    White Lion

The tall, slender WindClan warrior was half hunting, half idly walking as he headed along the ThunderClan border. He'd already caught a pretty large rabbit, so he wasn't too fussed about catching prey, but of course if Cosmospring came across something, he wouldn't be opposed to catching it.

Cosmospring didn't especially like being alone, though sometimes, such as right now, he chose to do so so that he could focus on himself. The young tabby was a troubled cat, plagued with thoughts about his deceased father, and his mother and siblings, who lived in different Clans from him. Sometimes he found himself wishing that he had chosen to be with at least one of them, rather than deciding to stupidly go for a 'fresh start' in WindClan. But surely it was too late to change his mind now - his family had probably forgotten him by this point, meaning that Cosmospring was completely alone. And that scared the brown and white tom more than he wanted to admit. The companionship of other cats was something that he greatly desired after all.

Spotting a small mouse scurrying close to him, the young warrior began to step more carefully, half heartedly stalking his prey. When he was close enough, he broke into a sprint, following the mouse determinedly. But this one was fast - stupidly fast, like a mouse with the blood of the swiftest WindClan cat. After a while Cosmospring inevitably grew tired, and as the mouse was already far into the distance, he decided to give up, halting, still beside the ThunderClan border, but a fair bit further down.

He wasn't too worried about losing the mouse - the rabbit he had caught would be enough to feed at least two cats after all. But he did hope that nobody had noticed his embarrassing attempt at catching the mouse. Cosmospring was an average hunter, but that mouse... was an incredibly above average runner. The failure was hardly his fault, but other cats might not see it that way. He glanced around, relieved to see none of his Clanmates on WindClan's side of the border.

But when he looked into ThunderClan's territory, he could see the shape of a cat. Cosmospring cursed under his breath, hoping that the ThunderClan warrior hadn't seen the embarrassing display.

Proving to be one of the alabaster's weaknesses, fighting was not his specialty. It had been a few weeks since the raid on BloodClan, a couple weeks since Briarheart was pronounced dead by ThunderClan along with Stagstride and Serpentpaw. Their bodies were never recovered so the Clan assumed the worst of their Clanmates. Throughout the raid, however, Whiteheart had been double-teamed by two BloodClanners. Both cats were smaller than he was and moved quickly. Thanks to his heavy set of fur, it slowed down the senior warrior's movement. Due to this, the BloodClanners were able to do some heavy damage to the senior warrior. And thanks to his overwhelming size, they rode him like a horse through the battle, taking turns jumping onto his back. The bare patches on his sides were enough to prove the dozen times Stitches and Anubys took him for a ride. Never once did Whiteheart fall in battle, but he managed to scrape up some gnarly scars. The worst looking one was on his face: a deep scar stretching from his forehead, through his right eye and down to his right cheek. Wrathion had given Whiteheart the scar initially, which was carved deeper when Anubys had the opportunity to rake his claws in Whiteheart's face later on in the raid. The once kind-looking tomcat was now a scary sight for kits. Even the ThunderClan medicine cats were concerned about his face, prioritizing him over the other injured members of the Clan. To Whiteheart, the only reason he obtained these scars was because he was not strong enough to fight. His skills in combat were lacking, while his hunting skills were on point! He blamed himself for not being able to save Briarheart during the battle. He had seen her lying on the ground close to death, but he turned his back for a second and she was gone; her whole body had up and moved. He didn't see her die. That gave Whiteheart all the confidence in the world to believe that Briarheart was not dead. The only explanation was that she had been taken prisoner by BloodClan. But there was nothing he could do......for now.

Creeping along the ThunderClan-WindClan border, Whiteheart had seen some movement through the trees. There was a strong WindClan scent, which was not the usual scent blown over by the wind. Although, mouse was in the air too. Seeing a scrambling image on the border gave Whiteheart a good enough understanding of what was going on. Although he was in a lot of stress involving the BloodClan and Briarheart situation, the senior warrior couldn't help but let out a chuckle as he bushed through the shrubs. He had not seen the conclusion to the chase, so he was curious.

"How did it go, did you catch it?"

The youth's tall, pointy ears pricked at the sound of the ThunderClanner's chuckle, and he felt his face heat up a little. Did he see? Approaching the border slowly, Cosmospring listened to the white warrior's question. Naturally, his insecure mind got the better of him, and he wondered whether the other male was messing with him and had seen the catch after all.

"Yeah, got it, no problem," the mackerel tabby lied. "You out hunting as well?" The slender warrior asked. The ThunderClanner was alone, so he clearly wasn't patrolling - so maybe he was hunting. Or maybe he wanted to clear his head, as Cosmospring had been doing. He knew nothing about this cat after all, so he couldn't really tell.

The young feline was lying through his teeth, the senior warrior could tell that much. It was the way he replied to Whiteheart's question did he figure out the tomcat's deceit. But that was no matter. If the WindClanner wanted to pretend like he caught it to save himself from embarrassment, then so be it. Letting out a chuckle while thinking about how hard this tom was trying to make it seem like he caught the mouse was amusing. The large tomcat rested his icy blue eyes onto Cosmospring. His eyes were sharp and had veins of red streaking through them from lack of sleep. To be honest, the ThunderClan senior warrior had not slept well since the BloodClan raid. Sleep was a nuisance, it harmed him more than aiding. Mollypaw was getting on him for not sleeping, but that was one wish Whiteheart could not grant.

"In most circumstances, you'd be right. However, today I've decided to just take a walk. There's nothing like walking through the forest on your lonesome to re-analyze your situation." he smiled at Cosmospring, "You never know what sort of opportunities you'll face when your mind is at peace with the world."

Whiteheart was far from being at peace, but he was not lying to the young WindClanner. If everything was normal, this statement would be very true for Whiteheart. Walking through the forest by himself was one of his favorite hobbies. But times were different now. "Well, I mustn't be rude. My name is Whiteheart."

The ThunderClanner's chuckle caught him off guard, and his tail swished a little. Does he find me funny or something? He narrowed his odd eyes at the stranger, trying to get the message across that there was nothing to laugh at. Perhaps, on a different occasion, Cosmospring would have lashed out in response to the white tom's amusement, but right now, he honestly didn't have the energy.

He decided that, while this cat's laughter had frustrated him, he quite liked the way that this cat spoke. He seemed wise, knowledgable, mature... a bunch of traits which Cosmospring lacked. His tall, pointy ears pricked as he listened to the ThunderClanner, his eyes, one green and one blue, fixed on the other tom carefully. Cosmospring was not even aware of the subtle movement, not even aware of how carefully he was listening, how much he was paying attention.

Cosmospring was quite pleased to find out that Whiteheart had been walking. That had been what he was doing too - sort of, at least. Half walking, half hunting. It was nice for Cosmospring, feeling as though perhaps he and this cat had something in common. But then again, probably not. Cosmospring certainly wasn't 'at peace with the world' - he was very far from it. He did notice the veins of red streaking in the ThunderClanner's eyes, and wondered whether he was perhaps not as 'at peace' as he claimed to be. Cosmospring knew all about hiding emotions and inner struggles - so if Whiteheart was going through something nasty, he could certainly sympathise.

"Cosmospring," he introduced himself, cringing a little as the name left his lips. 'Cosmospring' was a soft name, a name which sounded too weak, too childish. He had thought many times about changing it, to something cooler, something more threatening, but he held back every time. He didn't want to get rid of the name his parents had given him. "How's ThunderClan?" He didn't really care, but he supposed this was how a friendly conversation worked - say the most basic and boring things possible, and earn approval from others by being 'polite.'

This was the first cat Whiteheart had ever encountered that had two different eye colors. One eye was blue while the other eye was green; what a truly fascinating appearance. This would be one cat he would not be forgetting any time soon. And even though this WindClanner's eyes were different than most cats, his name was matching in the uniqueness category. Lifting an invisible brow, Whiteheart let his icy blue eyes shimmer as Cosmospring introduced himself.

"Hmm, that's a different name." he replied, thinking over how the name rolled off Cosmospring's tongue in such a rugid way. The prefix was very strange to the alabaster, but perhaps there was specific meaning towards it. Maybe he started out as a loner or kittypet like Whiteheart had? That could explain the obscure name. "But I'd say it's suiting for you! I mean, I've never encountered a cat with one blue eye and one green eye before. You could say you are a cat who covers all areas of uniqueness in yourself." he praised.

Changing the subject to the standard border question on how the clans were doing, Whiteheart released a sigh of boredom at the question. In most cases, those who asked the question did not care what the response was going to be. This question was used to be polite with their neighbors and perform a caring physique. Knowing this fact, Whiteheart was determined to answer Cosmospring's question like any other warrior would.

"ThunderClan is doing well. Prey is good and our new warriors and apprentices are proving to be great..."

Of course, Whiteheart was not "any other warrior".

"Of course, after the aggression with BloodClan, those apprentices, who have now turned into warriors, have seen what blood really looks like. Tell me, Cosmospring, have you experienced a battle yet?"

Cosmospring knew that Whiteheart probably hadn't had any bad intentions when commenting on his name and his eyes, but Cosmospring was an overly sensitive cat, deeply insecure, and immediately took it in the worst way possible. The young tabby visibly flinched as the large tom commented on his name, before taking a few steps away from the border as he spoke about his different coloured eyes.

Unique. That was an insult as much as it was a compliment. Cosmospring felt as though his name was too soft for a cat like him - he wished he had been named something cooler, with a threatening prefix and a powerful suffix. But instead, he'd been given the stupid name of Cosmospring. He felt as though it suited a medicine cat or a nursery queen much more than it suited him. The light brown warrior had considered changing his name many times, but had kept it for the sole reason of his parents. They had given him that name, that had been their decision. He couldn't change it.

Cosmospring's eyes were another feature of his that he felt insecure about. Almost every other cat had eyes of the same colour, but his eyes were different. He knew that he was just nitpicking things to dislike about himself, but he couldn't help it. The mackerel tabby just didn't really like himself that much in general.

"My name and eyes catch attention. It makes it easier for cats to remember me and to listen to me if I have memorable features." He felt as though he had to defend himself, even though Whiteheart hadn't even attacked him. Cosmospring just wanted to be normal. Normal name, normal eyes, normal parents, normal family...

He could never have any of that.

Although he had been repelled a little by Whiteheart's comments, he found himself tiptoeing closer to the border again as Whiteheart mentioned BloodClan. His brother lived there - or at least, he had. Cosmospring hadn't seen Wrathion in a long time, and anything could have happened to him by now. "Excuse me for asking, but what issues has ThunderClan been having with those pathetic BloodClanners? I hadn't heard anything about it, but I'm not surprised. Those lot are nothing but bullies." It hurt him to have to insult BloodClan, but he was at least partially telling the truth. He still couldn't believe that Wrathion had chosen to live with those cats. Either way, he hoped that by voicing a strong dislike for BloodClan, Whiteheart would feel comfortable giving him more details about BloodClan. Cosmospring knew that if he was in the other's tom position, there was no way he would have shared any information in the first place. Whiteheart was foolish for telling a cat from another Clan such information, but at the same time, Cosmospring felt a little... flattered that Whiteheart trusted him. He wondered if this cat would still be willing to trust him if he knew that his father was Nathanos, a former BloodClanner who had done many terrible things, or if he knew that Cosmospring's brother was Wrathion, a cat who may have fought against ThunderClan quite recently, harming Whiteheart's Clanmates.

Responding to the ThunderClanner's question, the slender tabby shook his head. "Not any big ones, but I'll be ready if they do come by. I did well in my training." It wasn't necessarily a lie, but it wasn't necessarily the truth, either. Cosmospring had done... okay in his training. He was an average hunter and a slightly above average fighter - certainly nothing amazing, but of course, Whiteheart didn't need to know that. The young warrior felt a brief pang of guilt. Whiteheart had told him lots of personal things, like ThunderClan's problems with BloodClan, and Cosmospring had done nothing but lie to this guy's face since the conversation had begun, first lying about failing to catch a mouse, then lying about his feelings towards BloodClan and now lying about his skill level. Cosmospring just had to remind himself that he wasn't entitled to tell anyone anything, especially not a cat from another Clan, rather than focus on how kind this cat had been to him, showing trust towards him and so on.
