Raiden glanced down at his smaller friend. Frowning, he squeezed his eyes shut and tried to describe the Astral Plane. "It's never-ending darkness...but, not a bad darkness. It's like...the kind of darkness where you know you're safe. Warm, safe...nothing can come from the shadows if it is just one big shadow. I don't really see anything, but I hear a voice...in my head. She talks to me - sometimes just conversation...but lately with these messages."
Bringing in a bad one.

"...That's a lot like where I go," said Felicis. "Maybe it is the same place. The place beyond this world. This world is very small. It's so small compared to everything else that exists. When I dream, I meet Calla in a darkness that surrounds, but that is also so full of light. It is lights in a giant shadow, instead of the other way around. I think it means that before there was anything else, there was darkness."
-
Rhythmicpaw shook her head slowly in her corner. No wonder half the cats these two toms knew thought they were crazy - they were. "Woah, and y'all see stuff like this?" She asked in disbelief, raising an eyebrow at the toms.
-
Felicis looked over at her. "Yes." He was no longer afraid of being called crazy. He realised he had found a deep peace and enlightenment from his dream experiences, and being called names couldn't ever make him regret it.
-
"That's... that's pretty cool. I wish I had dreams about stuff like that. Calla, you said her name was?" Rhythmicpaw whistled low, more out of admiration than amusement. "All I dream about is those dumb monsters."
-
"...Calla, yeah. What monsters?" Felicis had a totally different view of monsters. What she said riveted him to her words pretty quickly.
-
The apprentice's brow scrunched up with confusion. How could a cat, how could even a kit not know what a monster was? "Y'know, it's the big, loud, bad smelling things that walk on the Thunderpath. Part of the Thunderpath seperates Thunderclan from us."
-
"Thunderpath...I heard of them, yes," said Felicis. "I didn't see it when we were coming here. I guess I didn't come from the right direction. I never saw a twolegs before either...These monsters, what do they look like?"
-
"Well, they're all different, I guess sorta like cats. But most of the time, they're like big, bright, shiny boxes on wheels that the Twolegs drive around in. They give off this awful stench - and you definately don't want to run in front of one." Rhythmicpaw's hazel gaze flickered momentarily to her hind legs, but returned to Felicis in the same second. "I've never really looked at one up close, though."
-
Raiden crinkled his nose at the thought of a monster. He'd never seen one, but that was something he'd heard about. Maybe. Or maybe that was just another crazy dream he had formulated. Either way, it was dangerous and he certainly didn't want to tussle with one. "Monsters sound horrible...how do you fight them?"
-
To Felicis they sounded almost as unworldly as the places he went to in his dreams nowadays. Yet they were juxtaposed here, which made it all the stranger. "They seem like something to avoid, not fight. Like coyotes, or mountain lions or raccoons."
-
"But you gotta know how to fight 'em if they catch you!" Raiden insisted. He didn't want to view it as a complete miss. One shot and you're dead? That wasn't very fun.
-
"But the powerful predators...they're a part of the forest, and life," said Felicis. He sounded like a kit way beyond his moons, but in fact he was older than he looked. "They cannot always be fought. You just have to learn to live with them and keep safe. Think about it...whatever they are, they have been around a while, yes? And have not destroyed us."
-
Rhythmicpaw blinked in confusion at Felicis' statement, trying to sort it out in her mind. "Er, yes... what he said. You can't really fight 'em." Not that I'd ever want to, anyways... The apprentice thought, twitching her whiskers.
-
"But if we don't fight them, what happens when they catch us? I mean, are we just going to roll over and die?" Raiden asked, lowering his ears. He didn't ever want to be in that situation.
-
"Maybe they are not after us so badly," said Felicis. "Not everything more powerful than us must be defeated. Only if that is the only way we can survive."
-
Raiden lowered his head slightly, contemplating the idea. "But if we coexist in peace, why do we lose so many? My family was pretty badly damaged by some cougars..." Yeah. Damaged. He'd be willing to bet that about half his family had been killed or mutilated by cougars. They didn't want to live peacefully, so they needed to learn how to fight the cougars.
-
"...You too? There was a cougar lurking around our place too last year. But that was before I was born and it never killed any of us." Felicis frowned. "Sorry that happened to you."
-
"I don't know!" Rhythmicpaw gasped, letting out a long sigh. So. Many. Questions. "I really don't know."
-
Raiden nodded. "Some cougars killed a lot of my family and they haven't left yet," he explained. They seemed to be everywhere. Maybe they were multiplying? Perhaps...they would be the danger to the Clans, instead of a literal poison?
