Shadepaw was incredibly excited.
This task, like the task Crimsoncry had given him before, was very challenging, but unlike Crimsoncry's task, his paws tingled with exhilaration just at the thought of carrying the task out successfully.
Briarheart had told him to lead a patrol. Yup, to lead a patrol. He was just an apprentice! Shadepaw knew that he had been given a huge responsibility, especially as she had quite specifically told him to check on them after the rat situation and to offer to help them if needed. Shadepaw didn't especially want to offer help - he found it unlikely he would even be put in the situation that he had to, considering that he had met with their medicine cat apprentice recently. Honeypaw had told him that the rats had been dealt with - hopefully she had been telling the truth. The last thing he wanted to do was offer help, as nasty as it was of him to think that way. They had already worked their paws off for SkyClan's sake, and the tom was admittedly, quite selfishly sick of it.
"I'm taking a patrol to SkyClan!" he came to the centre of the camp and let out a yowl, immediately feeling a thrill rush through his body. Was this what being a warrior felt like? If so, he loved it! "We should check on them after everything that's happened with the rats." He hoped nobody disapproved of him leading the patrol - he was young, and not quite as responsible as perhaps Briarheart thought he was, but he was determined to do his best and to impress his Clanmates.
"that's just what gangsters do."
