the third year of college is a rough one. you're not new to the scene, been in this routine for a while and all the sparkle and shine of college has become dull. you can't slack off just yet because you're not a senior, third year is basically the middle child of college. however there's one upside if you're a student of the University of Oregon and becoming a third year; moving out of the dorms. UO lets their juniors and above move out of the dorms and into nearby apartments, as long as they maintain a good enough gpa. Andromeda Macaffe, some guy and a mutual friend have decided to move into an apartment together. things were going, somewhat great, their mutual friend being the peace keeper for the first half of Andromeda's third year; however, said friend had some big family issues and had to move out. they left Andromeda and insert name plenty of money to cover their share of the rent, but the big problem is that Andromeda and insert name are polar opposites. things are BOUND to not go well

  • sorry it took so long! i wanted to flesh him out a bit while i had time, i kept going back and forth on his character/who i wanted him to be

  • you’re totally fine !! i’m still at work for about another hour but I LOVE HIM ??andy probably calls him willy as a joke/to get on his nerve & then caleb probably calls her andromeda and that shuts her up

  • aww thank you!! i was debating between more a jock personality or a down to earth, average dude who spends more time gaming than socializing and decided to do the latter. i can definitely see them teasing each other like that

  • im not sure where we should start so we can probably just wing it. maybe its the first full day the roommate has left? they can be arguing about what to do with the spare room, trying to decide if they want another roommate, etc

ooc: sorry ! i was working on a form for another thread and trying to find a good fancypost but i'm HERE

ic: anxious. that was the only feeling in andromeda's head as she woke up that morning. her third roommate has just officially moved out last night, this was the first night without them and andy felt the tension in the air before she ever left her room. it just so happened that it was also the first day of the spring semester, and her now only roommate caleb probably didn't have class til later. rolling over in bed, she reached for her phone and saw the text from their old roommate, wishing her a good first day. wow she already missed them so much. they were the only reason that andy and caleb didn't rip at each other's throat 24/7, caleb always seemed to rub andy the wrong way. honestly, at this point andy couldn't even remember why they didn't like each other, but she wasn't about to give up her pride and let the grudge die.

after scrolling on social media for a few minutes, andy deemed it was time to get out of bed and get ready for her first class of the day; sight reading. a groan escaped her mouth, she knew how to read music like she reads every day; it was basically a second language to her but she needed it for her degree. connecting her phone to her boothtooth speaker in her room, she put on her favorite playlist which was filled with an accumulation of songs she found throughout the year. she made sure for it not to be too loud, having dealt with caleb before and how he didn't like being woken up by her music.

andy sat in front of her vanity, all her makeup displayed in front of her and her feeling absolutely no motivation to put on any makeup. she settled for a simple look, light red/pinkish eyeshadow, light eyeliner, some blush and her favorite shade of deep red lipstick. twisting her hair up into a classy bun, she finally turned to her closet, choosing a random top with her favorite jeans and throwing on her sneakers. being satisfied with how she looked, she figured she should make some breakfast before she went.

lucky for caleb, andy was an amazing cook and out of habit made too much food. she rolled her eyes, hoping he wouldn't give her a hard time for this but she really had to go. packaging up the eggs and bacon to put in the fridge & grabbing the butter for her toast, she thought about leaving a note... but then decided against it. she quickly buttered her toast, made a sandwhich with her eggs and bacon and ran out the door as she swung her backpack over her shoulder.

caleb woke up to the sound of a door shutting. yawning, he rolled over to find that his clock said 7:38... even though he had set it to go off at 7. "fxck," he said, sitting up quickly in the dark and scrambling to get out of bed. to his demise, he finally had a morning class at 8am, both the earliest he's ever had a class and his first morning class. how he made it this far without having either of those was beyond him, but he didn't care. he couldn't be late to the first class of the semester.

luckily for him, he had showered the night before so all he had to do was get dressed and maybe eat. he was only disappointed because he wanted to go out for breakfast, but food at home would have to do. he smacked the light on for his bedroom, sidestepping the absolute mess that his room was to get to his second laundry bin. yes, he's too lazy to just put his clothes away, so he has one clean bin, and one dirty bin. most of those dirty clothes were also on his floor. he picked out sweatpants and a random shirt, deciding comfort over aesthetic was the move today, and walked back over to the door.

"andy?" he called out, walking through the hallway to the kitchen and seeing that her bedroom door was open. 'huh, she must have left already.' he thought to himself. he stopped at the third door, the empty room, having completely forgotten that their third roommate had already left and moved out. caleb was more upset about it than he'd like to admit, he actually loved that roommate. caleb prided himself on being easy to get along with, but for some reason he could never get along with andy without someone else there to..translate, he supposed? he wasn't sure, they disagreed on just about everything and what they did agree on they wanted to go about it different ways so he made it a habit to not speak up unless it has to do with him directly.

by now caleb had made it to the kitchen and was eating a bowl of cereal. whose cereal it was didn't matter, cus they were about to go to the store anyway and caleb was out of his. he was sure andy might be mad about that too, but that would just mean he'd have to replace the food before she got home. pondering about how long it would take to fight about that too, caleb wrapped up eating his cereal and rinsed out the bowl in the sink, threw the box away, and went to the bathroom to brush his teeth.

"dude, what the-" holy crap, how much do girls shed? there was so much hair! caleb was about 30 seconds to snapchatting addy to ask "what the everliving hell did you grow" before he realized the color of the hair didn't match hers, it was their old roommates. well, they weren't here to clean it, so caleb decided he might as well. maybe it would make up for eating addy's cereal? caleb took a grand 30 seconds to clean and brushed his teeth after swiping up the hair with a napkin and throwing it away. checking his phone again to see if he got a response, he saw how much time he had killed and realized he needed to leave. caleb jogged to his room to grab his school bag, and quickly left the apartment, locking the door behind him and speeding to make it to class on time.

    ooc:

ic: andy couldn't believe she got stuck with an 8am class. out of all the years of college, this was the first 8am class; however she was willing to take it because then she didn't have another class till 1pm and then another right after that. once andy was done in her first class, she headed back home. glancing at her phone after class she saw she got a notification from caleb. sure, like it would actually be a thank you text about the extra food. she opened the snap and felt her eyes immediately roll. of course caleb would see hair and blame her, not even taking into consideration that the hairs in the bathroom didn't match up with hers at all.

she didn't bother responding. if he wanted to yell at her, he could do it when she got home. opening the door then shutting it behind her, andy plopped herself on the couch.

"one of the pluses of being a music major? virtually no homework." her own voice sounded smug but she laughed it off. it was about time that andy had a break from killing herself with homework. make no mistake, andy took her school work very seriously and she excelled greatly in all her classes; she just never seemed to have any homework.

the biggest thing looming over her was her final project in her song writing class; writing, singing and producing an original song. andy had no trouble with making tracks, layering them, and adding a little flare. her real trouble was coming up with lyrics. she had always struggled with words and what to say and how to put it in a song.

andy pulled out a notebook from her backpack, one she always kept for song brainstorming. it was currently filled with time stamps of different songs where she liked a certain bass line or harmony or just random noise. it was filled with ideas for a song, all the base parts that talked about the instruments involved, even the overall vibe of said song; but never any lyrics.

andy laid on that couch, the tv on in the background as she tried to write and figure out some kind of lyrics, and without realizing it, she fell asleep at 9:28 am.

"hmm, do i want applejacks or cookie crunch?" caleb turned to his friend, who decided to throw both boxes in the cart.

"no, i dont need both of them." he said, smacking his friend's hand. colson, a blonde with green eyes, yanked his hand back, but not in time to avoid the smack.

"you eat enough that you'll need two boxes of whatever you get anyway. might as well get two." caleb sighed and continued pushing the cart, apparently deciding that his friend was right. "how are things going anyway? didn't your other roommate move out?" colson asked, following caleb as he turned into another aisle.

"oh, yeah, i forgot i hadn't told you about that." caleb started to lift a case of dr. pepper into his cart. "yeah, he/she moved out a few days ago. it's just me and my other roommate addy now."

colson made a funny face that caleb decided to ignore. "i thought you didn't like her?"

"i don't actually have an issue with her. i don't know it's just weird." he looked at his cart for a second, then decided to also grab a case of mountain dew. "i don't even remember how it started, but there's a lot of tension between us. i can't tell you a single mean or strange thing she's done to me but the atmosphere is just..." caleb made a fart noise and shrugged, walking back over to the cart and putting the mountain dew inside of it. "i don't know."

"well, that sounds terrible. are you guys getting another roommate then?" colson asked, following caleb to the frozen section.

"i don't know. i don't think we really need the money, we have another month before we have to worry about it. i can afford half the rent if she wants to wait to get someone else. the other roommate gave us money for next month to cover their old rent so i'm just waiting to see what happens." he paused at the ice cream section. "do i want-"

colson was quick to respond. "no."

    "im no that lacto-"

    "yes you are."

"you're no fun colson." caleb grabbed two pints anyways, one for him and one for addy. "alright, im checking out then going home. are you coming with me?"

colson shook his head. "i have work in the morning."

"see? absolutely no fun at all."

    ------------

caleb was normally pretty quiet about carrying his groceries inside, but the damn lock was stuck and he couldnt get his key to fit inside of it. "c'mon," he begged, trying to twist the key even though it hadn't been moving at all the past two or three minutes he'd been trying. "i have cold crap in my car."

with his heart sinking in his chest, he dug his phone out of his pocket and dialed addy's number, hoping she wasn't asleep or worse, not home and was unable to let him in.

ooc: just a lil reminder her nickname is "andy" like from toy story ! unless you wanna play through that he calls her addy to annoy her & whenever she corrects him he's just like "oh sorry ANDROMEDA"

ic: andy was jolted awake from her nap by her phone ringing. i HAVE to change my ringtone, nothing caused her heart to beat faster than her phone alarm/ringtone going off. she found her phone and saw who was calling. a sigh escaped her mouth as she answered.

    "hi? hello? what's happening?"

andy's voice was fast and it was very noticeable that she was catching her breath. she wanted to go off on him for waking her up from her nap, but she remembered how their peace maker wasn't there anymore. it caused her to think before she spoke, realizing he probably had no idea she was asleep, but that couldn't hide the annoyance in her voice when she answered

  • CALEB JOHNSON

//i actually forgot, thanks for correcting me!!

"hey, can you get the door if you're here? my key must be bent or something, i can't get it to fit inside the lock again." unfortunately this was a reoccurring issue for the young adult, this was just the first time he had to call andy instead of their other roommate. he could tell she may have been... jogging in place? lifting something? oh no, did she have a guy over and he interrupted? he was never going to hear the end of that one if he barged in on something like that. he supposed that either way, she stopped whatever she was doing so hopefully if she was home she'd let him in.

putting the phone on his shoulder and holding it in place with his head, he decided to pick up a few of the bags, leaving the last few bags and cases of drinks by the door to carry on his second trip. normally he would try to carry it all in one go, but didn't really care to break his phone for the hundredth time. his ex finally got him to fix the huge crack in his screen, and wasn't in any sort of rush to break it again.

    ooc:

ic: andy's face scrunched up in confusion, knowing full well that caleb couldn't see her face.

"uh.. yeah sure." she had to wake her brain up to fully understand what was happening. it always took andy a while before she was full awake, which explained why she didn't even think to hide her notebook as she got up from the couch to open the door. she had never showed anyone her notebook, she was pretty sure no one even knew it existed. andy had no idea why she was so secretive of this little thing, she had never even written any lyrics in there, there was no actual words from her own brain in there, yet it was almost a diary to her.

after doing a quick stretch, andy made her way to the door, unlocking and opening it. she glanced at all the bags caleb had and felt her eyebrows naturally knit together.

"guess you went grocery shopping, huh?" andy could feel the awkward tension clinging in the air, and she hated it. she held the door open as caleb came in and she shut and locked the door behind him. after making sure he had all the bags set down, she walked over and started to help put the items away. she felt something in her chest as she saw the box of cookie crsip. it was her favorite cereal. as soon as the thought entered her mind, a new one replaced it. one reminding her that he probably had no idea it was her favorite cereal, reminding her that he probably just got it just to get.

  • CALEB JOHNSON

//sorry it took so long to respond! i was at work all day then ended up going to dinner with my friends

caleb walked in as soon as andy let him inside, plopping all of the stuff down on the ground. "thanks. yeah, i actually ate the rest of your cereal this morning so i figured i should replace it for you. and then while i was there i figured i should get more food." caleb opened the fridge, leaving the cases of mountain dew and dr pepper on the counter. he was a weird person that drank his soda warm. didn't mind cold drinks, so whenever it got moved he never said anything, but he was very strange in that sense. his friends made fun of him all the time for it. he started putting away various items like bacon, eggs and bread.

"did i wake you or something?" he asked, having turned around to put stuff away in the cabinets and saw her stretching. "im surprised you heard your phone." caleb grabbed all the plastic bags he had emptied and tossed them, having a rather large selection of bags already piled up in his bedroom for the trash can by his gaming pc. he definitely didn't need any more.

kicking off his shoes and then leaning it up against the wall to be out of the way, he already felt his feet ease up at the soft feeling of carpet as he walked back into the kitchen and sat on the counter facing andy, opening his container of chips ahoy he just bought. shoving one in his mouth, he held open the container and leaned it out to andy, offering her some.

    ooc: you're totally fine !!

ic: andromeda felt a slight bit of shock in her chest, never even thinking he would feel compelled to replace her cereal. she made sure to keep her emotions away from her face, giving a small nod.

"oh wow, you didn't have to do that. i actually made myself eggs this morning and i'm kinda surprised you didn't eat the leftovers in the fridge. i'm so used to making food for me and our roommate."

andy shrugged and reached for a cookie, chocolate chip cookies being her favorite. she took a bite as he asked his question, quickly bringing a hand up to her mouth so she could speak while chewing.

"yea i kinda passed out on the couch, my default ringtone is also my default alarm and i just haven't changed it to something... that doesn't give me a heart attack."

a small laugh came out of her mouth, a habit that she had developed out of awkward situations; such as this one. she felt the awkward tension in the air and it honestly confused her. she was so used to needing their third roommate to be a peacekeeper but now that it was just her and caleb, she couldn't remember why they need someone to keep the peace.

  • CALEB JOHNSON

"oh fuck, i didn't even think to check the fridge. i actually woke up late and was in a rush," caleb explained, hopping down off the counter and setting his cookies down. leaning over for the dr pepper, he ripped open the box and pulled out a can. he opened it and chugged some of it while andy explained her phone. this was actually...weird? have they even had a conversation this long, just the two of them?

"wow, yeah you might wanna do that." he took another long sip. "i always set mine to the tone of tv shows or video games i like so that i'm at least not annoyed by them." he reached around her to pick up his cookies.

"well, i can leave you alone if you want to go back to sleep." good grief, even having a normal conversation was bizarre. his voice showed a bit of uncomfortability. "or, uh, let you do your own thing. i don't actually know what you do to be honest. i know you like music, but i heard that through our roomie." should caleb address the tension? should he just roll with it? they were both being civil, but if they were going to be living together alone should it be brought up? he decided to just follow her lead.

  • ❝ can't buy me love !

    ooc:

ic: a small laugh came from andy's mouth.

"hey that's pretty smart, i never thought of that."

she finished eating her cookie so she could finally lower her hand. as he spoke, she felt her head tilt to the side; always a s sign of her paying attention.

"oh!" her head perked back up, always loving the chance to talk about her major "i'm actually a music major with a minor in psychology. i have no idea what i'm planning to do with it, but it's what i'm passionate about so that's good enough for me."

andy watched as he hopped off the counter, and decided the counter was a great seat. she walked over to the counter next to where caleb just sat and hopped up on it. her feet began to dangle, every now and then hitting the cabinets under her.

"what about you?" she was grasping at any attempt to make this relationship less awkward

  • CALEB JOHNSON

caleb wouldn't have guessed that andy was minoring in psychology. he wasn't really sure what to expect, but it wasn't that, and it showed with a raise of his eyebrows in surprise. he had always thought the beginner courses in high school of sociology and psychology were fun. he almost took one of those classes as a minor himself.

"i'm here for criminal justice," he responded, shoving another cookie in his mouth, chewing and swallowing before he spoke. "and yeah, it just has to be fun. i feel like there's a lot to do with a musical degree, you just have to find what you like the most out of your options."

well, if only caleb could convince himself. feeling the pressure of going to college by his peers, he went for something he initially had no interest in. and the longer he was in the program, the more he was interested in it but not sure if it was something he wanted to do as a career. so out of laziness of not wanting to go through the hassle of switching or having admitting to wasting all that time, he stayed in it.

  • ❝ can't buy me love !

    andromeda "andy" macaffe

    ooc:

ic: without thinking, a scoff came from her mouth. she was so ready to start defending why she chose music and psychology. she grew up in a family of geniuses, being the daughter of a physicist and astrologist and the youngest sister after a geneticist and surgeon, she never heard the end of how she needs to pick a good career. she went throughout her life always pleasing everyone else, lying to anyone who asked what she was planning to do after high school. always saying she was going to double major in chemistry and physics. it was the only thing andy could think of to not let people down, since each of the macaffe daughters were supposed to be more supportive than the rest.

but when she didn't hear any words of attack or malice from caleb's voice, she was pleasantly surprised.

"if only it was that simple. of course it seems that simple cause that's what i'm doing but it's only because i'm hiding from my parents." andy had no idea what led her to open up that much to caleb, but she figured it was inevitable; being roommates and all.

"but hey, criminal justice is really cool. do you know what you want to do with that?" she quickly thought of another question to ask in hopes that he didn't catch the part of her hiding from her parents.

  • CALEB JOHNSON

"oh damn, unsupported parents are terrible." caleb sympathized. "they always want you to be more than what you even want to be. life is better when you do what makes you happy, and stop living for the approval of others." he didn't want to go on a rant like he usually did with things like this, so decided to just answer andy's question instead. he did feel bad though, he was lucky that his family never really judged him like that. his father never went to college until caleb himself was in middle school, so he supposed there was no reason to judge, but he grew up with a lot of love from his parent and siblings.

"not really. as a kid i had this dream of being a cop, but now i'm not really sure." he explained, setting his cookies down next to her and raising his arms in a stretch. he twisted side to side, his back popping from top to bottom. he continued talking.

"i still think being an officer of some sort would be cool. being an investigator of some sort would be really fun but i don't think i'm smart enough for that." he admitted with a laugh. "i'm actually starting to hate the classes but there are some jobs that i wouldn't mind doing the rest of my life so i guess that's why i haven't changed anything sooner."
