He was out of camp, alone once again as the desire to find more quiet places writhed inside of him. It was a longing he often felt, especially during times where the clan's energy was gloomy and full of anger. Teddy's death had struck the others as hard as Sunwish's, if not more– even the young apprentice was feeling a prickle of concern as he knew that leafbare would bring bad news and hard times. Less prey, too.
That very thought turned his attention to the faint scuffle of claws against bark. Silentpaw tried to push his worries to the back of his head, gradually dropping into a crouch as to not startle whatever creature was ahead.
His maw parted, the savory taste of a squirrel on his tongue. From what it seemed, the rodent was scrambling to the bottom of a tree– likely in search of some food to store.
Relax... take a deep breath...
The young male paused, drawing in a short, quiet inhale. Then a soft breath outwards. He could do this. He hadn't trained much with Sedge lately, but that would make his catch that much more satisfying.
But then that pesky thought of snow on the earth breached his mind, causing his tail to lash. Why did their medicine cat have to die at such an awful time? What if someone in his family got sick?
A shocked squeal pulled him out of his stupor. Right, he was hunting. Silentpaw lunged out, missing the gray squirrel but swiping just above it in order to startle it to the ground. The fuzzy creature bolted off to some bushes, disappearing from sight before he had the chance to react.
Very rarely would Silentpaw's face show his true emotions, but at this point his teeth were bared in a silent snarl. Green eyes were ablaze with frustration, yet the tom didn't hiss or usher curses to the empty space around him. Rather, his claws dug into the soil under his paws while he stalked aggressively towards the bush the squirrel had disappeared behind.
He wasn't expecting another cat to be there, however, more or less Lavenderstar herself.
