Molepaw bounded up the ravine after Glisteningheart,
pausing with each jump to catch his balance since he
didn't have his tail to help him. It felt good to go out
hunting. Sure, he might have a little more trouble, but
at least it would keep him distracted from his thoughts.

  • [font=comic sans ms][color=blue]Glisteningheart noticed Molepaw having trouble, and waited patiently for him.
"There's a claw hold just above your left fore paw," Glisteningheart mewed, not wanting to let the tom struggle. As the apprentice landed beside her, she padded towards the forest, and opened her jaws to let in the prey scents. She noticed a vole a few tail-lengths away, and dropped into a crouch, stalking forward stealthily.
Just a little more.... Now! Glisteningheart pounced on the vole neatly and killed it with a swift bite to the neck. Holding the vole tightly in her jaws, Glisteningheart dropped it and buried it. She decided, just because they're on a patrol, doesn't mean he should keep back on his training.
"Molepaw," Glisteningheart mewed to the brown tom a few feet away. "Tell me, what can you smell?"

He wasn't very happy that the she-cat had told him exactly
where to put his paws (he liked to work on his own without
any help, thank you very much), but he bit his tongue and
just followed her. When he was asked what he could smell,
he opened his jaws a bit to test the air before replying,
"Mouse. And a faint trace of rabbit."

  • [font=comic sans ms][color=blue]"Very good," Glisteningheart praised, smiling. She padded slowly into the deeper forest, and kept tasting the air for signs of prey. Looking around, nothing seemed out of place. Nodding in satisfaction, she tasted the air again, and the rabbit trail that Molepaw mentioned seemed to get stronger. Flicking her tail as she noticed the rabbit, she let Molepaw get this one. After all, she didn't want to do all the hunting and leave Molepaw out. That was rude, and some cats used to do it to her, and she remembered how it felt. It didn't feel very nice.

Molepaw dropped into the crouch his mentor had shown
him and carefully made his way towards the rabbit. When
he was just behind it, he pounced on top of it and bit its
neck before it could make a noise.
