    "That's you, yes?" Dawnflower couldn't see through his licks. "Why are you licking me?"

    "No I don't, I washed when I got here. Really, why are you licking me?" Dawnflower meowed.

    "Wait, Sandclaw, don't go. I love your company." Dawnflower smiled.

    Nightstar walked up to them. "Dawnflower, I think that you know what. It is obvious that you two like each other. Everyone in the camp has noticed and the rumor is spreading like a wild fire!"

    Nightstar laughed as her kit, Amberkit, ran up to Sandclaw and sang,"Sandclaw and Dawnflower sitting in a nest. L-I-C-K-I-N-G. First comes love, then comes mates, then comes some kittens in a mossynest!" Then Amberkit turned to her mom. "I like Sandclaw!," she squeaked. "Can he be my mentor?"

    dawnflower smiled and licked Sandclaw's ear. " I do like you, Sandclaw." she purred with warmth

    Sandclaw felt uncomfortable with Nightstar and Amberkit staring at him. His ears felt hot and his pelt prickled. He stayed silent and looked at his paws.

    Amberkit left to go and play with Smokekit.


    Nightstar left and went to camp with Amberkit to check on her kits.

    Sandclaw didn't know what to say. His pale and ginger fur was all ruffled, but shiny. His blue eyes stared at the ground. The deputy waited for Dawnflower to say something.
