  • Mousefang glanced around the ThunderClan camp, noticing most of his fellow warriors were sharing tongues or out hunting; some had even retired to the warrior's and apprentice's dens early. He frowned, glancing upward. Still relatively early, he thought. I could use a few cats to patrol the borders with me. After catching a strange scent in the forest recently, he had been on his toes, patrolling the area whenever he left camp. But it was too late for him to safely go alone. He'd need warriors.

  • Frogleap padded out of the warrior's den and noticed Mousefang. "Hey Mousefang!" Frogleap meowed as he padded towards him. "I heard you needed cats for your patrol, I was wondering if I could come with you."

  • Mousefang turned to his approaching clanmates with a smile. "Frogleap! Grayclaw! Perfect. I wanted to investigate that odd cat-scent on the western side of our territory." He motioned with his tail in the general direction. "It seems that our intruder is paying their visits later in the night." He stood and began to pad toward the camp entrance. "Erm," he said with a pause near the fresh-kill pile, "have you two eaten yet?"

  • "Good," Mousefang replied with a nod. "Out we go then." He pushed through the entrance and waited on the other side for his clanmates, scenting the air and flexing his claws. "I'm hoping we're just dealing with a loner or kittypet," he meowed idly. "I don't think we could deal with a full on attack by ourselves."

  • Mousefang half-grinned, flicking his tail. "I hope you're right. I haven't seen a battle in a couple moons; I'm a bit rusty." He stepped further into the forest, eyes darting around for movement.

  • Frogleap took a deep breath and looked around. He yawned and looked through the undergrowth, hoping to find prey. Suddenly, there was a rustle in the bushes.

  • Mousefang's eyes widened at the sound, and he quickly turned toward it, his fur bristling and his ears flat. "What in StarClan...?" he whispered. "That sounded larger than your average mouse."

  • A silver tabby she-cat darted out of the bush and leaped at Frogleap. She pinned Frogleap down, he struggled in her grasp. Instead of a satisfied gleam in her eyes, it was excited. "Hi, Frogleap!" she mewed. A low growl escaped Frogleap's throat. "Mistpaw! What are you doing here!?" he growled.

  • "Mistpaw...?" Mousefang's fur lay flat as he took in the silver she-cat. "Frogleap, who is this?" Mousefang flicked his ears with embarrassment; he still didn't know many cats in the clan.

  • "My apprentice." Frogleap sighed in annoyance. Mistpaw got off of Frogleap. "Sorry, Frogleap! I just wanted to join you on your patrol!" He glared at Mistpaw. "And that's how you ask a simple question?" he growled.

  • Mousefang chuckled. "I see." He turned to Frogleap with a smile. "Do you think she'd be ready if we ran into anything hostile?" He flicked his eyes from Grayclaw to Frogleap. "We could definitely use a few extra paws."
