Lilypetal giggled quietly, satisifed at her apprentice's compliment, before focusing on her to hear whatever she had to say about her brother. It wasn't much, but honestly, it just made the pretty molly even more concerned. How had Brindlepaw only seen him once? Where was he? She opened her jaws to ask a question, but shut them again as Brindlepaw asked another question of her own.

"Yeah, three sisters and one brother. One of my sisters, Brightshine, is our deputy!" The cream point answered, unable to keep a smile off of her face as she thought about her siblings. She loved all of them - they filled her with joy, and she couldn't imagine life without them. And yet Brindlepaw for whatever reason was without her brother, and that broke Lilypetal's heart. How could she even manage without him? Lilypetal knew that she would surely fail to survive without her siblings by her side.

Hesitantly, she touched the tip of her tail to Brindlepaw's shoulder. She understood that her apprentice wanted to gloss over the topic of her brother, but Lilypetal was worried about the young she cat, and would press further, as it seemed that she needed to. "But... where is your brother?" there was genuine confusion in the warrior's voice. "How have you only seen him once?" Perhaps Lilypetal was being insensitive, but whatever. She wanted to know.

    "Listen to me..."

  • Brindlepaw felt a flash of jealously, the deputy? Brindlepaw had few kin, and the one she knew she tried her hardest to keep a distant memory, she couldn't believe how lucky Lilypetal had gotten. Brindlepaw opened her mouth to say something, but quickly remember that she needed to stop talking. She was awful at keeping her mouth shut, but everything her mentor said was practically begging her to open her muzzle. Instead, she replied with a simple "Wow!" And tried to speed up, the sooner they got to camp the better.

But she quickly stopped in her tracks, Lilypetals tail rested gently on her shoulder for a minute as if to say this isn't over. Brindlepaw ducked her head, trying to avoid eye contact to make it easier "He's dead" the lie rolled off her tongue and stopped the forest around her. She hated lying, and it made it much harder that she actually respected the cat she was lying to.

    "He's dead."

A shiver ran down Lilypetal's spine. She was no stranger to death - Clan cats quickly grew accustomed to it. She herself had lost her father, and she understood the grief that Brindlepaw probably felt, even to this day.

"I'm sorry..." she answered, her tone sympathetic, her blue eyes soft and melacholic as she gazed down at her apprentice. "That must be hard for you. I... lost my dad too, so I understand what it's like to lose kin." If she had known that Brindlepaw was lying, she likely would have been angry, especially as she had mentioned the, very real, death of her father in an attempt to console the young she cat. But she wasn't aware, and all she saw was a vulnerable apprentice talking about her brother's death. She cared about Brindlepaw already, and she hated the thought of her being upset. Lilypetal hoped that she could make her feel at least a little better.

    "Listen to me..."

  • Brindlepaw was about to cry, not for imaginary loss of her brother, but because she had tricked her mentor into revealing something so personal. She couldn't bring herself to look Lilypetal in the eyes, instead she just nodded solemnly and continued back to camp. This day was a failure in her eyes, started out so well and then tumbled into darkness.

Trying to ignore the grim mood she seemed to bring with her, Brindlepaw entered the camp and sprinted to the mouth of the apprentices den, taking a moment to try and calm down before facing her mentor again. She emerge finally and looked at Lilypetal with a somewhat pained expression "So, whats next"

Brindlepaw seemed upset, though Lilypetal assumed it was because she had spoken about her brother's death. The warrior felt a pang of guilt. Perhaps she shouldn't have pressed her apprentice to talk about her brother, perhaps she shouldn't have been so nosy.

Placing her paw on Brindlepaw's shoulder, the cream point answered, "Well, training is over, so you have some free time," she continued, "You can eat now, if you like. The kits, queens and elders have been fed, and as long as they've been fed, you can eat," the slender molly nodded towards the freshkill pile, her mouth watering at the sight of a huge rabbit. "I can eat with you, if you'd like."

    "Listen to me..."

  • BRINDLEPAW

WE'LL MEET AGAIN, DON'T KNOW WHERE, DON'T KNOW WHEN

Brindlepaw allowed a smile to creep onto her face, "That would be great!" she replied cheerfully, following her mentors gaze to a rather large rabbit on the top of the fresh kill pile. Trotting over Brindlepaw quickly snatched the rabbit before anyone else could get the chance, and padded to where Lilypetal stood. "Its big enough for the both of us!"

(((Could we do a timeskip? also sorry this one is so short

Lilypetal beamed as Brindlepaw picked out the rabbit that she had been eying. "Looks deeeeeelicious!" the creamy furred warrior purred, sitting down and curling her tail neatly around her front paws. She wanted nothing more than to sink her teeth straight into the rabbit and to take a huge bite, but she supposed she had better be nice to her apprentice. Ignoring her mind screaming at her to take a bite, the slender feline turned to Brindlepaw. "You can have the first bite!" She encouraged her, her blue eyes then flicking back to the rabbit, licking her lips just at the sight of the huge meal.

//it's ok! And sure, when should we timeskip to?

  • BRINDLEPAW

WE'LL MEET AGAIN, DON'T KNOW WHERE, DON'T KNOW WHEN

Brindlepaw smiled at Lilypetals delighted response, hopefully, this meal would lift her spirits. Settling down beside her, Brindlepaw timidly tore a piece straight from the rabbit's hind leg."Holy starclan, this tastes amazing" Brindlepaw mewed through a mouthful. Biting down with a little more vigor, she realized just how stressful this day had truly been, and how nice it was to settle down with another cat and share a meal.

Share a meal, this concept was entirely new to Brindlepaw. She didn't have any friends and tended to scare off any cats who even tried to chat. In the back of her head, she knew she was harming herself socially, but in the moment it protected her, saved her from the potential of getting hurt.

(((I was thinking we could just timeskip to tomorrow morning?

    //sounds good!

It was the following morning, the day after Lilypetal's first training session with Brindlepaw. It had gone pretty well, she seemed to be quite an interesting individual and she wasn't too much of a pawful. Lilypetal already felt a bond with the young cat - she liked Brindlepaw, and she felt quite protective towards her as she had opened up to Lilypetal about her dead brother.

As she had done the morning before, the cream point trotted over to where Brindlepaw lay asleep, nudging her and chirping cheerfully, "Tiiiiime for training!" Today she planned on teaching Brindlepaw how to hunt - she was quite worried as she wasn't a great hunter, though at least she was decent. Fighting would certainly be the biggest problem - Lilypetal was terrible at that, though she would face such a problem when it came.
