"Hello, there!" Mousefang meowed down at the small kit. "What's your name?"

"Nice to meet you!" Mousefang smiled down at the kit. "You're ready to be an apprentice, huh? Show me what you've got!"

Strawberrykit dropped into a crouch she had seen other cats use.

"Good form," Mousefang meowed with a nod. "But do you know what a warrior uses that crouch for?"

Is it for hunting?

"You're right, it is for hunting." Mousefang smiled at the kit. "But there are different kinds of crouches and hunting techniques for different kinds of prey. The mouse, for instance, will feel your pawsteps before he hears you, so you have to make sure you place your paws lightly, like this." He crouched and crept forward lightly, balancing his weight. "Now you try!"

Strawberrykit dropped into the crouch slightly off balanced.

Mousefang chuckled quietly. "You've almost got it. It takes a lot of training to get the techniques down, but you'd be surprised how quickly you'll learn them." He smiled, then glanced upwards at the night sky. "It's getting pretty late, though. I think we should turn in for the night. I'll go over some more things with you tomorrow, if you'd like."
