  • WinterPaw nodded and followed her mentor her paws landing lightly on the ground barely disturbing a few leaves and sticks. Her white fur had become ruffled from the wind and she shook her body trying to make her fur lie flat.

  • Greenbriar walked through the forest until they reached an area where the ground was littered with jagged rocks. Skillfully climbing over the stones, Greenbriar came to an enormous boulder. A fir tree stood on top, roots dangling down over the crumbling rock.

  • WinterPaw looked down at the jagged rocks. Her paws shifted at the thought of falling onto one of them. But tensing her muscles she leaped lightly on all the rocks and landed next to GreenBriar. She felt a sting in her left paw but she didn't show it. WinterPaw then looked at the giant tree. "How does it survive in this?" WinterPaw meowed curiously

  • "To be perfectly honest, I don't understand it," Greenbriar admitted. "It's definitely more tenacious than most trees here. Its roots have wedged into cracks in the rock, making them wide enough for prey to slip into."

  • WinterPaw kept looking at the tree as she sat down her tail curling around her. "Then I bet you have to be quick to catch prey here before it disappears." WinterPaw meowed wondering how anyone could hunt in this terrain.

  • "Yes, you do," Greenbriar agreed, scenting the air. "But it mainly takes patience."

  • WinterPaw tilted her head slightly. "So what prey is available here?" WinterPaw said her gold eyes scanning the area for movement while the tip of her tail twitched.

  • "Mostly small rodents, a few bats," Greenbriar replied. "There are reptiles too, but they're hardly ever active when it's cold, and we can find better prey when it's not."

  • WinterPaw scrunched up her nose at the thought of bats. "We eat bats? Why? WinterPaw meowed disgusted at the thought of eating a bat.

  • "Well, not usually," Greenbriar admitted. "The forest is pretty rich now, but there have been worse times."

  • WinterPaw's ears perked at GreenBriar's words as she turned her head toward her mentor. "Like when?" WinterPaw meowed curious to hear the stories of when HawkClan was in hard times.

  • OOC: just FYI, I am totally making this up.

IC: Greenbriar sighed as she recalled her vague memories. "Once... when I was a kit... we had a terrible draught. So much prey died of thirst or left, that even a bat would have been considered food. The fatalities were few, thank Starclan." There was a hint of sorrow in her voice, and she pronounced 'few' as if it were a terrible curse.

  • OOC: Hahaha Okay

WinterPaw looked down and had a feeling some of GreenBriar's friend or family had been killed in the drought. "Thats terrible." WinterPaw meowed sadly.

  • Greenbriar swallowed painfully and began heading off. "That was all moons ago. We should keep moving before it gets dark."

  • WinterPaw nodded and padded after GreenBriar. Her gold eyes looked up at the sky seeing it turn into numerous colors as it neared moonhigh

  • "There's another border I want to show you. After that, we head back to camp," Greenbriar mewed decisively, as they headed into in area where the trees grew large.

  • WinterPaw quickly padded after her mentor. Occasionally she glanced up seeing that the trees started to gradually get larger. Have I been in this part of the forest before? WinterPaw thought as she turned her head forward climbing over branches and occasionally rocks that were layed in her path.

  • Greenbriar reached the border. "Beyond this is the Black Forest. A bit further away is Aura Grove, where Teknihclan lives," she told Winterpaw. The enormous old trees shut out almost all the light from the moon and stars.

  • WinterPaw tilted her head. "Black Forest? TEknihClan? Aura Grove? I've never heard of any of this." WinterPaw was surprised that HawkClan territory was so vast!
