Crystalpaw in need of a mentor

    "Yeeeees, Warrior Iceheart! Crystalpaw is ready to sleep at your command!" Crystalpaw joked, but she too gave a yawn. "Good night, Warrior Iceheart! Crystalpaw will command herself to go to sleep!" Crystalpaw stiffly marched to the apprentices den.

    The next morning...
    Crystalpaw bounded into the warriors den. She found Iceheart and prodded her. "Iceheart, Iceheart! I'm ready to do hunt!"

    Iceheart streched and sat up to lick her fur. "Let's eat first. We can't hunt if we are hungry."

    Crystalpaw ate her meal as fast as she could. "I'm ready, Iceheart. Can we please go now?"

    When the two cats arrived at the lake, Crystalpaw bent over the water. "I don't see any fish!" she meowed.

    "you have to wait for one to swim by. watch me." She held her paw over the water with her claws outstreched. After some waiting her paw flashed and she pulled out a fish. She bit its spine to kill it. "there. Do you want to try? you have to be very quiet and still."

    Crystalpaw nodded.
    She tried.
    She really tried.
    But it was nature's fault she couldn't do it.
    As Crystalpaw sat still, a bug buzzed around her head and landed on her, making her pelt itchy. She saw a silver minnow paused in front of her. Before Crystalpaw hooked the fish out, she waved the bug off with her tail.
    Bad mistake.
    The minnow saw the shadow move and it darted off, leaving Crystalpaw slapping her paw at nothing and crying, "I got it! I got it! I-" She saw nothing. "Mouse dung!" Crystalpaw hissed.

    Iceheart purred at the frustrated apprentice. "bugs are everywhere. get used to them. try again"

    Crystalpaw sat still. As soon as she saw a flash of silver, she lunged and used her paw to swipe the fish up. "I've got it this time!" Crystalpaw cried. The fish flopped around like crazy, and it took the apprentice several tries to pounce and bite the fish. When it finally died(more of exahuation), Crystalpaw was dismayed. "It's tiny!"

    "Don't worry. It's only your first catch. you should be proud! It takes most apprentices a lot more trys." Iceheart bent down to pick up her fish. "let's take these to camp and then we can hunt in the forest."

    Crystalpaw nodded. "I guess you're right." She picked up the fish and followed Iceheart back to the camp.

    Iceheart put her fish with the rest of the freshkill. "Now we can go and hunt mice in the forest."

    Crystalpaw padded out the entrance. "Um, how do you stalk mice again?"

    "Watch me." Iceheart bent down low to the ground, keeping her tail off the fallen leaves. She slowly crept forward. Suddenly, she jumped into some bushes and came out with a mouse. "That's how. You try."

    Crystalpaw nodded and crouched, her tail high. She saw a mouse nibbling on something, and she pounced, biting the mouse's neck. "I got it!" she yowled.

    Crystalpaw sniffed the air and followed a scent trail to a magpie pecking here and there. She held her breath and carefully put paw after paw in front of her. Just as Crystalpaw leapt with a whoosh, the bird flew up and into the branches of a tree. Crystalpaw was just about to scream mouse-dung when she noticed something. "Iceheart, come here," Crystalpaw meowed. "I see a bird nest!"

    Iceheart slowly crept up on the nest. "No birds in sight, but there are eggs in the nest. We can take them. Eggs are delicious!" Meowed Iceheart, licking her lips.
