Prologue
A thunder storm approached a dark cemetery. Thunder rolled in the clouds making an enormous crackle. Fate seemed to blow in the wind making living creatures disappear. A young girl with black, silky hair that fluttered to her waist with bulging blue eyes sat curiously in a frail tree. She dug her claws in the branch as her wings danced around her. Her pale skin didn’t seem to blend in. She pulled her chest in and stretched her long wings. She heard a twig snap not too far away from her and whispers.
“Elgro, what about the boy?” she heard one whisper.
“I told you! Grab him before anything else!” Elgro hissed.
“Elgro! What about the protector?!” the man spat. Elgro began to mutter something under his breath.
“Dorgan, can’t you shut up for five seconds!?” he growled. “The whole cemetery can hear you!” Dorgan rolled his eyes then blew a puff of fire in annoyance. When the men came into view she could see what they were. Elgro had golden with orange streaks in his hair with green eyes and heavy metal. Dorgan had white hair with small dragon-like wings that were red. His eyes were red and he too, wore shiny armor. Dorgan sniffed the icy air and sneezed. “Sarathan.” he hissed. Elgro smiled sweetly.
“Come o—“ He was interrupted when the branch she was sitting on had crack and spilt open and she went tumbling to the wet, muddy ground. The rain came down harder as if the ancestors were furious.
“Just in time. Name?”
“Sayo.” she whispered. Elgro smiled at her and lifted an eyebrow.
“Born at night--right?”
“Yeah.” Dorgan coughed and whistled. Elgro let out a growl.
“What’s with you today!?”
“HELLO!? SARATHAN!!” Dorgan hissed. “They deserve to die!” His words stung Sayo. She spread out her wings and sprang at Dorgan letting out an inhuman-like screech. Elgro watched with amusement. Sayo raised her hand and slashed Dorgan across his face. He yelped in pain and bit back tears then batted her stomach with his boots. Sayo flew up then dived like a missile at Dorgan. Dorgan roared and began to change. He grew a tail with dozens of spikes, long legs with enormous claws. His wings grew very large--he was a dragon. Sayo wasn’t surprised; she smelled the stench all over him. She slashed his back and Dorgan spun his head snapping for her wings. Sayo screech her eerie scream and clasped her hands together. When she pulled her hands apart and a shadow bolt was inside. Sayo shot it at Dorgan as he squeaked in surprise. The thunder slashed across the sky and shook the earth.
“The Gods are mad!” Sayo yelped.
“I’ll be back. You’ll never forget me, will you?” Dorgan sneered.
“No. I won’t” she hissed.
“Dorgan! Make haste! We leave this place!” Elgro and Dorgan disappeared in the quivering trees, leaving Sayo terrified. A tree collapsed and knocked her down. “Help!” A black shadow was next to her.
“Sayo! Sayo?! Stay with me!!” her brother screamed as she closed her eyelids and blacked out.
Chapter 1; Found
Logan, a teen with jet black hair snatched up his book bag. “Bye, mom!” he called, his chocolate brown eyes wide with rush and worry. “Bye!” Logan zoomed outside as the bus honked franticly. He panted as he climbed the steps and looked for a seat… except one. A girl was lying in the seat with her hair covering her face. Her black hair ran past her waist. She wore a black shirt with black skinny jeans.
“May I sit here?” The girl looked up with a frown.
“Fine.” She growled. Logan sighed with relief and put his stuff on the floor. The odd girl moved her legs and as he sat down she threw her legs on him.
“Hey!”
“You owe me.” She smiled.
“Who are you??”
“Someone. You?”
“Logan.” She smiled.
“Sup, Logan.”
“Sup.” The girl laughed then slugged Logan’s shoulder.
“You’re a cool kid.” Logan forced a smile then looked away. Awkward…. he thought. The bus slowed to a stop and Logan grabbed his stuff.
“Bye, Someone.” He waved. She smiled at him.
“Bye, Logan.” Logan ran off the bus and into the building. Where’s Mr.Flyyn’s room?! he thought.
Finally he came across Mr.Flyyn’s classroom. Logan stumbled in and then he saw-- the girl on the bus!! She smiled at his and patted the desk. How did she get there so fast? He walked over to the desk and sat. She took his stuff and gently under his desk. Mr.Flyyn cleared his throat, “Good morning! My name is Mr.Flyyn.” Logan sighed and looked around. The girl grinned and pinched him.
“Hey!” Logan whispered.
“Keep your clothes on! Look!” She pointed to Mr.Flyyn’s computer. On it was a song.
“Red eyes! Throw your glasses at the camera then dive!” Mr.Flyyn ran to his computer and closed the lid while everyone exploded with laughter. He cleared his throat again. “Ok, calm down. Get out your Math Binders.” Logan went to get his binder then looked up. His binders were placed neatly on his desk. Confused, he sat up while the girl smiled.
“Thanks?”
“You’re welcome!” Logan looked around for his pencil and sure enough…. it was there. Logan gave a small smile and this is where friendship came. When math was over he stood up and went to his next class. When he walked into Mrs. Ryan’s classroom he saw the girl again! She gave a sly smile and pointed to her desk. Logan swallowed hard then sat by her.
“Hey knucklehead!” she laughed.
“H-h-hello.” Logan stammered. She laughed awkwardly. When the next class came she was there AGAIN!!! Same old same old. When school was over he went on his bus to go home and the girl was there patting his seat. Logan nodded tiredly and sat down. She gently placed her legs on him. The bus stopped and Logan ran to his house. The girl stopped smiling and yanked out her cellphone. She called Ekio.
“Sayo?”
“Yeah hey- I found him.”
The next day, Logan ran on the bus and sat by the girl. Halfway into the ride the bus jerked to a stop. Everyone screamed. Why are they screaming? The bus doors opened and a man with red and orange hair stepped in.
“Where’s Logan!?” Logan swallowed hard then raised his hand. The girl pushed his hand down. “What are you doing!?” she hissed. Too late. The man walked towards Logan.
“Are you Logan?” Logan’s words were stuck in his throat. The man pulled out a picture then looked at Logan.
“Yep!” The man grabbed his hand and dragged his across the bus.
“Leme’ go!” Logan screeched. The man ignored him. Logan twisted free and ran to the back of the bus and shoved open the door. The man growled and leaped for Logan. Logan tried to jump out the door but the strange man snagged his collar. Logan hacked up spit and was dragged across the buss. Why won’t someone help me?! Wait-- their frozen! He kicked franticly and screamed for help. The girl leaped out of the seat and gave an inhuman-like screech. Her clothes split and she wore black armor with black wings. She sliced the man’s face with her long claws and crimson blood oozed out of the opened wound.
“Sayo!”
“Elgro!” Sayo hissed back. Elgro punched Sayo and slammed her against the bus window. Logan reached in his book bag and pulled out a gun. He pulled the trigger and shot Elgro in the back. Elgro gasped with pain and turned to Logan. He grabbed Logan and tried to run off the bus. Sayo did the eerie screech again and grabbed Logan. “AHHH!!!” Sayo flew out the bus and screeched fire at Elgro.
“I’ll be back!!” he screamed. Sayo flew as far away as she could.
“What’s going on!?” Logan screamed.
“Shhh...” Sayo soothed. Logan shivered and looked around.
“Ekio, I got him.” Logan looked at her confused. Sayo pulled Logan to her chest. “Sorry, Logan.” She gave him a shot and his eye’s drooped. Logan slowly fell asleep. Sayo “hugged” him and flew in an underground tunnel. Ekio escorted them into a bright room. Sayo laid Logan on a bed and Ekio strapped him in.
“What!? You are not changing him!!” Sayo growled.
“I can if I want to!!” Ekio snapped. Sayo hissed at Ekio.
“You may be my brother but, you can’t change him!!!!” Ekio rolled his eyes. Sayo looked at him with pleading eyes. “No.” She narrowed her eyes at Ekio. Ekio pressed the buttons and a wolf came out. He strapped the wolf to the bed next to Logan. Sayo frowned with an expression that said, Are you sure?? Ekio rolled his eyes again and pulled a switch. A burst of electricity erupted from above the wolf and Logan. Sayo shield her eyes with her arms. There was a loud splitting sound and the machine cut off. The machine sputtered and coughed. “What’s going on!?” Ekio shielded his eyes then slowly moved his arms down. Sayo and Ekio heard a tiny cry while then exchanged nervous glances. Sayo crept up to the bench and saw a black fuzz ball. She gently scooped up the small fuzzy ball.
“WHAT DID YOU DO!!!???” Sayo screamed.
“I didn’t do anything!” Ekio snapped. “The controls went Waco on me!!” Sayo growled.
“What are we gonna tell his parents?” He shrugged. Sayo pulled Logan closer to her breasts. Ekio growled. “What do you wanna name him?” Sayo stroked his head then gave a shrug.
“Something… special.”
“How about--Logan.” Ekio chuckled. Sayo nodded. “Sounds good.” Ekio raised an eyebrow. “Wow.” Sayo sighed and turned around to hear a familiar voice, “What’s up?” Sayo and Ekio’s jaws dropped. “L-L-Logan?”
“Yeah?”
“Do you know what you look like?”
“No--why?” Sayo dropped the fuzz and got a mirror. She fumbled to him and held it up. Logan peered into it. Logan’s eyes grew big and he let a howl of agony. “WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO ME!?” Logan’s howls were terrible. It sounded like a dog was being split in-two. Sayo and her brother clamped their hands over their ears. Sayo shook her head and screamed, “LOGAN!! QUIT HOWLING!!!”
“NO!!”
“WHY!?”
“LOOK AT ME!! TAKE ONE LOOK AT ME AND YOU’LL SEE!!” Her mouth closed slowly and she looked at him. A black, fluffy wolf stood before her, his jaw clasped together like glue. Sayo sighed and he howled again. Sayo leaped on his with her screech. Logan went down with an oof! Sayo pressed her hands over his snout. “Stop.” she whispered softly. Logan let out a small whimper and tried to shake free. Sayo’s eyes grew wide as she was flung off and crashed into the wall. She let out a gasp and held her chest when she hit the ground. Logan stood frozen and crept up to her. Sayo shot him a threatening glance at him and leaped on him. Logan snarled and clamped him teeth on her leg. He tasted warm blood and shook. Sayo screamed and aimed to slash his eyes. Logan pulled back then scratched her leg. Crimson blood oozed out, splattering on the ground. She opened his jaws and stuck to the wall like velvet. “I-I-I-I-I-I-I- How!?” she said, shocked. His eyes glared at her with fury. Logan snarled at her and spun around. He head for the door. Sayo ran in front of him. “You WON’T be leaving here.” she growled. Logan bared his teeth and took a step forward.
“Step-away-now.”
“No.”
“Then pay the price!” he snarled, lunging at Sayo. Ekio leaped in front of them. “Stop!” he screamed. “I thought you two were friends!” Logan stopped growling and Sayo stopped trying to break free from Ekio. Logan sighed and stepped back from Ekio. “I-It’s the change….” he whispered. Logan seamed breathless like every drop of his energy and mind had been taken away, hidden. Sayo began to cry while Ekio tried to comfort her. Logan shrugged past them and out the door.
Chapter 2; The Runaway
Logan ran out of the tunnel, panting. His eyes flickered with fear as he heard voices close in on him. Logan thundered away, as fast as his paws could carry him. Come, on! Run! He heard an inhuman screech and his pelt stood on end. He didn’t stop running or make a sound, even though he felt like wailing like a lost pup. Boy, do I wish I was a lost pup! Logan thought. He felt like he was shrinking. Wha-?! I’m a pup! Awesome!! Logan dived into a bush and wanted to cry. The voices got closer and closer. God, save me! he thought, sadly. He heard Sayo first. “Go that way! I’ll follow the train tracks.” Logan held his breath as Ekio bumped the bushes. He didn’t see Logan and continued walking. Logan let out his breath and smiled. But it’s not over…yet.
