  • 从inkpaw

Minkpaw blinked her eyes open. She had a throbbing pain in her head- most likely a concussion. The young RiverClan apprentice stood up on shaky paws and looked around warily. She was on the bank of the River, and blood gushed from her flank, turning the water a deep shade of scarlet. All the silver tabby she-cat could remember was training with her mentor, then falling and hitting her head on a rock... Now she was somewhere by the riverbank, left alone. Hopefully a patrol would find her... Hopefully. On the meantime, she yawned and located where the wounds were. One was huge-- Across her entire side and blood was steadily dripping. Her pawpads were scarred, too, and there were no herbs or cobwebs to heal them. Even if there was, what did she know about herbs? That was Medicine Cat stuff, wasn't it? Minkpaw decided to rest.. Soon enough someone would find her left alone on the riverbank.

  • The giggles that rang through the forest were followed by a soft, exasperated sigh. Fernpaw was attempting to stay in pace with her sister, Tulippaw. The orange tabby was ignoring the smaller she-cat's annoyance and skipped through the forest merrily. She was absolutely ecstatic that she had passed her first exam. Tulippaw had never been a good hunter and had failed the first time around, only procuring one scrawny vole and an old, stringy mouse. While her second attempt wasn't extraordinary, it was definitely an improvement. Thing time around the large she-cat had managed to capture two fish, a nice plump squirrel and a mouse that might be slightly on the small size, but her mentor was proud with her improvement and had let the small mouse slide.

"Tulippaw," Fernpaw began for the third time in an attempt to calm her excited sister, "At this rate you'll scare away all the prey and Riverclan will go hungry for a moon! Now hush your yelling and calm down." Tulippaw obediently stopped giggling and running about in a mad dash, but she couldn't help but bounce up and down, her tail waving back and forth as she had seen a two-leg dog do once when the beast was happy. Fernpaw rolled her eyes at her sisters excitement.

"Sorry Fernpaw!" Tulippaw apologized, not at all sounding sorry, "Let's go to the bank! I want to catch more fish!" Then Tulippaw took off before Fernpaw could say a word. The brown tabby hesitated, the sun was going down soon. The she-cat shivered at the thought of staying out after dark. Whenever the light went away, Fernpaw's green eyes would grow and she would shiver in fear. So, she was understandably hesitant at the prospect of staying out. However, Tulippaw was already on her way, so Fernpaw had no choice but to follow her sister.

Tulippaw was about to bound down to the bank- when she stopped abruptly at the tree line, staring in horror at the scene below. Fernpaw curiously padded up to her sister, and looked down. There was a young she-cat, who was very bloody. Vaguely Fernpaw recognized her, she was another Riverclan apprentice, but Fernpaw couldn't recall her name. Tulippaw seemed frozen in surprise and offer no assistance, so Fernpaw calmly- but quickly- made her way toward the injured she-cat.

"Are you alright?" She mewed, looking down at the apprentice, "Excuse me, of course you're not all right! What happened?" After a moments though, She added quickly, "Nevermind that, me and my sister Tulippaw have to get you to the medicine cat!"

  • So what she had an addiction? An addiction to hunting in the river, napping by the river, and conversing by the river...One wouldn't call it a 'addiction', but to Endlesspossibility it was a joke, a mere thing to humor other cats in her presence.

She, like any other day was by the river, and in this case, the river-bank, hunting was what she came to do...But another shock had seemed to call her, and soon the lithe chocolate point was making her silent way to the sleeping, bleeding body of Minkpaw. Of course, the warrior had no idea who this washed-up apprentice might be, but the Riverclan scent that clung to her informed the proud cat that this indeed was one of her kind.

Sitting down next to her, the female feline dare not disturb her, but nonetheless could not sit and watch the injured cat sleep, afraid that the presence of death could be hovering over her. Lifting a shaky chocolate paw, Endless aimed to prod her in an uninjured, non-bloodstained area, hoping that the apprentice would awaken and that she could deliver her to the medicine den.

"Please wake up!" She urged softly.

  • Fernpaw looked up to see a sudden new arrival. It was an older female, a warrior probably. She hadn't seemed to notice Fernpaw in her rush to aid the fallen apprentice. The brown tabby looked down, and upon hearing the elder cats words, realized that the cat that she had thought was merely injured and resting was actually unconscious. This was something Fernpaw had not realized in her hidden panic. Confused by this information and the new arrival, Fernpaw didn't know what to say.

Luckily for her, Tulippaw shook herself from her state of shock and hurried over as well. She turned to the unknown cat and asked, "Do you know this cat?" Fernpaw looked up at her sister when she spoke, then she turned to the stranger to await her reply.

  • [fancypost bgcolor=#000000 bordercolor=#00ccbb borderwidth=2px]

A light sigh escaped the she-cat as she opened her chocolate maw to speak, "I do not know this cat...But it seems to be horribly injured, I am afraid to move her, in fear of causing anymore damage," Endless slowly said, eying the two apprentices strangely. Of course, she had not noticed them, they were smaller, and frankly it seemed that her mind was on one track...Not capable of handling anything else until the current situation was over.

"I'm Endlesspossibility, and may I pray ask you your name?" The senior warrior asked, her blue eyes shining. It seemed like a sort of convenience, has these cats had also shown up. It could prove to be helpful in the future, and perhaps they could fetch one of the three medicine cats that Riverclan depended on.

Of course, being the responsible role-model that she happened to be, Endless would sit with the cat, even if she decided to stir from unconsciousness or not, it seemed like her duty anyways...She did seem like oldest cat here.

  • Fernpaw nodded, a bit disappointed that this cat could not provide any information about this injured cat. Tulippaw merely turned back to the other cat, about to prod her roughly when Fernpaw batted away her paw. "Don't you be poking injured cats!" She chided, "As she said, we really ought not to move her without someone experienced to help!" Tulippaw shrugged and sat down, unsure what to do. She normally was the bouncy and friendly one out of the two, and left the serious situation to her calmer sister.

"I'm Endlesspossibility, and may I pray ask you your name?" Fernpaw looked back at the other cat- Endlesspossibility as she said her name was. Hearing that this cat was indeed a warrior, Fernpaw's demeanor changed to one much more composed and calm.

"Nice to meet you Ma'am." Fernpaw greeted politely, "My name is Fernpaw, this is my sister Tulippaw." Fernpaw sat down gingerly, unsure but thinking rapidly. Slowly she suggested, "If you don't mind me asking Ma'am, How about we send Tulippaw here to fetch the medicine cat? She's a quick one and won't take long to reach camp." Tulippaw looked up abruptly and cut in,

"Yes, well... Sure. I'll go." Tulippaw didn't seem to care whether Endlesspossibility approved or not, she stood up and waited for the 'go' from her sister.

  • [fancypost bgcolor=#000000 bordercolor=#00ccbb borderwidth=2px]

"Oh yes, that would be a wonderful idea to fetch a medicine cat using dearest Tulippaw," Endless agreed, flicking her tail to dismiss of the helpful apprentice. Not waiting for any more conversation directed at her, the warrior maneuvered her way to the river-bank, intending to find some fresh prey for the she-cat she she was shaken from sleep.

Taking in a deep breath, the warrior rose up and was sitting upon her haunches, her two chocolate front-paws were in the cold water, awaiting the dark, yet silvery figure of a fish to swim by it. Finally, her patience had been rewarded as the fish like figure swam by, with a quick movement, the feline hooked the creature up, and threw it onto dry land.

Arising to four-paws, Endless made her way to flopping fish, ignoring the jumbled the pleas to stop, with yet another quick movement the fish was silenced..And Endlesspossibility sat up proudly her fish dangling in her jaws.

  • Tulippaw, as always, ignored Endlesspossibility's agreement to her fetching the medicine cat. The stubborn she-cat instead looked at Fernpaw, who nodded in her continued exasperation. Fernpaw greatly disliked her sister's lack of respect for authority that didn't have a special title such as Leader, Deputy, Medicine Cat or her own Mentor. Never the less, The moment Fernpaw gave her the confirmation, Tulippaw jumped up and dashed in the forest. Leaving the two, plus and injured, she-cat's alone.

Fernpaw herself shifted uncomfortably in the silence. It wasn't that she didn't like silence- in fact, it was something she relished in. Instead is was her lack of confidence that unsettled her. She didn't know what was wrong with the apprentice and Fernpaw didn't like not knowing- it meant that she couldn't come up with an answer to a difficult situation. Sighing, the she-cat resigned herself to lying next to the sleeping apprentice as she watched Endlesspossibility.

The warrior was definitely taking charge, something Fernpaw admired and respected. She also was relatively skilled in her hunting, which was also an admirable trait. When Endlesspossibility completed her kill, Fernpaw looked up and finally said,

"Excuse mine asking Ma'am, But I was wondering why you were down here all alone in the first place? I hope it is not to bold of me to question."

  • [fancypost bgcolor=#000000 bordercolor=#00ccbb borderwidth=2px]

"It is not a bold question in the slightest," Endless purred, ready to begin her quick explanation about the small addiction she had to the river. "You see, I've always loved three things that top everything else, those three things happen to be my dearest family, brilliant colors that light up the world, and this here river...On my own time, when I'm not busy training Azulpaw or tending to patrols, I like to come down here, fish, talk, nap. I bet another question is sparking in your mind," Endless explained, purring the last part.

Taking yet another breath of oxygen, the she-cat continued her story, "it probably sounded quite odd for me, who is quite alone at the river to be talking. Well I assure that I am not crazy, but can merely talk to almost everything, except for twolegs that is...That fish I killed? It was begging me to stop," she said with a pleased look on her maw.

It had been the first time Endless had told anybody about her strange power, and to just get that off her chest made the pretty chocolate point feel an ounce of relief. She couldn't go around talking about the power to everyone, she might get strange stares...But Fernpaw? She was much different, and Endlesspossibility actually felt as if she could trust the other cat.

  • Fernpaw internally let out a sigh of relief when the warrior assured her it was a fine question- the apprentice did not want to offend this she-cat. As Endlesspossibility spoke, Fernpaw couldn't help but agree as she ticked off the things she said she enjoyed. When the she-cat mentioned family, Fernpaw's mind jumped to her frail and elderly mother, Jadeeyes, she remembered all the stories that Jadeeyes had told of her deceased father. Unconsciously nodding her head in agreement, Fernpaw thanked her stars once more that she had been given her dear mother's eyes, a shade of brilliant emerald.

To think of, as the other put it, brilliant color that light up the world, as something to cherish, was an interesting prospect. Fernpaw's eyes flashed around, taking in the different colors- the blue river that had gray stones protruding out of it and moss growing over those stones. The green tree that were all around were beautiful and cast shades onto the grass below. Above was the radiant sun that beat down unto the ground. To thing of the world in this perspective was startling to say the least, Fernpaw never quite appreciated the Earth for what it was.

As for the last one, Fernpaw nearly purred in contentment. Not to say she didn't enjoy the company of others, in fact it was that Fernpaw greatly thrived in the presence of cats who were intelligent or bright in their own way- the ones that Fernpaw was close to. However, Fernpaw also enjoyed those moments of solitude. The seconds she spent near the river alone, just living in that moment. Despite these new thoughts that clouded Fernpaw's mind- right as Endlesspossibility mentioned it, Fernpaw found herself wondering what the other cat meant by 'talk'.

To hear the answer to her unspoken question was a bit strange. Talking to fish? Such an odd idea. Surely she meant that she spoke to the fish, but in a way that one would whisper their troubles to the night air, to keep themselves sane, and their troubles a secret. The way she said dejected this theory. Endlesspossibility said the fish had spoken back- it had been begging her to stop. This was what slightly worried Fernpaw, but the idea of speaking to another animal intrigued Fernpaw. If only she could understand the words of other animals- then maybe, just maybe, she wouldn't feel so scared and alone in the dark.

"Ma'am that sounds simply amazing to be able to converse what is the unknown to others. I wish I could speak and find out the rivers secrets... Please Miss. Do you know how you came about this extraordinary ability? It's just... Unworldy." The moment these very words escape Fernpaw's mouth, she regretted it. How very insensitive of her! Perhaps this cat did not enjoy this power. Maybe it was a secret that had spilled over. Was it torture to hear the pleas of your prey? Fernpaw lamented that this could be the last she would speak a work of polite conversation with Endlesspossibility, it may offend her so. To attempt to repair any damage before it could go to far, the apprentice rushed on- "Of course Ma'am, I don't mean to barge in. It is your business, not mine. I swear I will keep this secret if you wish me too, it is not mine to tell. You need not tell me if you do not want to... Apologies for asking what is not for me to know."

  • Minkpaw twitched at the sound of voices and soon opened her eyes. The other three cats that were gathered around her didn't seem to notice she had woken up; because they were chatting contentedly. She did know that they were aware of her, however, because it seemed that at first they were talking about her. Minkpaw slowly tried to get up, but a sudden pain in her back left leg caused the apprentice to fall back down on to the ferns. Minkpaw was about to ask one of the cats for help, but their backs were to her and she decided against it. She didn't want to startle them. Instead, Minkpaw flicked her tail, wincing when she noticed it had been cut, too, along with almost the entire rest of her body.

  • [fancypost bgcolor=#000000 bordercolor=#00ccbb borderwidth=2px]

The chocolate point couldn't help but giggle, this had been the nicest apprentice that she had ever been in the presence of. "Dear, I do not know how those were gifted upon me, but do carry on with these wonderful questions...I love them," she purred enthusiastically.

Flicking her tail, Endless thought it would be right for her to check on the young, injured cat once again. Standing up, the lithe figure turned around and smiled..."It seems that you have awaken, we've already sent an apprentice to fetch a medicine cat, so I bid you not to move," The point ordered, sitting down, she locked her blue gaze onto all of the injuries. She might be gifted with scars if nothing was to be down soon.

  • As Fernpaw had been laying right next to the she-cat, she jolted in surprise when the apprentice moved. The brown tabby was up in a second and she turned around to see that the she-cat had awoken. Though Fernpaw was relieved, she was also thoroughly annoyed. She had been having a lovely conversation with Endlesspossibility, so of course she decided to wake up now. Fernpaw quickly scolded herself for thinking meanly of the other apprentice, and reminded herself that maybe her awakening would distract the warrior and then, maybe, Endlesspossibility would forget Fernpaw's rude questions.

"My goodness!" Fernpaw exclaimed in relief of seeing that the other apprentice wasn't to wounded that she was passed out the whole time. "Just lay down still," She ordered softly, "It'll hurt if you move around to much. The medicine cat will be here soon to help." Then, Fernpaw sat down again, her tail wrapping itself around her and resting on her paws.

"Also, My name is Fernpaw, may I ask what is yours?"

(A/N: Oh, Sorry Endlesspossibility, didn't see you post xD)

  • Minkpaw glanced up as Endlesspossiblity, Fernpaw, and Tulippaw. "Oh! I, um, didn't notice you guys knew I was awake... Umm, I'm Minkpaw." She mewed, her voice scratchy due to the fact she must have swallowed a lot of water when she fell in the river... Or did she fall in? The young chocolate tabby didn't quite remember much as she had a minor concussion. All she could remember was very little, anyway. Training with her mentor, learning how to fish, and then black fur in her way and.. Wait- black fur! She had been pushed after all! Minkpaw scrabbled to her feet, igniting her protesting pains in her hind leg. "This is horrible! Oh my... Pushed! Someone wanted me to die, or at least get hurt!" Minkpaw nearly forgot about the other cats with her as she limped back and forth along the bank. Why yes, it did hurt an awful lot, but she had much worse things on her mind. "A killer! In RiverClan!" She shivered as the words came out, as it was hard to believe.

  • The moment Minkpaw started to move, Fernpaw jumped up and walked in front of her, "Minkpaw, is it? Well then, sit down. You have to rest." Fernpaw tried to sound calm, but if one looked then they would see wide eyes. The thought of a killer in Riverclan was a horrible prospect. To think that someone could be laying in wait in the background, just waiting to pounce... Small tremors racked along her small body. Taking a deep breath to contain herself, Fernpaw slowly spoke, carefully thinking about her words.

"A killer in Riverclan? I must express my hope that you saw wrong, or mus-interpreted an accident. I just have a hard time thinking someone would want to murder his own clanmate." Sighing, Fernpaw considered her options- Tulippaw should have reached the camp by now. Checking the sky, Fernpaw reasoned that the medicine cat should be here by sunset- the sun was about an hour from setting. The first problem was to get Minkpaw to settle down and stay still, they couldn't risk further injury.

"If there is though, We'll be sure to report it to the deputy or leader right when we get back to camp. But we have to wait for my sister, Tulippaw to return with the medicine cat so she can check over you. We don't want you to get further injured. If it's any consolation, then the fact that you survived and weren't hurt to badly will definitely frustrate your killer.

  • "I know.. All RiverClanners seem so... So, nice. What if it was a rouge? I know what I saw, and it was definitely a cat." Minkpaw insisted. She shivered again, but she couldn't tell if it was from fear or just because the river water that drenched her pelt was so chilling. "I mean... One second I was training with my mentor, Eagleflight, and next thing I knew I was being washed away in the river. I honestly don't even know when I got here..." She admitted shyly. "But I do know how grateful I am you all came." - She flicked her tail indicating towards the cats- "I might've died if you hadn't. I hope that they get back with the Medicine Cat soon, though, I don't want any scars." She meowed, even though she was most likely going to have at least one.
