Dawnpaw hopped into the Medicine Cat's den, her twisted paw held high above the ground. it hurt to look at it, hoping it was just twisted and not broken. "Hello?" Morningpaw called out.

Strawpaw, having been kept awake by a very persisitant nightmare, jumped when Dawnpaw hobbled in. The recovering apprentice cowered in her unmade nest, even though she knew it was just a fellow apprentice. Her bloody cobwebs, old and smelly now, hung from her mostly healed wounds. She stared wide-eyed at Dawnpaw over her tail, her imagination turning the apprentice into the rogue who had torn off half her paw.

"Hi," Eternitykit called from the shadows of the medicine cat den. Peering around to make sure the coast was clear, he slunk out of the darkness with Citruspaw behind him. "What's wrong? Chancepaw isn't in, a-and me and Citruspaw were friends with Wishingwell. We know some of the herbs... and we're gonna help you."
Citruspaw nodded, her calico fur looking long and windblown. She was large for her age and quite beautiful, but her pale green eyes did not meet the apprentices;. Instead, she twirled her paw in the herbs at her feet. She had hastily collected them from her and Eternitykit's combined knowledge. The two friends had agreed that a medicine cat was needed - and maybe they could help. Training wasn't going well for the she-cat apprentice, and it was nice to work beside her best friend again.

Dawnpaw took one look at the pair and made her decision. "I think I'll take my chances with my paw like this...you're only a kit Eternitykit and neither of you have had any proper training....where is Chancepaw andyways!?" she mewed suspiciously, withdrawing her paw from sight of the two untrained cats. She didn't want them to hurt her more on accident.
The blue grey she cat looked at Strawpaw, the soon to be warrior smiling softly at her. "Calm down, Strawpaw. It's only me...Dawnpaw. Your fine." she mewed, seeing the fear on her face.
-
<blockquote>
"They're gone," Eternitykit mewed more firmly. His gray-blue eyes stood his ground, meeting his counterparts. He showed them the herbs at his friend's foot. "Your paw's twisted. We can give you something to make the pain go away, even if it just is for now."
He took a long stalk of dried poppy, shaking it slightly to reveal three black beads - poppyseeds. They would aid in releaving the cat of pain. Eternitykit's eyes stayed on her paw, twisted and locked in a somewhat familiar position.
Citruspaw's mouth quirked into a smile as the soft calico moved forward. Her eyes did not meet the cat's but instead rested on the paw. "My mother did that while out hunting... It's a sprain from what I could see... not broken... poppyseeds would do you good... for now."
</blockquote>
TC has no medicine cat, so you can take your chances with them or do nothing. ^ ^ They have experience though.
-
Strawpaw squeaked, but uncurled herself. Yes, just Dawnpaw. And some kits. "She was supposed to change my cobwebs... I haven't seen her... y-you sure she's gone?" the calico whispered, crawling over to Dawnpaw. Her fur fluffed up and she started shaking.
-
<blockquote>
Eternitykit, seemingly the one more on top of it verbally, nodded. "Hasn't been here in awhile. A few cats are talking to the leader about it right now - but they aren't doing anything."
</blockquote>
-
Dawnpaw hesitated, she knew Poppyseeds helped with pain, almost everyone did. "Fine...give me the seeds. How do you help a sprain?" she mewed, cautiously looking down at Strawpaw. The pretty blue grey she cat licked her fellow apprentice in between the ears. "Hush, Strawpaw, I'm sure they could do that. Changing cobwebs doesn't sound too hard." she purred soothingly.
-
Strawpaw sniffled and nodded. "'k" she mumbled.
-
<blockquote>
Citruspaw moved forward fluidly, shaking two tiny black seeds to the older cat. Her pale eyes roamed the fragile twist once more, but she shook her head. "No... I don't know how... But poppyseeds will keep you until someone comes."
The calico turned her eyes then to Strawpaw to examine her wounds. The cobwebs had been applied neatly but looked ready for a change. Nodding to the cobwebs and marigold at her side, she added, "I can change those. I've seen them do it - it's pretty easy."
Eternitykit, meanwhile, had wondered off to see if anyone else needed attention.
</blockquote>
-
Dawnpaw lapped up the seeds, feeling no imediate effect. "What will happen if it's not taken care of in time?" she asked hesitantly.
-
<blockquote>
"I honestly don't know..." Citruspaw finally turned her eyes to the she-cat's, trying to meet her own. The calico wanted to see the other cat's emotions at this point, not hide from them. A medicine cat was most definitely needed. "I'm no medicine cat... We need one... I'm sorry."
</blockquote>
-
Dawnpaw shifted uncomfortably, sniffing her paw to avert meeting Citruspaw's gaze. "What happenes if Chancepaw doesn't come back?" she asked, wondering why she was.
-
Strawpaw gingerly held out her paw. "W-what does it look like...? I don't wanna see... and I can't feel half my paw, so..." she whimpered, as the soiled cobwebs began to slide off, and she closed her eyes. In fact, half of her paw was gone, most of it covered in flaking scabs, underneith was white scar-tissue. "W-won't anycat go l-looking for her?" she asked timidly, her eyes still squeezed shut.
-
<blockquote>
"I can help you with this, at least," Citruspaw murmured, moving towards Strawpaw swiftly. She help out her paw to show the cobwebs spun with marigold. It was the easiest composition she could create. "And... cats must have... maybe they're unable to find her..."
She knew she would never be a medicine cat for she didn't believe in StarClan. Eternitykit always told her to have faith, but she found none in the inky black sky.

"I guess I'm a but late?" Chimerapaw mewed as hepadded in. The ginger tabby looked at the occupants of the den, and asked from seeing the broken leg, "Hurt your leg?"
-
<blockquote>
"Chimerapaw..." Citruspaw's normal monotone-glazed statement seemed to hold a bit more nervousness now that she was in the presense of someone else. "Um, have you come to help..."
She was in the middle of holding out a cobweb-and-marigold coating. She wondered if Chimerapaw would tell on her. Or was he just here to help? She flushed under her calico coat, wondering the consequences. He might tell Nightstar she was trying to help out in the medicine cat den. But, she tried to remind herself, maybe he was here to try and help too.
</blockquote>
She doesn't know that he's the medicine cat now. (; Her and Eternitykit have been secretly helping out, so he can feel free to tell them TC finally has somone!
-
>Oh. Okay. Thanks for telling me!
Chimerapaw nodded. "I appreciate your help, Citruskit, Eternitykit. The patients have been piling up!" Turning to the other cats, he asked, "Is there anything you need?"
-
<blockquote>
Citruspaw turned to study Chimerapaw with puzzlement. She didn't meet his eyes though, slowly pulling the cobwebs from her paws and placing them neatly on the ground.
"So, wait... do we finally have someone... are you the medicine cat..."
Eternitykit, meanwhile, had already been called back to the nursery for the last time - the next day was his ceremony.
</blockquote>
-
"Yeah, I'm the medicine cat," Chimerapaw replied. He padded over to Citruskit and attempted to help him get rid of the cobwebs on his paws. "Do, with you guys... What happened?"
