Sunflower needs a mate

    Sunflower, a beautiful golden tabby she-cat with a fleck of white on chest and golden eyes, sits at the edge of a pool. She carefully dabs a paw into the water and giggles when the ripples spread out. A crunch sounds behind her, and she whirls around. "Who's there?" She asks, a cautious but curious gleam in her eyes.

    Stonetooth padded out of the long grass beside Sunflower and reached her before Ray had."Having fun?"he asked sarcastically as she dabbed she paw in the water then giggled.

    She looked at Ray, her eyes kind. "It's alright, Ray," she said. "I'm pleased to meet you." She nodded over to Stonetooth. "I just got kind of bored, and so overwhelmed...I just had to disappear for a bit. I didn't know anyone else was around," she added embarressedly. She padded over to Ray. "I've seen you around before," she said, nodding to him.

    She flicked her tail towards Stonetooth. "I'll see you back at camp," she said, purring. "I'm going to walk for a bit, and stretch my legs. I'll be back." She nodded to Ray, gesturing for him to lead the way. "Of course I'll walk with you," she said softly.

    Sunflower pushes down the grass some more, and curls up in the nest, purring when the sun hit her fur. "We're good friends. I've been looking for a mate." She closed her eyes and purred, whiskers twitching. "He's hinted at it a couple of times. I don't know. It may not be the best choice. I mean, if things don't work out, it could ruin our friendship." She gazed up at the sky, eyes trailing on the clouds. "If only things were simpler..."

    Stonetooth watched Sunflower leave with Ray anf hissed in annoyance.How could that loner just waltz right in and steal that cat he'd loved for many moons??He flicked his tail and called after her "don't forget about our hunting patrol".He padded forward through the leafy forest wondering what he had done to set Sunflower off.

    She blinked warmly at Stonetooth as he padded away. "I haven't forgotten," she called after him. She stood up and shook the grass from her pelt. "I'd better go, Ray. It'll look suspicious if I'm gone for too long. I'll...I'll see you tomorrow? Or...tonight maybe? Same place?"

    Stonetooth whipped his head around angrily.He padded past the camp and headed up the ravine where he knew he could think.But he wasn't going there to think he was going there to get away from Ray and Sunflower.Of course he had seen the hints that she wanted a mate,but whenever he tried to get close to her something else happened and it would pull them apart.He sighed and sat down on the lowest branch of an oak tree.

    Sunflower padded into the camp to see Stonetooth resting under a branch. "Hi," she said brightly, and padded over to sit next to him, purring.

    Stonetooth looked down at Sunflower from where he was sitting up on the branch.She had managed to find his favourite spot int he woods.He didn't answer her when she greeted him.

    She cocked her head at him curiously. "What's wrong? You come here often. I've seen you. But today you look upset." She looked around. "This is a beautiful place. I can see why you like it here."

    Stonetooth looked down at her again "i'm surprised you don't know whats wrong,you of all cats should know"he hopped down form the branch and faced her

    She backed up a bit, the fur lifting along her spine. "Is this about me and Ray? I thought since you were my friend, you would support me! I've been looking for a mate for a while; you should be happy for me!"

    Stonetooth glared at her "i know i should be happy for you Sunflower!"he yelled at her then his eyes softened "but i'm not nbecause you didn't choose me"he admitted "i've been getting the hints that you've wanted a mate for a while,and i've tried to get close to you but everytime i do someone or something gets between us and pulls us apart"he told her then looked away from her.

    Sunflower blinked at him. "I had no idea you felt that way. I...It's just...It's not that i didn't choose you, because I...I do love you. But I need a love that's not so...complicated. You're my friend, Stonetooth. A good friend. And if something goes wrong between us, I don't want to mess that friendship up. I want to keep things simple. I did choose you, Stonetooth. But I'm scared of what might happen if we become mates. Ray is a kind cat, and I trust him. I'll always need you, Stonetooth, right by my side, no matter what happens. I'm not sure what I'll do next. I...I need to think." She stands up, and makes to walk off.

    Stonefur stands where he was without turning to look at her "so what if things get messed up between us if we became mates?Our friendship wouldn't be ruined Sunflower,i promise you that much"he said looking at the earth."I-I just don't think Ray is right for you,and not just because he's a loner and that the warrior code forbids it" he pointed out.He turned to look at her his bright green eyes looking directly into her eyes."I'm glad to hear that you love me too..."he padded closer to her until they were nose to nose."I would never do anything to hurt you or ruin our friendship or relationship Sunflower,i promise you that"he told her
