"YOU ARE YOUNG AND LIFE IS LONG" -- GENERAL
Children of the Nuclear State {plot & chat}
Children of the Nuclear State {RP}
It’s 1969, and there are ships in the sky and sinkholes in the ground. In an alternate reality where the Cold War erupted into a full-scale global nuclear disaster, Russia and what remained of eastern Europe quickly claimed the ruins of post-war America. Due to the radiation phenomenon, children born during the disaster had their genetic codes altered, imbuing them with abilities which appeared almost supernatural. Some were weak and others were immensely powerful, but all were put into special zones by Russian officials in order to track their development.
Then the real disasters started occurring.
Sinkholes appeared everywhere. They were bottomless, leading who knows where, and each one was different. Regular rescue forces found exploring these sinkholes virtually impossible with the extents of modern machinery and tech. They needed something a little... out of the ordinary.
The horrific effects of the earth-shattering war and the sinkholes that followed were laid upon the backs of the children. Those kids who survived being torn from their families, the experimentation, and radiation at the labs were now trained into an elite task force called Dart, or Drotik in the native language. They lived in camps which trained them to navigate the sinkholes and rescue the people and objects they found there, and they were experienced in dealing with the mutated creatures found in the darkest recesses of the earth.
This is the story of the children of the state.
"THERE IS TIME TO KILL TODAY" -- SETTING
The main camp of Drotik is located in Los Angeles, California, now known as New Moscow. It is filled with various military resources and is a hub of activity for the government. The kids are kept carefully contained on a reserve crafted to maintain their well-being while still preserving their fighting instinct. The most dangerous kids, labeled “High Risk”, are kept quarantined, but the others live together in quarters.
The Red Giant is the biggest sinkhole currently known to exist, and it is located in what was once Fort Worth, Texas. All attempts to explore it have resulted in disaster, and so far no one has been rescued. It is unknown if the victims of the disaster are alive or dead.
Other sinkholes dot the country here and there. Michigan, South Carolina, and much of Florida have been overtaken by smaller sinkholes. Efforts to discover the source of them are still ongoing, but rescue attempts have proven successful to some degree.
"THEN ONE DAY YOU FIND" -- POWERS
On the reserve, powers are divided into “high risk” and “standard” categories. Standard powers are physical abilities, while high risk powers have a mental component to them.
For example, a standard kid may be able to conduct electricity, but a high risk kid is able to transfer memories from one person to another. Kids with high risk abilities are extremely rare and are kept quarantined.
Please try to avoid extremely powerful abilities like mind-reading or matter manipulation. If you’d like to use an ability that powerful, it would be appreciated if you could nerf your character’s powers a bit or make them more of a hassle to use. If you’ve read everything thus far, add your character’s theme song in the “Other” portion of their bio.
"TEN YEARS HAVE GOT BEHIND YOU" -- RULES
These rules aren't really set in stone, but they're general guidelines for the roleplay.
1. Be respectful OOC (duh).
2. Cursing and dark or mature themes are welcome in this roleplay.
3. Try to keep high risk kids to a minimum.
4. Each kid can only have one power.
5. If their abilities are too powerful and renders any challenges or opponents in the roleplay null, I will have to ask you to change that power to keep the RP interesting. It's no fun when the squad can easily squash any difficulties they encounter.
6. If you have any ideas which greatly alter the plot, please suggest them on the plot thread first.
7. One-liners are fine, but just please try to have decent grammar and spelling. Longer posts are encouraged but not necessary.
8. If you haven't posted in ten days, I'll give you a nudge on the chat and plot thread. If you are gone for over twenty days, we'll probably move on without your character.
9. Your character cannot start out with any real weapons while at Drotik unless they slipped them by somehow. These are labeled contraband and are immediately removed.
10. Please keep all characters under 16, with a maximum age of 18.
