  • —— FLAXENSUN ——

    Soon to be King

It annoyed him that Fire had asked him to keep his cool. Sure he was prone to having a bad temper, and sure he....literally killed a guy...(the taste of blood surfaced yet again on his tongue) but he was certain he'd shown Firedawn that he was capable of a lot more patience than she might think. Of course, it was hard to argue that point as he sat there in fourtrees, impatiently tapping his paws and glaring in the direction of shadowclan's camp with a look that could burn the foliage around him. Honestly, he wished he had the option to be mad. He wished he was morally in his rights to grab Valerianfire by the throat and tear him to shreds for touching his mate. He wished this situation was so easy that he could demand Valerian have nothing to do with the children, that he leave Firedawn alone and never approach either of them ever again.

But the fact of the matter was- Valerianfire really didn't do anything wrong.

He was just...there at the right time - a time that Flaxensun never should've opened up but he had and now this happened and now he'd be forced to play nice and share his family and his mate. It pissed him off that he couldn't be angry at Valerianfire.

It pissed him off that he was simply envious of the guy.

With the promise to stay cool and calm, Flaxensun waited for Firedawn to arrive with the red and cream tabby in toe. Firedawn's belly bump hadn't shown itself yet, but before they could announce it to the clan they needed to get everything settled first and foremost.

    Firedawn~   .valerianfire.

    Firedawn, Warrior of Shadowclan

Although the baby bump had not yet shown itself, the nausea and sudden fatigue certainly had. Firedawn had been careful to keep such things hidden from her clanmates however, not wanting to give anything away until the time was right for them all to announce the news together.

    Together. The three of them.

Firedawn would sigh heavily at the complicated mess she had gotten the two toms in, and the familiar feelings of guilt would begin to stew in her stomach as she hurried towards their meeting place. Seeing Flaxensun sitting there made her smile, and she would trot up to him and nuzzle him sweetly in greeting before taking a faithful seat beside him. Her emerald gaze still looked concerned however, as they waited for Valerianfire together. "Starclan...how is the clan going to take this news?..." She hadn't been aware that she had spoken outloud, her gaze distant in worry.

  • The pointed tom dared not to cross the path of Flaxensun until the time was right. Now, apparently was said time. The three of them had to discuss this. The possibility of the queen having a litter sired by the two of them. It made him sick, but these kits had to grow up happy and Valerianfire knew that meant attempting to get along with Firedawn's hostile mate. Soft pawsteps led him to where the two mates were gathered. His emerald gaze was lackluster, proof that he had rarely slept since Firedawn had revealed the truth to him. Firedawn and he were friends and that was the way it was meant to be. How it was always meant to be.

Valerianfire finally appeared before them. His ears were flat as he approached, his tail hung low to the ground. Flaxensun was obviously angry and knew this would be difficult to manage, but it would be something they would have to do. He wanted to claim the kits as his, but knew the clan would think poorly of Firedawn. Part of him had no clue what to do, what to think. All that he knew was that this was a decision to be made by the three of them. "Whatever you decide, I shall support it. If you wish to claim the kits as Flaxensun's, I have no issue with it. If you wish to tell the clan that it could be either of us, the same applies. I would just like to be a part of their lives. That's all."

As Valerianfire finally appeared, Firedawn would give him a small smile of hello. But as he spoke, the red Somali would flatten her ears gently in thoughtfulness. "I do not want to lie to Shadowclan. They deserve better then that." Her tail would flick behind her as she looked at them both, her expression saddened yet strong as she spoke, "We don't know who the true father is of this litter...and I am the only one to blame for that. I will tell the clan the truth, and allow them to think of me what they will. But I will NOT allow this pregnancy to drag both of your reputations through the mud." It was her fault after all, that they were in this whole mess. Her tail would move to brush against her belly, not yet swollen but still growing all the same, "I also want to make something very clear. These kits, will have a harder time with this life then either of you. As co parents, we will have to assure them that they were not mistakes. They were not an accident. And how loved they are. And in that regard I could not thank Starclan enough to have you both." Her emerald gaze would move over both of their faces for a moment before turning to Flaxensun, "Are there any concerns you have?..."

  • —— FLAXENSUN ——

    Soon to be King

Every little irrelivent thing annoyed him. The way Firedawn was so worried, the way Valerianfire looked so meek, him saying he wants to be in their lives, Firedawn then blaming herself and everyone stressing about the clan's reactions. His fur practically crackled with sparks as more and more frustration built up- but there was absolutely nothing and no one he could take it out on. Instead, his job was to comfort - in a time where he just wanted someone else to hurt, he had to instead heal.

    Starclan, this sucks!

Grinding his teeth as he listened to the two talk, he waited until he knew he wasn't about to start screaming before he says, "Both of you are stressing me out" it comes out as a snap, and his tail pulls away from Firedawn's to lash out his annoyance. Glaring at both of them, he says lowly, "Shadowclan won't care, they love you both too much to judge you. If they ask we'll tell them the truth - you two were a one-night stand " he stares hard at Valerianfire, making sure his competition understands that fact, " when you both were convinced I was dead and gone. It's not cheating" he stares hard at Firedawn, making sure SHE understands that, "nothing about this is taboo. These kits are not a mistake" half of them anyway. He brushes a paw over his face, sighing out his frustrations, "We'll all be fine parents. We'll tell the kits the truth as soon as they ask - they all were a product of love" his tail lashes furiously at his own words, "so we'll all play nice and stand beside you when you tell the clan." He looks at Firedawn and re twines his tail with hers, knowing she could use the support now and when that time comes.

In a better mood, he looks over at Valerianfire. "What I said before still counts - it wasn't cheating. You didn't do anything wrong Valerianfire so don't look so scared, I'm not about to bite your ear off"

Then, just as fast as it disappears the anger reignites and fills his amber hues with a burning, barely restrained hatred. His family, tainted. His faith shaken and his dream forced to be shared. He hates this situation. He hates himself. Right when things were starting to get better- right when he managed to crawl his way out of hell - and he's forced to deal with the fact that it's no one's fault but his own.

With that anger fueling his thoughts, Flaxenglare announces,

"You're not naming a single one of these kits." he hadn't discussed this with Firedawn, but he didn't care if she might disagree - he's not changing his mind, "Even if one looks exactly like you and it's clear who the father is, I don't care. You're lucky enough to be considered a father, " a warning - a threat- fills his eyes. As long as Firedawn is the one to bear these children, they are all going to be Flaxensun's. Valerianfire will have no say in that matter.

    "Speech"

  • Flaxensun spoke and that was when Valerianfire had enough. The feline let out a hiss and spoke for what he believed to be the final time. "If I have no say in what my kits will be named, then I want no part. Not only that, but as I told Firedawn, if you did not treat me with respect, I wanted no part of this. So, feel free to have this family as yours. Both of you." He turned away from them both, a broken look on his face. His heart broken once more. Like he had told Firedawn, he wanted to be a part of this. However, when the brown tabby stated that he would have no say, he snapped. The part of him willing to make things work...it had extinguished. "I'm done."

  • But we're a million worlds apart....

    Firedawn, Warrior of Shadowclan

Firedawn would remain silent. Staring down at her paws even as Flaxensun made his decree about the naming of the kits. And as the hiss left Valerianfires' mouth, her ears would flatten in utter defeat as she listened to his heated words. She had been so hopeful, so pure, STUPIDLY hopeful that things would work out for their complicated family. but she should have known better. She shouldn't have been so pathetic to think that things would work themselves out.

    I'm done.

Something about those words would suddenly make Firedawn very, VERY tired and she would finally lift her head to stare deeply into the ginger tabbys' eyes as she meowed weakly, "If that is what you want for your kits...then so be it." She would remove her tail from Flaxensuns, much like he had done prior, before turning and walking away from them both.

She needed air. She needed to think.

    She needed peace.

But she would never have peace again, and she would have to live with that. She knew that Flaxensun was only trying to desperately hold onto what was his. She knew he hadn't meant to cause so much trouble. Or....maybe he had? The thought made her chest hurt even more and it was suddenly becoming hard to breath. She would lean against a tree, panting in stress as tears began to freely flow from her eyes. Flaxensun could speak words all he wanted. Could tell her for a million years that this wasn't her fault. The she hadn't cheated in the technical sense. But she wasn't stupid. She knew he was lying. She knew she had hurt him in more ways then she ever thought possible, so everything that was happening now, she deserved. Her tail would wrap around her self in her grief, her mind trying to make sense in a world that no longer seemed right.

  • —— FLAXENSUN ——

    Soon to be King

Flaxen's intentions hadn't been to drive the tom off, simply to make it clear that Flaxenglare wasn't sharing ALL paternal rights. He couldn't help but sneer as Valerianfire threw a fit about it, renouncing his kits without hesitation - wow, what a dad! He opened his mouth to scoff, when Firedawn suddenly got up.

He watched her ears droop, her eyes grow so awfully dark. Suddenly, his reason for being upset shifted.

Suddenly, Flaxenglare had a reason to be angry.

Maybe it might've been a noble reason, but the quickness Flax jumped to satisfy this anger was anything but. "Firedawn-" he begins, but then shifts his gaze on the retreating Valerianfire.

Gritting his teeth, the dark tabby runs forward, running to block Val's path before he can escape. "What is your problem?" he spits furiously, tail lashing, "You wanted to be part of these kit's lives, no part of that said anything about names. Now you don't get one little thing and suddenly you want to abandon Firedawn?" he bares his teeth, "don't be a coward. You wanted respect and I gave it to you, but respect is a two way street. " He kept his voice low, as calm as one could be when Val had made firedawn cry, "The kits won't even know who gave them their names, so what's the big deal? How will not naming them change anything about your relationship?" he wants to throw insults, instigate a fight, but it's here Flaxen remembers this isn't entirely about him. His eyes fall to Firedawn, then he refocuses on Valerianfire.

"Firedawn needs -" he swallows thickly, so badly does he want to go back on just being mad, drive Valerian far, far away and figure this mess out between just him and Firedawn, but he knows if he does that it'll hurt his mate beyond anything. "She needs you in this."

    "Speech"

  • "It's not just that, Flaxensun." He hissed as the tom blocked his path. "You stole my happiness. I was happy for a brief moment. Firedawn had made me happy. Your return...it broke that. I respected you, but staying away. Doing everything I could to respect your boundaries and hers. I've given you all nothing but respect. Yet, here you are threatening me and taking away a chance for me to have any say in their lives! You call me a coward. Maybe I am. Just because I'm tired of fighting. I'm tired of being the bad guy in everyone's story. So, yes. I'm done because I want small things. I want these kits to see a happy parents smiling down at them, giving them the hope that life isn't terrible. That it can be joyful, amazing."

He unsheathed his claws and ducked his head, a single tear streaming down his cheek. "If that removes me from the picture, then so be it. I just want what is best for them. For Firedawn. For everyone else. I don't care if it ends up breaking my heart into a thousand pieces. Fighting for my place in these kits' lives harms her. It harms them. If that means that I have to walk away from this in order to make peace, I will. She doesn't need me in this. She needs her mate to be happy. That's what she needs. She needs these kits to be happy. That's what she needs."

Valerianfire finished speaking and sheathed his claws, the tears trailing down his flame-hued fur. He padded past the tom, not daring to say anything else. "If you are willing to give me the respect and at least let me have a say in things, then I will stay..." For now.

  • —— FLAXENSUN ——

    Soon to be King

Flaxenglare's fur bristled more and more as Valerianfire spoke. Flaxensun had stolen HIS happiness? He never had a right to that joy in the first place! If anything, Valerianfire was stealing Flaxen's! Flaxenglare had worked moons on his relationship with Firedawn, on open communication and love - all Valerian did was give her a shoulder to cry on! "When have I threatened you!?" Flaxenglare splutters, incredulous.

Then he goes on to explain his wants, and it makes Flaxenglare laugh, "That's what everyone wants - and you are the one messing that up" He stares at Valerianfire in complete confusion. Was...was he deaf? "Valerianfire, the whole point of this meeting was to get ourselves situated as co-parents. These kits need you in their lives - and you owe it to them and Firedawn to stay" he can't believe this - this awful situation he's in. It's one thing to be forced to co-parent, and it's an entire other to be the one to argue for his competition to stay a part of it. He feels like he's losing his mind!

Mind and heart battle one another as he barrs Valerian's path again. "You wanna play the pity party game? Fine, lets play the game. She's MY MATE you insensitive jerk! the love of my love wrote me off as dead and moons of working on our relationship boiled down to her tripping on your paws and bearing you a damned litter! I'm so sorry I didn't die, that I took what was supposed to be mine and mine alone" baring his teeth, he shoves his face into Valerianfire's, "But unlike you, I'm not allowed to be sad or angry about this mess because I know whatever pain I'm feeling - whatever dung you're going though - Firedawn is going through it and triple. So man up Valerianfire because the only thing that makes you a bad guy in this situation is if you abandon a family you created " He glares at the tom, "all I ask for in this mess is one thing - rights to naming a litter that should've been mine in the first place. After that, you have plenty of free reign in whatever happens with these kits - hell, suggest their warrior names to the leader if you want, I don't care"

He leans in close, making sure Val can meet his amber eyes glare, "You took away my happiness too, Valerianfire. You're taking it right now, in fact. The least you can do is let me have this one thing. The least you can do for Firedawn is to put aside your angst and be the father she's allowing you to be. So be there for her"

    "Speech"

  • He wanted to dig his claws into Flaxensun's face to stop him from yelling at him, berating him and creating more tension between them. However, Valerianfire just remained silent. "Fine. Name them whatever you want. Because that is so important to you. That's not giving me a say in anything but whatever. I give up." He decided in that moment that he couldn't find it in his heart to care anymore. "You win her and the kits." The red tabby decided that it was time to end this. "I will stay, but only for her and these kits. If you ever decide to speak to me like this again, that will change in a heartbeat. I'm ending this discussion now." This time, he sprinted off and disappeared into the night.

He watches the tom go, burning with irritation. He doesn’t get one little thing and suddenly it’s the end of the world- Flaxenglare doesn’t understand what Firedawn saw in that ungrateful man. None of this had to escalate had Valerianfire understood he wasn’t the only one hurting here. He spits on the ground, unresolved anger poisoning him from the inside out. But he can’t run off or mope like the others- Firedawn is hurting and he needs to help her. Smoothing down his bristled hairs, the man takes a breath and makes his way after his mate. He doesn’t really care if Valerian ever speaks to him again- maybe someday in the future they could be mature and talk it out- but as long as Val does what he can for Fire’s sake then that’s all Flax needs.

    //end ? ;w;
