  • In a few more weeks, the scabs on his legs would fade to scars, permanent imprints of Overlord's teeth marking his flesh. In a few more weeks, the lacerations and abrasions littering his pelt would stop snatching his attention each morning, reminding him of the battle he'd lost and the duty he'd failed. In a few more weeks, the fragile bones in his wings would mend and he'd be able to return to the sky.

Standing by the far edge of the main isle, the transvaal lion peered past the island's perimeter to the great drop beneath. The ground was distant, as indistinct as the hazy sky around him. Michael was, suddenly, filled with the ridiculous urge to jump and see if his broken wings would catch him. To jump and see if he could leave, just as he'd promised Gabriel. His uninjured wing rose to flap feebly and he teetered, leaning just too far out. To fly again. To regain his strength and return to his former self, shedding this shadow version of himself as a snake sheds its skin. If only. As he surveyed the horizon, his gaze was curiously wistful.

  • in a few more weeks, michael would leave. well, that's the assumption that spirit is under, and he's forcing himself to deal with it. he and michael are at opposite ends, yet he feels close to the winged lion. something about saving his life and getting closer through a shared experience flashes through his mind, but he doesn't attempt to sort it out. the fox won't lie: he doesn't want michael to leave. he enjoys spending time with him, but he knows the other doesn't like being here in the isles. he'll let him go, with some teasing and pulling but in the end, he'll watch him fly away. and then he'll only hope to come across him again.

for now, though, he forces himself to live in the present. liquid-gold eyes land upon the lion with an intensity deep and uncertain, though the smile on his maw is confident and rivals the light of the sun. his small legs carry him in leaps and bounds until he's at michae's feet, head titled up to stare at him in a more direct manner. "what's on your mind?" spirit's voice is light, but carries the weight of someone who knows more than they let on. he turns his attention to the view, ignoring just how close to the edge they both were and how neither of them were suited to fly away from such a fall.

  • athanasius didn't know michael, and they didn't care to get to know him either. all they knew was that he was apparently related to their stubborn leader, gabriel, and that was enough to make them wary of the winged lion. perhaps it was unfair of them to judge the other based on their relation to the seraphinus family, but ana's experience with the family had never been the greatest. they'd have to forgive them for their coldness.

occasionally they would check up on michael, making sure that gabriel wasn't bothering the injured man and, in general, re-dressing and replacing bandages and salves. their relationship went no further beyond doctor and patient, and athanasius was alright with allowing it to be that way. admittedly, they had been curious of the other, however. after all, michael seemed to have more than a familial relationship in the isles.

athanasius is looking for michael when they find him... with spiritline. the four-tailed kitsune pauses near, rose - tinted eyes flickering over the couple. it seemed like they'd just began talking, but the vulpine cared naught for whatever they was speaking of... if they were speaking. and so, without a care in the world, the pale cleric would begin to approach them with that familiar blank look upon their face. they don't offer a greeting to the black fox, and instead tilted their head up towards the massive winged lion. "i was looking for you," ana murmured, feeling a flare of exasperation rise hot against their skin. they didn't mind the fact that michael was moving around; they wanted michael to stretch his legs instead of remaining cooped up in the infirmary, but they'd wished they or their apprentices had been informed before he went off.

with a quiet sigh, the pallid luxian would look over the other's bandaged frame with a practiced and steady gaze. "are you feeling alright?" of course, they meant this in relation to the bruises and cuts and the broken wing the lion sported, but they supposed michael could take it any way he desired it to.

  • ✦ ✧ ✦ Aphrodite adored Michael, and he was aware of it. She adored all of her uncles and her family in general because they would always be a part of her heart. As she approaches the group, she looks to Michael with a gentle smile displayed on her face. She doesn't want to think about Michael leaving or the fact that he might not even want to be in Hyperia. She would deal with that later, but for now, she was just happy to hvae him around. "What are you up to, uncle Michael?" She asks quietly as she bounds over to his side. She found comfort in her family the most out of everyone.

  • It was out of curiosity above all else that Gabriel joined the group gathering around his brother. Since it was clear the other wouldn't tell him who had done this, he had no choice but to stew in his anger, which for the time being was pushed to the back of his mind. The lion came to stand a short distance from the others, not adding his voice to the mix of those that had already questioned Michael, and instead waiting to hear the answer.

  • Spiritline is right; despite their differences, their shared experiences has formed a bond between them. The inky fox is the opposite of Michael in nearly every way, but as they say, opposites attract. Michael has not expected to trust anyone again (the last person he really trusted was Lucifer, and he is sure that Lucifer is the reason their father left them) but he knows he would help Spirit, should the male ever find himself in trouble - and knowing him, he will. Spiritline is as carefree as Michael is serious, and carefree is just another way of saying gets-on-everyone's-nerves-until-he-gets-hurt.

As Spirit bounds over, he pulls back from the edge as though the drop is a venomous snake. When the shorter man turns his attention to the view, Michael turns his gaze to him, pale eyes resting on Spiritline's profile. He is not usually one to complain but Spirit deserves more than a half-truth, so he carefully says, "I want to fly again."

Michael's relationship with Athanasius is far more formal than his relationship with Spiritline. He is polite to the healer, but that is it. He does not chat with them. He does not try to forge a personal connection with them. Ana is content to heal his body but leave the rest of him alone, and Michael is perfectly fine with that. Nonetheless, he feels a flash of hot irritation as kitsune interrupts. Right now, he does not need to be fussed over. "You wanted me to exercise," he reminds Ana with forced mildness. He doesn't answer their other question, instead turning his head to regard Aphrodite. Michael has never been one for mindless small-talk and he starts to say, "Not much," when Gabriel arrives.

He is still not sure what to make of Gabriel. Michael should be happy to see him again, and to see that he no longer swallows Lucifer's every word as though gold drops from the pink lion's maw, but Gabriel is not the brother who fled from him so long ago. Gabriel seems concerned about him, and although Michael is good at burning bridges, he isn't so skilled at repairing them. He finds himself holding the other's gaze silently, waiting (for once!) for him to make the first move.

  • he bobbed his head, pivoting slightly to follow michael's movements. the statement was no surprising in the slightest, and he nodded his head in understanding. "you're healing up nicely, you'll be flying in no time," he offers up with a grin. spirit definitely didn't know as much athanasius did about the lion's condition, but his wandering was evidence enough to his progress. he watches the stare-down, feeling oddly like he was intruding upon something heavy. some small part of his mind told him to let it unfold and leave it to them, but spirit was never good at following social cues, and therefore returned his attention to michael. "hey, when you can fly again, think i can get a ride?" it's half a joke, half a real request. the flying boats were fun enough, but real flying seemed way cooler, in his humble opinion.
