Minnowkit woke up in the medicine den. She didn't know where she was, or what was happening. She just knew she couldn't trust these cats.

Foxtail looked at Minnowpaw. "The kit's awake!" He called.
Minnowkit stared up at Foxtail. "Who are you?" she spat, fur bristling. Eyes narrow, she lashed out at him, narrowly missing.
Foxtail looked at her sympathetically. "I'm your Clanmate, Minnowkit. Foxtail. You're safe now."
Minnowkit closed her eyes. "No you aren't."
"Minnowkit... You're ill. But you can snap out of it." Foxtail encouraged her, "Just... Try and remember your mama's face for me, could you?"
"I-I-I can't."
"poor thing..." Foxtail was upset inside for her, "It's gonna bee OK. You need to trust me."
"Oh, yes, I trust you completely," Minnowkit lied, though her soft voice gave no intention of the fib. She had a flashback to what the tom who pulled her out of the river had told her...
"Minnow," the dark brown tabby tom had said when she woke up. "I was getting worried you wouldn't ever get up." "W-who are you?" Minnowkit had hissed, gazing into his sly amber eyes. "I am Talon," he told her. "You should remember me... But then, you have amnesia." "Ah-nee- what?" Minnowkit giggled, the word rolling off her tongue. Talon, however, was serious. "You've lost all your memories, Minnow. See, for the last two moons, you have been pretending to be Minnowkit of RiverClan." "W-why is that?" Minnowkit asked quietly, nervous. "You were to report to me with their secrets." "Why?" Minnowkit replied, tail lashing. "Why should I trust you?" "I am your father," he said softly. "RiverClan cats killed your mother, and you promised you would help me get revenge on them." "Oh." Minnowkit thought it over. "Okay, then. What should I do?" "Let the Clan know you have amnesia. They'll remind you of RiverClan things, which you are to tell me everynight." Minnowkit's eyes glimmered with excitement. "Okay, daddy!" "Very good." Talon froze. "I hear a patrol! Lay down!" With that he ran out.
Of course, Talon had been lying. He was formerly Eagletalon, brave warrior of RiverClan, but had been kicked out when he murdered his own apprentice, Maplepaw. And RiverClan had fought hard to save Quickbreeze, Minnowkit's mother, but failed, after a vicious dog attack. Minnowkit- or, as she thought, Minnow- knew none of this. She believed she was doing the right thing. Don't blow your cover! she thought, glancing up at Foxtail.
Foxtail looked down at Minnowkit. There was something in her face he couldn't read...
"I'll be fine," she lied in an assuring tone. "You're a good friend... um..." she tried hard to remember the cat's name. "Foxtail."
"Minnowkit... Is there anything you want to tell me?"
"Of course not," she replied calmly. "Why would I lie to you?"
"...No reason."
"If you don't mind, I'm going to my nest," she said coolly, scenting the air in the nursery and padding to the nest with her scent.
Foxtail sat outside. He wanted to keep an eye on her.
As the sun sank and the moon rose, Willowkit failed to see Foxtail's shadowy figure. Padding out of camp, she found Talon. "Haven't learned anything,' she admitted.
"FIGURE SOMETHING OUT THEN!" he roared, slashing at her. She ran to camp.
Foxtail confronted Talon, "Greetings." He meowed cooly.
Talon froze, then faced Foxtail. "And who might you be?" he said smoothly.
Foxtail ignoredhim, "What do you want with that kit?"
