Connall smiled kindly down at the princess, knowing how she must have felt. He could remember being not much younger than her, afraid and lost, and thrown into a strange new life with wild people he knew nothing about. Though overtime, he had come to love the people, and became one of them. He would hope she would feel the same, one day. He did not want her to be unhappy, and he knew Aryan would not want that either.
Aryan was unlike his father and grandfather in many ways. One of which was the fact that he had a kinder heart, and relied more on his wits than his brute strength. He would make a good leader, over time, but the tribe needed to learn to respect him and his enemies fear him. As of now, the other tribes saw him as an easy target - a young man they could snuff out and take his people and land. This was part of the reason he was taking a mate. He needed to make sure he had a successful bloodline, and someone to share the burden of leadership with. But Connall also knew he also wished for companionship, someone to hold and keep his bed warm.
When the princess spoke again, saying his name, he cocked his head a bit to the side, as if to listen to her better. She then asked the one question he could not give an answer to, causing the older man to audibly sigh. He shook his head a bit before replying, "You will find out soon enough. But should you have more questions on the transformation, you should ask Aryan. He will be the one to change you."
At the expression on her face, he could only guess she had no idea she would become a shifter as well. Surely the thought frightened her. He couldn't blame her. It had frightened him once upon a time, but in the end, he had chosen it. She did not.
"Give Aryan a chance, my lady. I understand he is a bit... Intimidating. But he means well. He is simply trying to live up to his father's reputation, which is not an easy task. Not to mention, he has no experience with women. Ya know, since we mate for life and all. He is not disinterested, just perhaps a bit shy."
The man laughed aloud, holding his stomach as the laughter bellowed out and echoed in the dim woods. He could see the half shadow of a wolf, but it was only a glimpse, and gone before he could even blink.
"I helped raise the lad, ya know. See him as kin. I know he is a good man, and he will treat you well, should you give him the chance." Connall smiled again down at Raenessa, who was a head shorter than he was, and ultimately a delicate creature. Though she wouldn't be that way for much longer.
Dropping the smile, now serious again, Connall used his other hand to pat hers, which still held onto his bicep. "Chin up, princess. I know you are scared, I was too. But trust me when I say, we are not as savage as you have been led to believe."
