  • Renee's nose twitched like a cat's. She crouched in the bushes and lunged when the time seemed right. She bit his neck and dropped him, a look of horror on her face.

  • Shadow put his hand on her shoulder. "I'm sorry, but you have to survive. Finish him off." he said.

  • Renee took a few deep breaths and bit the man's arm. She drank him dry and dropped him, sobbing.

  • [align=center][font=times new roman]Shadow wrapped his arms around her. "I'm so sorry for this, Renee. I was selfish when I turned you into this." he whispered, tears running down his face, though he tried to wipe them away before Renee saw him cry.

  • "I told you to. I'll get used to it." she gulped when she saw him crying a little. She cried even more. And it wasn't the pretty movie star crying. It included sniffing, nose wiping, hiccuping, and red eyes.

  • [align=center][font=times new roman]Shadow sighed again. "We need to get going before someone sees us." he said, calming down. "And you need to assure your family that you're alive (in a sense) after that fire."

  • Renee cried even more. "I told you. All my family died at the wedding except my brother. And he doesn't know about the fire."

  • [align=center][font=times new roman]Shadow sighed and hugged her again. "Whatever the circumstaces, we need to leave." he said.

  • She nodded. "Ok." she sniffed and stopped crying.

  • [align=center][font=times new roman]Shadow helped Renee up. "It's ten in the morning. We should get to sleep." he said.

  • "It is? I'm not even tired." she said, stifling a yawn.

  • [align=center][font=times new roman]Shadow smirked a little. "Well, it is. Closer to ten thirty actually, and vampires are mostly nocturnal." he said. "Besides, you needed to learn how to fly eventually." His wings extended and he hovered, holding out his hand to her. "Just imagine yourself with wings, take my hand and flying shall come naturally."

  • "I-I can't. I'm afraid of heights." she whispered.

  • [align=center][font=times new roman]"A lot of the time, flying will be your only means of escape. But I suppose you don't have to learn it today." he said, lighting down. "We just need to get as far away from here as possible." He took her hand and began to walk into the woods.

  • [align=center][font=times new roman]Shadow held her hand. "It's not your fault." he smiled, then looked up. "The sun's getting higher. We need to leave now or we won't be able to find a place."

  • [align=center][font=times new roman]After walking a little ways, Shadow looked up into an oak tree. "This looks like a nice spot. Don't worry, with your new race you'll sleep fine in trees." he said. "Do you need help getting up, or can you climb a tree?" he smirked.

  • "I can." she muttured, not mentioning her fear of heights. She grabbed a branch and pulled herself up.

  • [align=center][font=times new roman]Shadow flew up and was on the branch as well. It was a large one that held the both of them easily. "Good day." Shadow muttered before falling asleep with his head on Renee's shoulder.
