  • Earthberry took a look at the freshkill pile. "Could -erm- the deputy lead a hunting patrol out to hunt for prey?"
Such a great idea... ruined by you! It's not called a deputy, it's called the Chaos Starter! Hiss thought angrily.
Earthberry's eyes flickered about from cat to cat. Who had just spoken?
    "I meant the Chaos Starter..."

  • "We don't have a Chaos Starter right now." Primeheart pointed out, in fact they didn't even have a Healer anymore either. The entire ranking system needed to be sorted out, and by the new leader.

  • "Oh," Earthberry said. "Well, then I shall make a competition. The one who can hunt for the most prey, most effectively will be the next Chaos Starter."

  • "Erm...," Earthberry began. The one who can get up to thirty pieces of prey -fastest- will win. They may steal from each other too as long as the prey is hidden outside the cave. Once inside, the prey is added to their count, Hiss thought.
"Well, the one who manages to get 30 pieces of prey fastest will win. The cave is used for safekeeping, although it must be in the cave, so as long as the prey is outside of the cave, any other cat may steal it. The cat who brings it back is the one who "gets it". I will be guarding the cave," Earthberry decided. Who was it telling her what to do though?

  • "Thirty pieces of prey?! Are you mad? I doubt there is even that much prey on the territory, plus how are we gonna eat that much afterwards? I don't want to just waste prey!" Sage blurted out loudly, bristling.

"She has a point, we'd be doing ourselves no favours in wasting valuable food, especially during leaf-bare." Death spoke, he sat down and sighed. "I'm out." He growled, trudging back into the cave. Even Solarstorm and War were looking uneasy about catching that much prey.

  • Hiss grinned, delighted. They still so brainless. Chaosstar would easily have figured out that all they had to do was to catch one rabbit, or mouse or whatever and cut it into 30 pieces. She had said pieces right? Well, they could have thought differently about it... and the cleverest cat could have won.
Earthberry's eyes turned big as she listened to the mysterious cat speak. "Think carefully. 30 pieces..."

  • Earthberry sighed. "I'd like one half of a rabbit please..."

Now, she's not making any sense at all, Hiss thought. Quit making them understand. By some time, one of them should understand... although it might take a moon or two...

  • Solarstorm sighed. "This is just pointless! Anyone who dares to challenge me for the rank of Chaos Starter is free to test their claws against mine!"

War grinned. "Now yer talking! Chaos Starters need to be strong, not some lowly Hunter!" The two toms were already sizing each other up, bristling and hissing.

Soundwave chuckled as he looked at Earthberry. "You have a long way to go until you understand tribe politics, Hunters don't really fight and Guards don't bother hunting. The Chaos Starter is considered the mightiest Guard, higher than the Elites. Your hunting test in some ways is a sign of weakness, no Hunter could ever be a Chaos Starter."

  • Earthberry narrowed her eyes.
"My hunting test is not to test who the best hunter is! My hunting test is to test who the most clever and creative cat is!" Hiss growled through Earthberry.

  • Soundwave sat down and yawned as he watched War and Solarstorm duke it out.

The two toms were screeching and yowling, battering each other with powerful blows and splattering the cave floor with blood as wounds began to form.

"I wonder who'll win?" Copper meowed, getting quite excited.

Chaosstar padded through the Dark Forest, tail lashing as he strained to see where he was going. All around him he could scent clan cats and other tribe cats who had ended up here. He knew why he was here, being clan-born and never truly abandoning the old ways meant he was forced to walk here.

  • Hiss frowned. One of them could kill the other... but did that even matter? She decided to leave Earthberry for a while to search for her old leader. Perhaps he'd know what to do?

Earthberry felt something leave her, yet she didn't know what. All she could feel was emptiness.

  • Chaosstar paused and pricked his ears as a tom padded past him. It was Taintedstar. "Where are you going?" Chaosstar meowed but Taintedstar ignored him and hurried along. A sense of loneliness enveloped the old leader.

War was rapidly gaining the upper paw, battering Solarstorm into the ground with powerful blows. "Worthless piece of cougar dung!" War bellowed but he was over-confident and open to attack. Solarstorm seized the chance and kicked out War's rear legs which sent the tom tumbling backwards, crashing his head against the cold stone and knocking him out.

  • Hiss bit her lip and entered the place where no stars would shine. There were a lot more cats in this part of Silverpelt now for some reason, and it was nearly unbearable with the desperate souls. She couldn't wait until she could slip back into Earthberry.

Earthberry flinched. "Who's the Healer here?"

  • "Anyone know herblore?" Earthberry asked, hoping that at least there'd be some cat around to heal the two fighting ones.

  • Soundwave, Copper, Sage, Vortex, Famine, Pestilence, Death, Solarstorm, Primeheart and Redwolf shook their heads. "We will also require a Herb Master in order to help my son." Soundwave spoke up, turning his head to look back at the herb den where Frenzyclaw was hidden away.
