  • "Not if it's beyond your ability," Greenbriar replied. "And certainly not all the way. Just see what you can do; it comes naturally for some cats."

  • WinterPaw looked at the tree that towered over their heads. "I can do this." WinterPaw meowed trying to convince GreenBriar she could but she was also convincing herself as well. WinterPaw slowly walked up to the tree and placed her white paw on the trunk of it slowly unsheathing her claws. I can do this....I can do this... WinterPaw repeated in her head several times before she slowly began to attempt to climb the large tree. Then time seemed to slow for WinterPaw and she sank her claws into the soft part. Well step 1 was over but there were more to come. WinterPaw went pawstep by pawstep sinking her front and back claws into the bark of the old tree. But when she put her last back leg up on the tree she lost her balance and quickly fell over landing on her back. It didn't hurt of course because she didn't even climb very high but she growled in frustration and she got up shaking her fur.

  • Greenbriar raced over, then let out a small sigh of relief when she saw that Winterpaw was alright. "Try not to cling to the trunk so long. Get one hind leg up, then push off as you raise the other one and keep going until you reach a branch. Lean forward slightly and spread your limbs out to keep your weight from pulling you back," she advised. "Like this." The she-cat cat slowly climbed up onto a low branch.

  • WinterPaw watched her mentor easily climb the tree. WinterPaw just wanted to say show off but GreenBriar was more experienced then her so it wouldn't have been fair. WinterPaw then walked back up to the trunk of the tree and placed her paws on the trunk sinking her claws into the bark. She then quickly got all four paws on the tree and followed what GreenBriar said. WinterPaw used her back legs to push herself forward. She then did it again several times before reaching the branch GreenBriar was on and she then realized she was holding her breath. She released the breath she was holding and took a deep breath to calm herself as her eyes widened as she looked down.

  • "Pretty good," Greenbriar commented. "But don't go any higher than this until you've really got the hang of it." She lept the fox-length down and looked up at Winterpaw. "I want you to practice going up and down from that branch until you don't have to think about it."

  • WinterPaw shifted her paws on the branch. "UP and DOWN?! How am I supposed to do that!" WinterPaw asked worried she didn't liked heights and there was probably a reason why. She sank her claws into the bark hoping she wasn't going to fall off as she looked down at the ground below.

  • "It isn't that high, Winterpaw. Just jump to the ground," Greenbriar mewed patiently as she could.

  • WinterPaw's tail tip twitched as she looked at GreenBriar. Then tensing her muscles she launched herself off the branch and landed on the ground. She then stood up and looked back at the tree. I now officially hate heights WinterPaw concluded

  • Greenbriar flicked her tail at the tree. "Come on, it can't be that bad. Maybe two more times?" she mewed, not as tactful as she possibly should have been.

  • WinterPaw nodded and went back to the tree. ((Imma do a time skip XD Don't really feel like typin today.)) WinterPaw landed on the ground a second tim and this time wasn't as scared to climb the tree.

  • "Okay, good. We'll work climbing each morning," Greenbriar informed her as she started off again. "Have you caught something for the elders today?"

  • WinterPaw slowly shook her head. "Do you want me to go catch something real fast?" WinterPaw meowed

  • Shrugging, Greenbriar said "Time doesn't really matter. I'd like to watch you catch it, though, to see how your technique is coming along."

  • WinterPaw quickly nodded and walked through the forest silently her eyes glancing around looking for prey. WinterPaw then gaped her large jaws and tasted the scents in the forest. She caught the scent of a wood pigeon and quickly walked in the direction of the scent. WinterPaw smiled because she knew that wood pigeons were fat and could feed up to about 2 cats which would be great for the clan sinc it had several in the clan. Her body froze for a second when she spotted the wod pigeon on a root of a tree. WinterPaw silently crepted forward making sure not to step on any sticks on dead leaves. She spaced out her paws to destribute her weight as she moved closer. Her white tail was parrallel to the ground and stayed that way. WinterPaw then stopped moving when she was in striking range. WinterPaw tensed her back leg muscles and leaped at the pigeon quickly and landed on it before it could even spread its wings. WinterPaw killed it quicklty by snapping its neck.

  • "Excellent. Soon there won't be much more I can teach you," Greenbriar commented. "Take that back to camp, unless you want to catch more."

  • WinterPaw purred at the thought of becoming a warrior soon. She buried her wood pigeon and decided to go look for more prey in HawkClan territory. WinterPaw parted her jaws slightly as she tasted the air. She quickly caught the scent of a mouse near bye and slowly stalked toward the direction it was emitting from. WinterPaw stopped her movements when she spotted the creature. WinterPaw moved closer toward the mouse until it was in her striking range. WinterPaw slowly slid out her razor sharp claws and then leaped into the air catching the mouse by surprise. WinterPaw landed on its head and its body wiggled to get away but she stopped its suffering by killing it with a bite to the neck.

  • Figuring she should get at least a mouse or two herself, Greenbriar wandered off in search of prey. A scarlet wing flashed at the edge of her vision; she looked over to see a cardinal, coming down to land. Fast as an adder, she lept forward and smacked the bird with her paws. It fell to the ground, stunned, and she finished it off by twisting its neck.

  • WinterPaw gathered up her mouse and wood pigeon and looked around for GreenBriar. But she shrugged her shoulders knowing GreenBriar could get to camp on her own. WinterPaw held both the mouse and the pigeon in her jaws as she walked back toward camp.

  • Greenbriar headed back, and found Winterpaw's fresh scent. So she came through here, didn't see me, went to camp, the reddish-brown she-cat concluded. And I'll go too, once I find more prey. She strayed back into the woods, and noticed small holes in the snow - burrows. Greenbriar dug vigorously until she unearthed a few mice, curled up in their nests. One fled, but she grabbed the others before they could follow. Stuffing them in her jaws and tucking the cardinal under her chin, she jogged back into camp.

  • WinterPaw had just dropped her freshkill onto the pile when she saw GreenBriar walking into camp her mouth full of mice. She must have found a nest. WinterPaw concluded as she walked up to her mentor. "Woah great catch!" WinterPaw meowed looking at the mice.
