  • Webpaw lay curled at the base of a tree, one of the two that bordered the camp. It was where she pretty much always was, finding the rest of camp a bit too crowded. Her dilated looking periwinkle eyes were open, watching not the cats around her but the sky.

There was always something up with Webpaw. She was seemingly disconnected from the rest of the clan, and didn’t interact with others much. In fact, she never went out of her way to unless it was needed. But ‘needed’ was just a loose term that meant nothing. She was never with other cats. She stayed out of the apprentice den whenever she could, finding all of the company too much.

Some may say that she was just shy. However if you actually got to know her.... You’d see it to be more than that. She seemed unfocused all the time, it fitting with her foggy eyes. She rarely talked, but when she did, she was quiet. There was quite obviously something off about Webpaw. And everyone knew it.

// .Ruby.   .Mottlewish. Not sure which one to put here so I just put both. Hope that’s okay!

  • MOTTLEWISH

    the tales untold

During the few days Mottlewish spent in the camp, she already managed to notice there was a wide array of cats, all completely different in personality. That is, of course, what a clan should look like. No way to be a clan cat was necessarily wrong, some just needed tweaking, and what could a past kittypet say about that?

The soft queen noticed that one of the apprentices was, once again, doing her thing, sitting on a tree like a bird and watching the sky. She liked that too. It was a nice way to remember all of the people she used to talk with sitting on a tree and watching the clouds or stars or sunset or sunrise. There were a lot of interesting things about the sky.

The young cat also seemed to be in her own world most of the time, and as long as that was fine, Mottlewish would at least want to get to know her this time. The otherwise physically impossible cat ran up the tree, placing one claw above the other, going the perfect speed so she didn’t feel her weight that much, and then thrusted herself atop the branch Webpaw was sitting on.

Hey there, Webpaw. How are you doing? Or more specifically, what?” She never got to be an apprentice, so she’d also want to ask about that.

  • Webpaw blinked and shook her head a bit, caught off guard by the older she-cat approaching her. She tilted her head a bit and then lay it back down onto the branch. However she kept her cloudless periwinkle eyes on Mottlewish.

She’d never actually interacted with the she-cat, which was expected because.... This was Webpaw we were talking about. So to be brief, she wasn’t expecting Mottlewish to actually know her name. Maybe she’d heard it from some other apprentice...

Webpaw cleared her mind and stayed with her eyes on the sky. When she spoke it was more of a murmur, a bit hard to hear. “Fine... And just, thinking.”

  • MOTTLEWISH

    the tales untold

Just thinking... what was that about? Her brown eyes narrowed as she waved her tail from side to side, thinking of a way to continue the conversation. She wasn't exactly the type of cat to stay quiet, and if she wanted to get to know Webpaw better, the apprentice maybe wouldn't mind a few minutes of less-than-brief interaction. If she spent all her time thinking, maybe taking a break from her thoughts from time to time could be nice. Being thoughtful and quiet paid off sometimes though, as you were less likely to hurt someone with your words or do something stupid. Which was definitely something Mottlewish stumbled upon a lot in her life.

"That's nice. Is your apprenticeship going well so far?"

She had a bit of an idea how it worked, although she didn't know if they had trials like back in DarkClan. Must've been diffictult and certainly exhausting, but she regretted not having at least basic training as she was completely helpless in a fight or on a patrol. Maybe like a messanger she could be useful, formal talk or being nice to people were quite easy things for her, and caring about kits also worked well with her character.

But trying to be a warrior without proper training brought her nothing but pain, and although it wasn't necessarily her fault, she hoped the apprentices knew how important it was for them to find a good place in the world.

  • Webpaw was silent a moment. She really wasnt used to any interaction whatsoever. And despite what anyone else thought.... She was glad. It was loud and complicated enough in her own head, why would she want to deal with others? She listened as Mottlewish spoke. That’s.... Nice? She wasn’t exactly lying when she said she was thinking, but still. That was... Somehow nice. Okay then.

When the molly asked about her apprenticeship she was silent a moment, sort of considering. She wasn’t doing particularly wellbut she wasn’t doing bad either. The only real problem was her not really willing to speak to her mentor when not training with them. She’d been okay at hunting, fast at fighting when she was forced to focus, and actually pretty good with climbing. U-Uhm, fine. It’s been okay.”

  • MOTTLEWISH

    the tales untold

So the classical fine-okaying, huh? Well, Mottle didn't mind having that conversation, although they were always a bit more interesting with cats that were more... she didn't know, passionate? Even with the ones who thought killing other cats was okay, the ones who thought only clan cats could be good warriors- it was always nice to see others' point of view, despite them being so different.

"Great! I am happy it is going well." She gave up trying to get into eye contact, which didn't make her salty, she was just automatically expecting it, and stared of into the skies as well. "Ever think about how different life would be if you didn't make certain choices or mistakes? I mean, you are quite young and born in a clan, so the path was probably laid out in front of you, but I made a lot of terrible mistakes and cruical decisions during my life, and keep looking back at what could've been. Do you think that's wrong?"

  • Webpaw blinks as she hears Mottlewish speak. She wasn’t expecting that. The apprentice was fine with, and sometimes enjoyed, more deep conversation topics. It made it easier for her to understand the cat she was speaking with. There was also that she felt she could be just a bit more open.

She was silent a moment, thinking. When she finally spoke her voice was just a bit more clear, showing her voice to be a bit silvery. “I... I think about that a lot too. And it’s not wrong. I think.... I know this will probably sound cliche but... I believe that whenever we make a mistake or a decision something good happens from it. Think... Was there ever a time you made a decision you weren’t sure about? Try to think of something positive that came from it. That’s how I back up my options. I know that once a decision has been made, you have to go on and make choices from there.”

  • MOTTLEWISH

    the tales untold

Mottlewish waited as the apprentice stayed quiet for a bit. Maybe she crossed a line or touched on a sensitive topic?

Luckily, no. It seemed like she has made the right choice even if she hasn't been sure about it. She was happy she found the sweet spot, she didn't want to get too preachy. It wasn't bad, the apprentice teaching her something. She still had ways to change, to improve, and was fully aware of it.

"Well," she swished hee bushy tail, "back when I ran away from my twolegs into the wilderness to save my kits. Back then I wasn't sure if I did the right thing. In fact, I had no idea what in StarClan I was doing. But I'm incredibly happy I did it and met all of my new friends and made so many amazing memories... also saved my kits and hence, my grandchildren such as Chercoalpaw or Lavenderpaw were born. I wouldn't have traded this life for anything else. What about you?"

  • Webpaw stayed silent and listened as the older molly spoke. If Webpaw has been in the same situation, she would no doubt do the same. Even if she didn’t show it, she really liked being part of a clan and feeling part of something greater. She just wasn’t sure about everything with kits. She wasn’t one to be into that sort of thing, or romance or mates in that matter.

She thought about what Mottlewish said and blinked her eyes at the question. “U-Uhm, what about me? I.... I don’t know.” Although she said that, it wasn’t true. She did know, somewhat. She didn’t like being so disconnected, and her thoughts being so pessimistic and overlapping. But.... She was afraid of what another life could hold. She was afraid to think of the other possibilities that could happen.

She was happy for the older molly, truly. Mottlewish had made a decision that she was unsure about. But in the end she could look back on it and say she was happy it happened. Webpaw couldnt imagine herself being that way. But who knew what the future held?

  • MOTTLEWISH

    the tales untold

Mottlewish blinked, sensing a bit more behind the words but not saying anything. She understood when someone wanted their thoughts to be private, and she'd never want to disturb that privacy.

"You're very thoughtful, Webpaw. That can be helpful when choosing a path for yourself. Maybe this time more about the future, what do you think could become of you? I personally have a half of my life behind me, but still there might be some big changes coming, even now. What do you think, would you make a good leader? Medicine cat? Will you be the best hunter or will you move to another clan, for example RiverClan, because you can swim well?"

  • Webpaw listened as the older Molly spoke, actually enjoying the interaction that she seldom got. She didn’t exactly think of herself to be thoughtful, she just said what she thought. And she thought about a lot of things. There were really a lot of things to think about.

When Mottlewish asked about what she believed she could become, she sat up a bit and shifted her paws a bit. She honestly had no clue. Was that a bad thing? She really didn’t know. She’d had a mentor for a few moons but really nothing had happened.

She didn’t have any talents really. She was just... Ordinary. Or at least that’s what other cats would call her. Webpaw instead found herself to be just strange. Everyone else in the clan seemed to have their own talents and things they were recognized for. But Webpaw? She couldn’t find herself to have anything of the sort. She stayed silent, just thinking.

  • MOTTLEWISH

    the tales untold

Webpaw stayed quiet, and Mottlewish nervously shifted on the branch. "Hey- it's alright if you don't know yet. You're quite young. Maybe it'll come to you later in life, when you find out more about yourself. Who knows what the future holds? You have many possibilities, at least they aren't forcing you to take on a path. I won't go into detail but I was literally born- bred- to be an exposition cat, so my view was quite limited just a while ago. And things change during life, just like I came to the clan just recently. There's nothing wrong with that." She swished her tail from side to side, smiling encouragingly.

  • Webpaw nodded, laying curled again and looking up to the sky. The sun was beginning to set, and the stars were coming out as was the moon. She watched as the colors faded into nightfall.

Mottlewish was nice, different from the other cats in the clan. Maybe Webpaw wasnt so bad st this interacting thing after all. The apprentice’s tail flicked against the bark as she simply thought.

She wasn’t used to doing that with anyone else near by, but it wasn’t hard to just forget that the warrior was there. Well, she didn’t forget. She kind of just faded the molly from her vision and focused on something else.
