Move Phantompaw." she hissed, panting hevily. Her side was stained with blood, the side that had hit the tree. It had tore up her side pretty well, and it hurt like all heack but she couldn't let Phantompaw fight alone....not against a badger. The Badger swung its great head towards her and she jumpped back just in time to avoid its large teeth..YIKES!

  • OOC | So what'd Dawnpaw think? xD

BIC | With one last lash towards the badger's face, Phantompaw lept off the brute and landed in a whimpering heap, probably something that would only ever happen to Phantompaw. A cat not landing on his feet, ha. As he scrabbled to his paws, he spotted the crimson infesting Dawnpaw's side, and gaped for a few seconds, thus he was late to dodge the badger's swipe. It raked his hide and split it open, spilling blood. He gritted his teeth to fight off the pain, and began running."Dawnpaw! Hurry!", he yowled, an edge of hurt in his voice. It wasn't a winning battle. All they could do was run...

  • OOC: She decided to help him ;D

Dawnpaw watched as the badger tore at Phantompaw's flank, biting its ear hard before she let go. She fell to the ground in a rather uncordinated heap and began running after Phantompaw. The badger had become bored with them and it stalked off, unhappy about missing a would be meal. She caught up to Phantompaw quickly, passing him from time to time before slowing down to match his pace. Keep running, get to camp.

OOC: I'll make a thread in the Medicine Cat's den for them

  • OOC | Alright. ^^

BIC | Phantompaw was still pumped with adrenaline; it felt like he had to move or else something bad would happen. But he eventually managed to slow himself down, and when he stopped, the tom finally got to regain his breath. When Dawnpaw kept up the pace, though, he heaved a tired sigh and sped after her. Now that he wasn't panicking, he could feel the sting on his hide... a visit to the medicine cat's den would be nice.
