  • Caroline nodded then walked up to the counter. "Small black coffee please." she said, then stepped aside so he could order.

  • "And a cappuccino," Casey put in, standing next to Caroline. He pulled some money out of his pocket. "My treat," he told her.

  • Casey moved to gently hold her wrist back. "Come on. I'm the tag-along, I got this." The turned to the cashier, who was just coming back tot the cash register with their drinks. He held out the money in his other hand. "Here. Take this before she pays. And keep the change."

  • Caroline widened her eyes, but let him hold her wrist back. Her eyes were clouded with a certain emotion even herself could not place. She had not been treated to something in a while. "Are you sure?" she asked slowly, her voice softer.

  • "If I wasn't sure, would I be forcing the money into this cashier's hand?" Casey asked her, sounding amused.

  • Casey smiled slightly and paid for their drinks. He handed Caroline her coffee, holding his own drink in his other hand.

  • "It's fine," Casey replied, sipping his cappuccino. "So, what's up? I mean, other than the sky, ceiling, and any other bad puns floating around."

  • Caroline laughed slightly, a cute little laugh. "er, i guess nothing. Nothing too big has happened for me." she said, sitting down in the booth and taking a sip. "anything up for you?" she asked.

  • "Not much for me, either," Casey replied. "Except I have to turn in an essay on - guess what - the uses of paperclips. How weird is that?" He chuckled.

  • Caroline raised an eyebrow. "the uses of paperclips huh? well, that should be easy, considering they can be used for tons of things. " she pointed out, before she thought. "What class is that?" she asked.

  • "I don't have that for my english class." she said, then began to realize how social she had been. She glanced around the room. She had been talking really loud in her opinion, yet to everyone else she was very quiet. She started to get shy as she slowly sank down into her seat.

  • "Maybe my teacher is just weird. . . Unless you have him, too." Casey watched her. "Something wrong?" he asked, noticing how Caroline sunk down in her chair.

  • She looked at him. "no..." she said, trailing off as she sipped her coffee.
