  • NETTLEKIT

        - Nettlekit’s head snapped up from an evening nap. His eyes shot open, distant coughing echoing in his ears. Whatever crazy dream he might’ve been having, he had no clue what it could’ve been about. And the coughs continued at an alarming rate. He got up from his spot besides the medicine cat den and peeked into the small cavern. An NPC was laying in the front, coughing up red liquid hoarsely, gasping for breath. The kit’s eyes widened, ears flattening against his skull. He couldn’t help but stand there and watch, fur bristling, as the cat kept convulsing and finally stopped, relieved from its suffering.

The kit stepped back in horror, and turned around to run into the safety of the nursery. Death, he didn’t want to feel it, smell it, know it’s there at his neck chasing him. He didn’t want to focus on the fact that one day it would catch him too. He breathed heavily, curling up into a small ball in his nest. He knew that medicine cats had to deal with that- but Spiderpaw was injured and Owlgaze had his paws full, how would they ever be able to take care of all of the clan now if leafbare? Oakridge was injured, Briarheart was injured, that scary big white guy as well?

His mind was filling up with the information at an alarming rate and despite sunsteps already passing by, he couldn’t sleep even when everything has gone quiet, knowing that cat was gone, and that many others would be if something didn’t change. He has been observing the herbs the last few days, as he did anytime he had time, fox-dung he’s been obsessed with learning them ever since he came, and he was startled by the shortening storage. What if Briarheart got sick? What if Lilykit got sick? Anyone else he knew? Blossomkit? Smolderingpaw? He couldn’t sleep, he couldn’t rest knowing they were in such danger. He couldn’t lose someone else now, he couldn’t let it happen. He had to do something.

A few sunsteps after the night swallowed everything in darkness, the mute tom sticked his head out and quietly walked over to Blossomkit laying just besides him. He grabbed her by a tuft of fur, attempting to shake her, and without waiting for a response jumped over to his mottled friend to try and do the same. They had to do something. He glanced around at the both of them and quickly pointed his tail at the entrance. He sure hoped they would understand they had to be about as quiet as he was.

Blossomkit let out a hiss as she felt someone shake her, and she turned around, glaring at her brother, a hint of fear in her blue eyes, though she quickly relaxed when she realised it was Nettlekit. The molly rose to her paws, taking a few moments to smooth her silky fur, making sure it hadn't been messed up in any way thanks to her brother shaking her.

Nettlekit had gestured towards the entrance. He wants to leave? Blossomkit wasn't entirely sure what was going on, and admittedly, something about her brother seemed... urgent. It made her quite nervous, though she refused to let that show. She started to sneak towards the entrance, glad that her small paws made no noise on the ground. Upon reaching the entrance, she then slipped out, still silent.

Lilykit felt something moving her around. In a panic, she opened her eyes to see a kit standing over her. She squinted to make out Nettlekit in the dark who was standing over her and Blossomkit, urgently willing them to leave. Her heart slowed down a little as she realized that the camp wasn't under attack or that she wasn't being carried off by some wild animal. Letting out a quiet sigh of relief, she nodded and got on her paws.

Nettlekit seemed to motion towards the outside of camp. Her heart quickened again and fear took over her. What if she died out there? Worse, what if Blossomkit or Nettlekit died out there? She didn't want that to happen. She stood at the entrance, frozen and panic stricken as she saw Blossomkit leave. There were dangers out there that kits are not equipped to face. The camp was safer. As feeling started to return to her body, she saw Nettlekit's urgent look. She knew that sneaking out was important to him so she decided, against her own judgment, that she would help her friend. Taking a deep breath, she quickly left camp. She trusted her fellow denmates but she didn't trust that the outside world would be safe for a group wandering kits.

  • NETTLEKIT

        - He watched the two start following him with questioning looks on their faces, hesitance visible in their postures. He picked up a small herb that was for some reason laying around. Unusable, old, dried up. He then walked outside quicker and for the first time he was finally outside. He looked up at the black sky and moon shining down on them, although it seemed there would not be much time left before sunrise. He sniffed the ground and then glanced back at his friend, hoping they’d understand. That was his plan. Lilykit knows some herbs, she can tell Blossomkit what she should be searching for. All he needed was for them to understand his gestures. Them it would work. Hopefully. They would do this, right? They were friends. They’d manage. Afterall, they were doing this for the clan.

Blossomkit didn't feel as though this was especially right - she didn't exactly get the Clan's rules, but she was pretty sure they weren't meant to be doing this. Deep down, nerves clawed furiously at her stomach, but she pushed them away. She couldn't be scared - she was a Clan cat now.

She watched as her brother picked up a herb, and then went on to sniff at the ground. She understood - they needed to collect herbs. But Blossomkit really didn't know any. That made things a little awkward - she didn't want to admit that she knew so little about herbs, but how could she lie?

"What herbs are we looking for, exactly?" The molly mewed quietly, keeping her voice neutral as to not betray her true emotions. She wasn't the same crying drama queen who had showed up in DarkClan's territory less than a moon ago. She could never be like that - never again.

Lilykit quickly glared at Nettlekit for putting her in this situation. She was gonna have to talk. Sighing, she decided that this would be good for her and forgave her friend. She took a look at the herb and sniffed it. She had seen it in the medicine den before. She had heard someone mention that it cured fevers, making it an important herb for leaf-bare. Blinking a few time, she began to remember the name of it. "U-um I think t-this is um..., f-feverfew. W-we should head t-to t-the f-fields I heard t-they grow um, there. J-just l-look for something l-like t-this, um.., and um, something t-that smells like t-this." She took a deep breath as she finished. It took a while for her to get out but she did it.
