  • "It's not your fault," Duskpelt meowed, not hearing Berryclaw calling her. "Our clans don't understand."

  • "I wish we could all just get along..", she said to him.

  • Duskpelt nodded, his forest green eyes filled with kindness. "I'm Duskpelt," he meowed, bowing his head in greeting. "Who are you?"

  • "Icefeather, nice to meet you.", she said, bowing her head too.

  • Duskpelt smiled, lifting his head. "So you don't like clan rivalries either?"

  • "Not one bit.", she answered.

  • Duskpelt smiled. "Then your the first to agree with me. I've lived in a world of rivals my whole life, and when I found peace in my clan I wanted to keep it that way. Then, for some reason, we became rivals with your clan and I became lost and confused." His ears started to droop and his eyes began to cloud. "It reminded me of the chaos I felt when I figured out I had no family."

  • "I'm so sorry to hear that. I just hate seeing my Clanmates die and I know your clanmates die too and how sad your clan must feel. I then start to get angry at my clan and myself for knowing that WE killed those cats just because of stupid territories.", Icefeather said.

    Once more Berryclaw called, "ICEFEATHER?"

  • "I feel the same way," Duskpelt meowed, looking into FeatherClan territory. "Somebody is calling you. I should go before your clanmate catches us speaking. I'll look forward to seeing you again, Icefeather." Flicking his tail farewell, he padded into his territory, becoming hidden.

  • "See you!", she called after him just before Berryclaw appeared. "Icefeather, I've been looking for you. You said we could go hunting together today.", he said. She sighed and thought, "He always bugs me! Why can't he be more like Duskpelt, polite, calm and listens to what I say."

  • Duskpelt padded slowly around the forest, stalling so he didn't have to return to his camp. Why did he and Icefeather have to be in separate clans? She was probably the only person that understood him, yet alone felt what he feels.

  • As Berryclaw lead the hunt, Icefeather's thought always drifted back towards Duskpelt. When she spotted a mouse, she had stepped on a twig and it when fleeing. "Bad luck.", he said but Berryclaw knew that Icefeather was one of the best hunters.

  • As Duskpelt let his paws lead him around the territory, he found himself staring into the river that bordered the territory. He sat down by the water's edge, his mind drifting to Icefeather. She was the only one who understood him, and he felt good about that. But why did he want to continue to talk to her? He didn't have the answer.

  • Icefeather said, "Go on hunting. I'll meet you back at camp." and he wandered off but she didn't want to hunt. Letting her paws lead her, she found herself back at the river but she wasn't alone. Duskpelt was there too. She felt her heartbeat go faster although she didn't know why. Her ears started twitching, which happens when she's happy but what bothered her the most was why she felt the way she did. That was one answer she didn't know the answer to.

  • Looking up at the sound of pawsteps, he smiled when he saw Icefeather. "Back so soon?" he called.

  • "I guess my paws and yours seem to lead us back here.", she said smiling.

  • "Do you know why?" Duskpelt heard himself ask, not intending on it being out loud. But now that the question lingered in the air, he couldn't take it back.

  • "I guess I like talking to you but I'm not sure.", she answered honestly. Her ears started to twitch more.

  • The sun beating down on his black pelt, Duskpelt realized that he wanted to be with Icefeather more. Smiling, he said, "Are you going to the gathering tonight? We can talk more then."

  • "I will.", she said smiling, "I guess I'll see you there?"
