If he had it his way, Carrotkit would be able to waltz out of the confines of the camp and past the borders without any repercussions. The danger of trying to wander the tunnels or exploring the territory had been explained to him countless times, yet his desire to escape had not lessened. He didn't want to break the rules; that had never been his intention. All he wanted was the thrill of discovery and the joy of knowledge. He wanted to learn, to see what the world had to offer. Once, the camp had been able to satisfy him, but he'd since learned his way around it. There was not a cranny unvisited, a pebble left unturned. He'd seen it all, and it had become stale. He needed something new but the rules meant to govern his safety denied him that.
The last (and only) time that he'd managed to sneak away without permission had ended in his discovery. Carrotkit hadn't managed to uncover any interesting tidbits of knowledge, but his trip hadn't been a total loss. Hawkpaw had offered to entertain him. He hadn't taken the medicine cat apprentice up on his offer right away, foresight telling him not to waste the trip. His first visit to Hawkpaw was bound to be something special, and he wanted to save it for a time when he felt that he either had to run from the camp or burst.
That time had arrived. Deep red paws carried the kitten toward the medicine den, pink nose twitching as he tried to locate Hawkpaw by scent alone. Upon spotting the blind tabby, a smile broke out across his face. "Hey, Hawkpaw? Did you change your mind about hanging out?"
