  • IF I WASN'T ME WOULD YOU STILL FEEL ME —

The journey to this new territory was probably the most Ryepaw had moved in her entire life. Early mornings and late nights, it was easy to say she was feeling sleep deprived. Of course, it was in her blood as a warrior and she wasn't really that tired, she was just lazy. Sandy fur mixed with the dusty ground of Windclan's new territory. Ryepaw had stretched out in front of the apprentice den with hopes that she could just lay there with no interruptions. Her clan-mates could judge her, or even compare her to her brother Jackalpaw, but she didn't care. Why should she? It was a waste of energy and she'd rather spend that doing what she loved. Nothing.

Ryepaw's breath threw up dust with every exhale, her cream tabby fur rising and falling in even intervals. The camp was rather quiet as the rest of the cats were out doing warrior things. What a beautiful day it is mmm? I should probably have gone hunting or maybe training. Ahh well, that's a problem for another day. Worry pricked at her paws, blue eyes flicking around the camp for a moment. But just as soon as it came, it was gone. I'll go out tonight again. No one ever said we weren't allowed to do that mhmm. That being said, I better not be bothered about it now.

    // bother her... do it

  • dropping tinture to his eyes, gorsepaw had taken to hiding in the apprentice den to take his medication. his eyesight was permanently blurred now. he prays for the wet mix of herbs to do something as he completes tasks.

still blinking, he doesn't see a long pair of brown legs crossing the apprentice den entrance. his legs are swept from under him, clouds of dust rising as he falls into an embarrassing black tufted heap. he springs up with a shameful hiss, batting a paw in ryepaws direction, face a valley of frowns. "why were your stupid paws lying in front of the den like that! don't you have patrols?"

if ryepaw could see, the area around his slightly unfocused yellow eyes were wet, as if he had cried.

    [ snakekit ] [ snow bengal ] [ 3 moons ] [ female ] [ trad. windclan ] [ gen. 1 ] [ penned by crepuscular ] [ reincarnation of hawkmoth ]

Snakekit peered at the pair from the fresh-kill pile, eyes flitting to the ground every few moments as she didn't want them to catch her staring. She wondered what they were talking about... Apprentice stuff, she assumed. It was kind of funny-- she'd joined WindClan with hopes of more freedom than what she'd had as a kittypet, but now that she was one of their kits she wasn't allowed beyond the reaches of camp.

With three more moons until apprenticeship at the soonest, she'd have to wait as long as she'd lived already all over again. She wasn't aware of this yet, though.

Oh! I could ask those two apprentices over there. She decided, nervously shuffling her way over to Ryepaw and Gorsepaw.

"Hey, um, I'm Snakekit. I haven't been here very long and I wanna know how long it's gonna be before I can start training like you guys." She felt silly for not knowing already, but it wasn't like she was Clanborn. She hadn't been made to feel ashamed of that fact yet, so she didn't realize it was anything potentially embarrassing.

  • ✦ ✧ ✦

Lilypetal headed over to the group of growing younger cats, watching them with her single blue eye, her ears pricked as she listened. The cream point was faintly amused by the blatant laziness of Ryepaw. She hadn't been anything like Ryepaw when she was an apprentice, being constantly full of energy, running around, sneaking out of camp and causing trouble. Although her younger self couldn't relate to Ryepaw, current Lilypetal certainly could. Sometimes she just wanted to lay around and do nothing too, but it always seemed like she was way too busy to catch a break. She was a senior warrior now, and her Clanmates needed her. Deep down, Lilypetal knew that she had a right to take a rest every now and then, but she still struggled to do so out of guilt, out of fear, even. She didn't want her Clanmates to see her as a lazy cat - she wanted them to see her as responsible, smart and talented.

The creamy molly then looked towards Gorsepaw, noticing the wetness around the male's yellow eyes. Has he been crying or something? She then finally looked towards Snakekit, who was asking the pair of apprentices when her own apprenticeship would start.

"Ryepaw, you look more like a rock than a cat," Lilypetal snorted. "Are you planning on doing anything today?" The harshness of her voice came more naturally to Lilypetal than she wanted to admit. Her attitude was growing worse and worse, all because she just felt too insecure about herself. The senior warrior then addressed Gorsepaw. "And you... have you been crying or something? Your eyes look wet." Lilypetal knew what it was like to cry - but it was something that she never did publicly. Generally, she tried to keep a smile on her face, though that wasn't working out too well for her at the moment.

The slender feline then answered Snakekit's question. She knew it hadn't been meant for her, but there was no reason to keep Snakekit waiting. "Should be about three more moons," the cream point answered, adding, "You're three moons at the moment, right?" Lilypetal had grown a lot more observant recently, and she was pretty sure that this kit was about three moons old. She hoped she had gotten it right - it would be quite embarrassing if she had made a mistake.

  • IF I WASN'T ME WOULD YOU STILL FEEL ME —

It was only a matter of time before Ryepaw was disturbed. One could only pray to the stars that it had lasted longer, but alas, it did not. A kick at her paws and sharp words were met by the slow opening of her icy blue eyes. "Well, if you saw me laying here you wouldn't have tripped hmm? Perhaps less crying will do you well." Of course there was no malice or ill intent behind her words. In fact she was just pointing out what she saw, stating facts, and in some way she felt bad for him. She was about to close her eyes once again when the squeak of a young kit entered the conversation. So much for relaxing... She let out a huff as she pulled her body into a seated position. "Well, you see Snakekit..." She was cut off when the senior warrior Lilypetal approached the group, her harsh tone lashing at everyone but the little kit. A soft hiss escaped the apprentice's maw. If there was anything she didn't like as much as being disturbed, it was being interrupted.

"Ahem, as I was saying."The cream tabby shot the senior warrior a glare before returning her gaze to the kit. She had no cares that Lilypetal was older and obviously of a higher position. "Just because you're little doesn't mean you can't begin to practice your hunting crouch already! I'm sure us apprentices can help you with that, right Gorsepaw?" Ryepaw gazed softly down at Snakekit. If there was one thing that would get her out of a lazy mood, it was kits. She loved them. That and sticking up for her den-mates/friends. "Also, Lilypetal. Don't be mean to Gorsepaw. Maybe he was sad he had to wake up early this morning. I know I would have cried too." Her cream tail flicked to lightly touch the other apprentice on the shoulder while a crooked smirk played on her maw. "So, are we going to teach this youngin' a proper hunting crouch or just sit here staring at each other? This does count as doing something, right Lilypetal?" Her eyes flashed challengingly at the senior warrior before casually flicking her tongue over one paw and running it over her ear.

  • gorsepaw grumbles at ryepaws retort knowing he couldn't be as fast to respond as her. ryepaw and lilypetal both focus on his wet eyes so him swipe them, brushing any remnants of wetness from his face. "its just allergies." he slides on, glad when the subject moves to snakekit and her future training as an apprentice though he was shocked ryepaw had brushed lilypetals remarks away so carelessly. it was a bit disrespectful given lilypetal was not only older, but also a senior warrior.

her voice changes in talking to snakekit he notes with a huff. only kits would be free from her ire then. "yes, in the end you have to be able to catch your own prey before going to brightstars meetings. i'll get a mossball to practice on - its going to be funny seeing how you intend to teach." he'd leave just as ryepaw becomes defiant to lilypetal again. did she have a problem with the senior warrior? gorsepaw came back and jokingly dropped the mossball on snakekits head, waiting for the verdict.

  • ✧✦✧ It wasn't often that Birdpaw got upset at anything, but hearing Ryepaw mock Gorsepaw for 'crying' when he was doing no such thing set her fur slightly on edge, nevermind everything else. But Gorsepaw had smoothed it over himself by the time she had arrived to the group, piecing everything together. Her aunt was there, telling off the apprentices- kinda-, Snakekit asking a question, Ryepaw being Ryepaw, and Gorsepaw.

It wasn't like her to be upset, but she was annoyed, enough to make her thoughts known as she stepped up to the group, tone serious. "You should watch yourself, Ryepaw. You can get away with a lot now, but once you're a warrior, you'll be expected to pull your weight," the medicine cat apprentice shot a challenge right back, not liking the way that he looked at her aunt; not really liking the way in which Ryepaw held themselves, laying there on the ground, as though they had every right to do so. They were an apprentice. This was a Clan, and Birdpaw would be hardpressed- yes, even her- to give sympathy to them if they fell behind in their duties. Not now, not ever. It was the Clan code. "So, instead of talking back to Lilypetal, you could do Snakekit a favor and teach them how to hunt," she added, her tone just slightly more light, even if her baby-blue eyes still stared Ryepaw down. "Gorsepaw and I can supervise, and Lilypetal can decide if your efforts count as doing something."

She would nod in response to Lilypetal even though she honestly wasn't too sure. When she was a kittypet she didn't count the passing of time as Clan cats did... but, a few cats had estimated her to be around three moons and Snakekit would trust their expertise.

Her blue gaze fluttered from cat to cat with apprehension-- she'd watched other cats around her age chase around balls of moss and playfully attack them, but she'd yet to try it herself.

I'm probably going to embarrass herself in front of the whole group! She fretted, ears growing warm as the mossball bounced off of her cream, tan-striped head.
